    February 13th, 2013
5:00 PM | New Orleans Arena | New Orleans, LA
Trail Blazers (25-26) At Hornets (18-34)

    What To Watch For

    Team Focus
The light at the end of the tunnel is becoming more visible and not only is the six-game road trip -- Portland second longest of the year -- nearly complete but the All-Star break begins as soon as the final buzzer sounds in the Crescent City. For the Trail Blazers, they'll definitely need the five-day mini-vacation to unwind, relax, and regroup for the stretch run of the season, but they mustn't lose focus at the task in hand. While their record doesn't indicate it, the Hornets are a dangerous team and just as we saw in Orlando, no game in a sure thing. Turnovers will be key in this one and are a key sign that a team is locked in and ready to work. If the Blazers come out and take care of the ball, they should be alright. But if they look lackadaisical and come out sloppy with the basketball, it will only lead to easy New Orleans buckets. Keep the turnovers under 12 and Portland will end the trip on a high note.

    3-Point Shooting
Back on December 16th, the Trail Blazers were able to eek out a 95-94 victory over the Bugs after nearly giving away a 12-point lead after three quarters. What got NOLA back into the thick of things? Long-range shooting. As a team they shot 11-20 from downtown, led by 3-point marksmen Ryan Anderson who did the majority of the damage, going 7-10 from behind the line. Anderson's 157 3's are tops in the NBA this season and he's shooting them at over a 40% clip. It's vital that LaMarcus Aldridge and JJ Hickson stick to him closely. For the Blazers, they must get their shooters in rhythm. When they've had success this season, Wesley Matthews is locked and loaded, Nicolas Batum isn't hesitating to pull the trigger and Luke Babbitt is spreading the floor off the bench. Portland is just the 26th best team in the league from distance, only converting on 34% of their attempts. If the Blazers can shoot over 40% from downtown, that'll help them end the trip the right way.

That "light at the end of the tunnel" is what I'm reading the 'writing on the wall' by.  Minutes and effort were both at exhaustive levels in South Beach last night.  Play Hickson 30 tonight, attack the rim and rotate defensively while, as D writes, taking care of the rock.  Lillard followed his 1-16 with arguably his best performance of the season last night.  Anxious to see the encore.

MB just reported that Eric Gordon will not play.  Another break the Blazers have to take advantage of.

Wow.  Scoring 63 in an NBA game is seldom the fault of any one individual, tonight no exception.  That said, should we be concerned Nic followed his 5 point performance up with a monster 3 pt game?  Stotts did not look good in his post game interview.  One can't help but wonder if he is getting instruction from above.

Team is tired.  It's possible also that in addition to being tired, they all collectively have begun reading the writing on the wall.  Feel badly for Dame, Wes, and LA.

That game was like drilling holes through paddles, so you can swing it faster when spanking behinds.

I don't know, maybe I'll blame this fiasco on a serious lack of B vitamins? Voodoo dolls? Hangovers? Whatever it was, I was not entertained! At least Victor and Joel showed a pulse.

Disgusting.. And I'm not nearly as disappointed in the score as I am in the effort. Way to give up guys..

Never seen something as pathetic as this. Against the Hornets nonetheless, who did absolutely nothing spectacular to cause us to play like that. Montee Williams even looked disappointed

    Have a great rest.

At least JJ Hickson accidently ran over a fan. It was the most contact the Blazers delivered all night.

(Sorry, felt it worthy of repeating).

As the deadline approaches, now just a week away, I believe what we all witnessed last night may have been a product of the organization being told from within that they intend on staying pat and riding out the season. If that is in fact the case (and I'm not saying it is) expect ALOT more nights like last. Who could blame these guys, particularly the three I mentioned in my original post. The product on the floor will reach an all time low.

No surprise here when the GM constantly talk about not messing with the cap space flexibility and shows no signs of getting help for the starters it's pretty obvious to see that this is the team that we are going to have for the rest of the season and especially when this was suppose to be a make or break road trip you can say that playoff hopes wasn't the only thing that was broken on this road trip.

The only smart thing to do now is reduce the starters minutes and have everyone else get most of the playing time and see who stays and who goes.

    coulnd agree more CarlJ1...

Since the management didnt wanted to take a few risks to reach the playoff, because it wouldnt mess with cap flexibility if we signed a couple players, there isnt much to be worried... just give the rookies game time to develop... and see what we should keep for next season.

Let's all hope this isn't the case, as it would be 'worst case scenario' and doesn't seem a sustainable business play.  The empty seats in the RG will be impossible to hide during local telecasts, trickling down to the 200 levels.  Just as likely (if not more), the guys just started their mid season vaca 3 hours early, and who among us hasn't at least mentally checked out at work the last day heading into a vacation?  They did just expend copious amounts of physical and emotional energy the night before, battling LeBron and the Superfriends wire to near-wire.

I'm wondering if the opposite of not doing anything is in progress. JJ playing limited minutes, guys lethargic, these things seem to happen when someone knows they're not staying here and teammates get bummed out. Nic got that way when his best friend Patty Mills left for example. Could be walking papers have been sent out? Guys are on the block? Showcasing bench players that haven't played ? Who knows? I have a feeling a trade may happen before the deadline.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
