    PORTLAND, Ore. –
Portland Trail Blazers guard Elliot Williams will need to undergo surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon, it was announced today by General Manager Neil Olshey.

Williams, 23, sustained the injury during voluntary workouts at the team’s Practice Facility on Tuesday. Williams underwent successful surgery to repair the ruptured left Achilles tendon. He will miss the 2012-13 season. The surgery was performed by Dr. Richard Ferkel at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute.

During his NBA career, Williams has averaged 3.7 points (50.0% FG), 0.8 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.25 steals and 6.2 minutes in 24 games. He played his final game last season on March 7 due to a left shoulder injury suffered during practice that required surgery on March 30. Williams missed the 2010-11 season due to surgeries on both knees.

A timetable for Williams’ return will be determined following the surgery.
