Trail Blazers (15-14) Vs. Knicks (21-9)

    What To Watch For

    Don't Let Them Get Rolling
If the Trail Blazers want to hand the Knicks just their third home loss of the season, they must make life miserable on New York's shooters. Even if this means playing more physical in denying the basketball and picking up a couple extra fouls, because Portland has to keep Carmelo Anthony, JR Smith, and Steve Novak out of rhythm. Fortunately for Portland, Wesley Matthews is expected to return from a hip-flexor injury and the Blazers will need his bulldog mentality out there on the perimeter. Rip City may get another break as Melo is questionable for this New Year's affair as he's still feeling the effects of a hyperextended left knee. Another player to watch out for is Jason Kidd. Everyone in PDX remembers the 3-point barrage Kidd unleashed on the Rose City during the 2011 playoffs. Let's not leave him to double. Like you, I'd rather not see a repeat of 2011.

    Lillard vs. Kidd
Speaking of Kidd, it will be Lillard's job to tire the old man out. With Ray Felton sidelined for a month-plus with a hand injury, the onus is on Dame to make Kidd work for everything he gets. Defensively, he wasn't at his best against JrueHoliday and offensively he didn't record a rebound or assist. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that he's only a rookie, but he's our rookie and we lean heavily upon him. To win, he  and Ronnie Price should look to pressure Kidd full-court and force him to exert any extra energy needed. Kidd has really made a positive impact on this NY squad and without Felton there to back him up, the Knicks could be taken out of rhythm with their floor general either tired or on the bench. When Lillard has the ball, he needs to go right at Jason Kidd and hope Tyson Chandler comes over to help, which would leave our bigs wide open for easy dunks.

This is going to be a fun matchup to watch across the board. Our starting core if Wes plays will be facing quality players at every position. I really hope LaMarcus outplays Melo and Damian outplays Kidd. Be great to start the new year and road trip with a win in the big apple!

I'm really hoping the Blazers can get it going on the road this season. I know they are young and everything, but if they can start winning more on the road their confidence will grow dramatically throughout the season. This young team is really starting to develop and grow as the season goes along, and i'm hoping the Blazers can keep playing at a high level. The Blazers really need to guard the 3 point line against the Knicks because they love to fire away out there. Chandler might give Hickson some problems, but the way Hickson has been playing i'm not really too concerned about that match up. Who knows if Melo will play or not but if he does he probably won't be 100 %. On the other hand, Stoudemire might play, but if he doesn't I expect LA to have another big game with Brewer guarding him. Hopefully Wes MAtt can shut down Jr smith and Kidd with all the 3s they launch. The Knicks have a lot of injuries so hopefully the Knicks can take advantage and start the new year with a W!

Too bad Cupcake is out 4-6.  Was very much looking forward to watching him flail helplessly as Dame took him, at will, and in either direction.

Looking ahead on the Blazer schedule, Fatty Felton and the Knicks make their Rose Garden appearance March 14th, AND it's a game TNT will carry.  What an opportunity for Felton...what a stage that will be for him dropping 50.  Barring another injury, or a local Crispy Creme grand opening, Felton should be leading the Knickerbocker attack that evening.

BDawg... you're spot on. the same way Travis Outlaw played his best agasint us, and Jamal Crawford beat us up... these guys have no respect, so we better watch up for Felton when he comes to us

I have a good feeling about Lillard running all over kidd, but im nervous about JR Smith, we always seem to play badly agaisnt guys who can light it up any minute (jamal crawford, ben gordon), id rather lose to carmelo and kidd, then to JR!)

I honestly feel like whenever we go on the road, Batum becomes the number one option, and at home aldridge is the number one option. I liked Batum as the guy tonight, and Aldridge doing more of the dirty work on the boards. Great win I hope they keep up the intensity going into Toronto

I just got home, so I would like to know how the hell JJ got 18 points in the first half vs Tyson Chandler.

After his bonk game vs Howard.... Then this vs a legit center?

I am a fan of standing by the team in my home town, Portland.

Awesome to have Wes back in the line-up.  Save a few spots where we got sloppy, the ball movement was extremely fun to watch.  They Blazers played a very ballanced, team game.  There were times the Blazers looked like the Globetrotters out there, and finally dishing to Hickson to close out the play.  The passing game had Hickson looking like an All-Star.  Good stuff.  NY didn't play great team defense and it only make things that much easier for the Blazers to dismantle NY by simply sharin the sugar.  Brings me back to an argument about how Batum can only increase his assists by driving to the basket.  Theory debunked.

It gave me as much joy to see Lillard hit that dagger as it did watching Melo brick free throws as the MSG crowd chanted "MVP...".  Babbitt hit some monster tre's, as did Batum through out.  Even Price got in the act showing that Melo isn't the only one that can throw up a prayer from behind the arc and make it.

Seven... offensive rebounds for LA, none bigger than in the final minutes for a put-back 2.

I hope that I wasn't the only one annoyed at the offensively loud organ music blasted over the PA during the game.  Should be forced to adhear to a decible limit, if not banned entirely.

Great start to a very difficult road trip.

Great win last night! LaMarcus outplayed Chandler in the post. Damian outplayed Kidd. Wes defended well. Nic did everything needed to keep us in the game when Melo went off. Babbit got some really crucial rebounds. Ronnie Price played great D and hit some shots, got some assists. What a way to start the new year and JJ, saddled with foul trouble came out like a storm and gave the cushion that sparked the team. Stotts coached a great game and we played defense. Maybe our defensive coaches have adjusted better than I thought, maybe the players are just showing the results now. Hope it keeps up!

Claver will make a great squad player when he develops his outside shot. His size is an asset because he can guard SF and stretch 4s. If he can be a better rebounder and add a post move to his game we could be looking at a possible answer to our f...

Oden was definitely the best pick coming out of high school and arguably ahead of Durant in the 2007 draft. But the draft is art not science and we really needed a dominant center at the time. If we can get Oden for a short term low-risk deal. Lik...
