Trail Blazers, Banfield Pet Hospital Team Up For Fourth Annual Pet Appreciation Night

    Portion of online ticket sales will assist Oregon Humane Society

    Portland, Ore. (January 23th, 2013) - The Portland Trail Blazers will host the fourth annual Pet Appreciation Night presented by Banfield Pet Hospital, benefiting Oregon Humane Society (OHS) on Saturday, Jan. 26 when the team hosts the Los Angeles Clippers. Five dollars from each ticket purchased online for Saturday's game will be donated to the OHS. Adoptable dogs from OHS will be on the 100-level concourse throughout the game.

    As a treat to fans, the halftime entertainment will feature a competition between the ‘Muddy Paws’ and the ‘Portland Tail Blazers’ of the North American Flyball Association. Additionally, fans can visit trailblazers.com to submit photos of their pets wearing Trail Blazers gear to be featured on the big screen throughout the evening.

    Pet Appreciation Night also tips off Banfield’s third annual dog park renovation program. As a part of their joint partnership, Banfield and the Trail Blazers work with Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) to improve a local dog park. Trail Blazers fans are encouraged to visit trailblazers.com to vote for their favorite dog park to designate for a renovation.

    The 2013 Portland Parks & Recreation dog park options include:

    Brentwood Park - SE 60th Ave. and Duke St.
    Brentwood – or as the dogs say, “Brentwoof” – offers a half-acre for off-leash play in the heart of Southeast Portland. A mix of play surfaces, shade, and plenty of room to run makes the park a favorite for many.

    Gabriel Park - SW 45th Ave. and Vermont St.
    The Gabriel Park off-leash area is one of PP&R’s most popular sites. Large winter and summer play areas attract dogs – and owners – from all over Portland.

    Sacajawea Park - NE 75th Ave. and Roselawn
    One of Portland Parks & Recreation’s newest fenced off-leash areas, Sacajawea’s big open space is perfect for throwing a ball or playing chase. Friendly dogs and owners are one of its best features.

    In September 2012, volunteers from the Trail Blazers and Banfield, as well as local community members, gathered to make improvements to Portland Parks & Recreation’s Chimney Park dog off-leash area, winner of the 2012 Dog Park Makeover contest. Volunteers planted trees, mended fences and spread new paw-friendly cedar chips. Additional amenities added to the park included a new water line for drinking fountains, double entry gates, a trash bin and two picnic benches. Normandale Park was selected as the 2011 Dog Park Makeover winner and received new lighting, a drinking fountain, updated benches and new paw-friendly cedar chips.
