7:30 PM | Rose Garden | Portland, OR
Trail Blazers (19-15) Vs. Heat (23-10)

    What To Watch For

    Home Court Advantage
The Trail Blazers have won eight straight games at the Rose Garden and everyone knows when that place is rockin', Portland is very difficult to beat. While Miami boasts the East's best record (23-9), they are a pedestrian 7-6 away from the comforts of South Beach. Now the Blazers aren't fortunate enough to get the Heat on the second night of a back-to-back, but Miami still must play at Indiana Tuesday night then fly across country to the Rose City. Portland has two days off in-between games after playing five games in seven nights. The crowd is going to be amped up for this one as only the Lakers visiting town could create more of a frenzy then the defending World Champs. If the team comes out and feed's on the crowd's energy, the thought of playoff basketball becomes more of a reality.

    Contain James
LeBron James is the greatest player on the earth currently. Period. And he loves coming into the Rose Garden and putting on a show, unfortunately. In 17 career games against the Trail Blazers, LeBron has averaged 30.1 points per game -- the third highest against any other NBA franchise (Charlotte, 30.2 | Utah 30.4). To go along with his 30+ points, James puts up 9.7 rebounds and 7.5 assists. And while those averages are amazing by themselves, it seems like he does a little bit more in the city of roses as compared to just seeing the Blazers listed on the schedule.  Last year in Portland, James went off for 38 points. Two years ago, he single-handily lead the Heat back for the win with 44 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Not only does LeBron light us up at the RG but his teams win too. Portland has not defeated a team with LeBron James at home since the 2006-07 season. That's five straight losses. It's time to break that streak. Right now. Well, saying so is a lot easier then actually doing it. Obviously Nicolas Batum will start out with the task of defending him, but if Bron has that look in his eye and starts getting into a rhythm, Coach Stotts should not hesitate to throw the kitchen sink at LBJ: weak side doubles, strong side double team, traps. If Portland is going to lose, it has to be because the Heat role players stepped up. And sometimes that's life. Miami is impossible to defeat if their supporting cast is cooking from outside. But we've been burnt one too many times by James. It's time to cool him and the Heat off.

Melo put up 40+ and we beat the Knicks! LeBron could go off and we still could beat the Heat. Nic on LeBron, Wes on Wade, LaMarcus on Bosh...man this should be an exciting game! Can't wait!

We could handle Miami when it was just D-Wade. I don't think we've beat them since the super troopers arrived.
It has to start somewhere. It has to start sometime.

Heat only scored 77 points versus Indiana and lost.  James, Wade, and Bosh scored a combined 66 points.  Taking care of the ball and forcing contested shots is going to be key.

Miami plays small, If Nic defends LeBron, LaMarcus might have to defend someone like Battier or Ray Allen. I'm not sure how the defensive matchups will work. We might see some zone, but I'm leery of that considering the shooters Miami has.

Needless to say, our guys have to dig deep to win this one. My favorite part about Miami is that they are weak at the point, which is probably our second strongest position (offensively at least).

This WILLLLLL be a huge win.

If all of our players, including coaches, can play at full power and speed, WE HAVE THE TOOLS to beat this Miami team! Let's not forget too quickly that 4 of our 5 starters just posted double-doubles in the last home game. That was only done once by any team last year, and almost 15 years since the last Blazer roster that pulled it off... and that game was followed by 3 days off.

If we play smart and as a whole unit, this will be an awesome and competitive game to watch, and we'll stand a fair chance to walk away with a W. Can't wait to watch.

    GO BLAZERS.

It would be a massive help for us if Batum and/or Matthews could get off to a hot start, if LeBron or Wade are worrying about defense, we should see a significant drop-off on offense. Look for Stotts to run some sets for them early.

@CarlJ1...Okay brah, my turn!  Our Blazers capped your birthday celebration(s) with a bow and a W at Minnesota's expense.  I'm asking now that the guys come thru and do the same for me tonight, as I turn 21 again;-)

Seriously though, this game and the anticipated match-ups within it, are very much intriguing, and have me geeked out.  I'll be watching, with my party hat on.  I do agree with Fanatic, and would add to beat the Cheat at the charity stripe.  Don't fall in love with the jumpshot, particularly the long ball.  Be the aggressor and jump on them early.  Rotate, rotate, rotate.  Bron will be in attack mode, and he won't be alone.  Go Blazers!  Beat the Cheat!

Happy BDay BDawg I'm pulling and hoping that your gonna get your bow I know that the boys are gonna be ready for this game so buckle up.

This is definitely gonna be a hard fought game with LBJ calling out his teammates so you know the role players are gonna step up and like Fanatic mention they only scored 11 pts, Defense is key and another stat I keep an eye on is TO's cause we know that Miami kill teams that turn the ball over so Batum and others has to make smart passes or we are gonna see the Lebron-Wade connection and please keep a body on Allen hopefully we learn something when Redick almost torched us.

Lets show the Nation that we will not be intimated or denied Go Blazers! RIP CITY STAND UP!

I fear what Spolstra has in store for Lillard. If they disrupt him, the blazers have not had much success when teams swarm Lillard. Lakers in LA, Boston last month... any team that rushes Lillard really strains the offence.

My question is how do they intend to work out of that and still maintain some semblance of offensive organization?

I am a fan of standing by the team in my home town, Portland.

I think the kid is a quick study. He'll be well prepared by Stotts as to how to make quicker decisions with the rock. He just cant let the sideline become a third defender when he's being double teamed.

What a horrible game between Ind and NY  Neither team hit 80pts with 2:30 to play.  If this game goes overtime I'm gonna go look for a baby armadillo...

Such an amazing game. Right from the beginning I was liking the way we were playing, so glad we pulled it out in the end and didn't give up! LaMarcus was The Man, Wesley was clutch, and Batum continued to play rounded and brilliant.

There is no questioning that these guys have exceeded expectations this year. I really, really hope we can keep as much of this starting squad intact as possible for the future. The chemistry and the (underrated) ability are just too great to let it break up.

@Blazer Fanatic, the dogs always seem so confused by basketball! Tonight I was actually at the RG (wooo), but I feel like the nights I watch the game at home are the most stressful nights of the week for our dogs... if I'm unhappy, they're unhappy, but when I'm REALLY happy, they're fearing for their lives and my sanity. Poor things.

    GO BLAZERS!!!

What a spectacular win. Wesley's step back three, all but made sure my voice was gone. What a gutsy never say die performance by our boys tonight. I loved Sasha's hard nosed disruption. Batum will be the name of my next dog. And now,Lillards going home for the first time to Oakland. If this was a kid that wasnt poised,id say he's probably going to have some jitters. But judging by how this kid has been playing all season, i see him having a great game. He'll have his hands full with Steph.

The Blazers were losing by 13 going in to the half, this happens in LOTS of their games. They go down by like 10-20 points in half but then step it up and go craz,i mean if they keep playing like this they will go far..

Or wear out the starters to the point where they'll be exhausted in the playoffs. We need at least three guys off the bench that wont give up leads and play just as tenaciously on defense.

They were down 13 with 8 minutes to play! Yikes.

I cannot say enough about the job Wes did on LeBron.  15 pts, breaking a streak of 54 games with 20 pts or more dating back to last season.

@ Blazer247  It's so true.  My black lab either jumps up excited and ready to play when I clap, or cowering on her bed when yell.  Poor girl.  I keep a small back of "treats" next to me to help her cope with the emotional damage caused by my outbursts.
