Portland drops third in a row at home

    The Portland Trail Blazers lost 124-109 to the Washington Wizards Tuesday, in front of 20,558 at the Rose Garden, marking the team's third consecutive loss at home.

    "They just outworked us," Portland coach Nate McMillan said. "Right now, the pride has to show up here somewhere and soon. This team outworked us tonight."

    All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge left the game after just two minutes and did not return. Aldridge landed on the foot of Wizards forward Trevor Booker coming down from a 17-foot jumper and twisted his right ankle.

    X-rays were negative on the ankle and Aldridge is listed as day-to-day with a sprain, though he will not travel to Oakland with the team for Wednesday night's game against the Golden State Warriors.

    "Sometimes teams can rally from that. In our situation, that’s what we needed," McMillan said. "Again, LaMarcus wasn’t going to walk back out of that locker room so you can’t wait for someone to rescue you. You’ve got to do it yourself. They just totally outplayed us. For us, pride has to show up on our faces, our body, our body language, our effort and in what we do. That wasn’t out there tonight."

    Portland (15-14) was led by Nicolas Batum in the absence of its All-Star with a career-high-tying 33 points on 12-of-24 shooting in his second start of the season. Gerald Wallace was next with 25 points and set a season high with eight assists.

    Marcus Camby logged the Trail Blazers lone double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

    Wesley Matthews was relegated to reserve duty in favor of Batum in the starting five but still ended with 36:49 of playing time while leading the bench unit with 15 points and five rebounds.

    The Trail Blazers gave up a season-high in points (124), field goal percentage (60%) and made field goals (48) to the Wizards.

    Washington (7-22) was led by Nick Young, who tallied a game-high 35 points on 12-of-17 shooting, including 7-of-8 from beyond the three-point arc. John Wall was next with 29 points while dishing a game-high nine assists.

    Jordan Crawford led the Wizards reserves with 21 points while adding four assists and three steals.

    "There was no defense. We didn’t control the ball at all tonight. Their guards basically, they end up with over 80 points between Young, Wall and Crawford. There was no defense," McMillan said. "This team got better as the game went on. We never established that we could stop these guys."

    Portland plays the second of three games on consecutive nights Wednesday at the Golden State Warriors, 7 p.m.. The game can be seen locally on Comcast SportsNet and nationally on ESPN. 750 AM The Game and NBA Audio League Pass will have the play-by-play call.
