Trail Blazers (1-1) At Kings (1-0)

Like the Phoenix game, tonight's game against Sacramento will be much more of a test than the Los Angeles game last Wednesday. The Kings, just like us, are trying to figure things out with a young nucleus and will be playing to win, even in the pre-season. Against the Suns, the Trail Blazers fell behind early due to a combination of lackluster perimeter defense and Phoenix finding nothing but net on nearly every attempt from beyond the arc. Also, it didn't help that the Suns out-assisted us 30-19.

What I'll be looking for tonight is the rookies and how they mature on the defensive end of the floor. Lillard will be going up against two lightning quick point guards in Aaron Brooks and Isaiah Thomas. Not only can both guards get to the rack with regularity but if you give them even a step of cushion, they have shown the ability to knock down the outside shot. As for Meyers, he's going to need to play disciplined brand of basketball this evening. Instead of being over-eager and jumping at every pump fake and shot attempt, I want to see him take his time, play under control and pick his spots to attempt blocks.

And finally, I want to see LA get into more of a rhythm offensively. So far in the two pre-season games, he hasn't been a factor on the blocks, which is where he does most of his damage. A lot of this could be the fact that it is just the pre-season, but regardless, most post looks and less jumpers for LA.

Tonight's game is NOT on television, so to see if these changes come to fruition, we'll all just have to listen to Wheels and Tone on 102.3 FM & 1190 KEX.

Myers Leonard got SCHOOLED!  Cousins destroyed him.  This mediocre team made us look D league.  Oh... we have a long season ahead of us folks.  (alright...maybe I'm exaggerating a little).  The 5 threes in a row thing to start the second half was nice...

Fact is we are not switching on defense, crashing the boards, clogging the lanes or passing the ball well last two games. Kaleb Canales has to take some blame for this. Jacking up bricks from 3pt land is not going to help us unless we get offensive rebounds and putbacks. Cousins was aggressive with 5 fouls for far to long and we just didn't drive on him and get him out of there, instead we jacked up 3s again. I know it's preseason, but I want more from Wesley, Nolan, Joel and the bench.

I wasn't able to watch the game but from the Tweets, it seemed like our attempt at working in the zone defense didn't go over so well. And whenever we cut the lead to 7 or 8 points, the Kings would just dump it inside to Cousins who got anything and everything he wanted at the rim.

I know it's preseason but I'm alarmed at the number of 3's we are attempting through three games. We already hoisted 82 triples and connected on just 26 of them; that's a .317 percentage. Although I like the ball movement we are showing in our half-court offense, I feel like we are targeting jump shots as the end goal instead of points in the paint.

And finally, I'm worried anytime we play a halfway decent center, they are going to have a career night against us. Meyers has a lot of potential, but is so young and inexperienced. He picked up 5 fouls in 15 minutes of action. And JJ and Joel are power forwards. We can't expect them to tangle down low and stop guys like DMC.

Batum has not miraculously started playing like the 10 million dollar man either.  Seeing more of the same from him.  5 for 16 shooting (2 of 9 from three) is unacceptable.

I watched for the most part the Horsefaces beat the Chargers on Monday night football last night while time to time checking in on the game. I did not know until I read Barretts blog that we were trying out a new defense. Looks like they need to practice that some more... alot more. That being said it sounded like they were making 3's while getting a soda and a dog from the cheapseats. Kinda hard to defend that. You know it really must have been our excellant shooting that kept us in the game, our starters were what 9 of 57 from the field at the half? And from the fans point of view at this site last night it was all Luke Babbitts fault cause he sucks that we lost that game. The fact of the matter is we stank to High Heaven from the Coach all the way to the Gatorade pusher on the bench. I am a firm believer in total team play but we have got to stop this when one person is off we are all off crap, it has cut our collective throat time and time again.

That's over 50% shooting allowed in the last 2 games. You can blame the zone, but I just blame lazy defense. Seems like we could use more on the ball pressure. Teams are having a field day shooting the ball, because we're allowing them to comfortably set up their offense.

Nah uhhh a defensive center, a backup big either position I don''t care, an experienced wing, without having to give up any draft picks. I''d probably do this but I just don''t know for sure.

I completely agree he could be that voice on the court we need. Lamarcus just isn''t that guy and Damian can learn some on court leadership from him. A small lineup when we need a score bad of Dame, Wes, Paul, Nic, and Lamarcus would be potent.

I mean Damian might have not even been in the same area as them when it happened. Innocent until proven guilty

I would agree Harris seems more dynamic but Harkless looks pretty good as well.
