Aldridge becomes sixth Trail Blazer to earn All-NBA honors

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Trail Blazers forward/center LaMarcus Aldridge was named to the 2010-11 All-NBA Third Team, the NBA announced today.

Aldridge, 25, set career marks in 2010-11 with 21.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.16 blocked shots and 1.01 steals per game while shooting 79.1 percent from the foul line. One of three NBA players to rank in the top-15 in both points and rebounds, Aldridge also shot 50.0 percent from the floor and averaged 2.1 assists.

“It is great to see LaMarcus rewarded for all of his hard work and effort,” said General Manager Rich Cho. “He took his game to another level this year. Not only did he have an outstanding season, but he also emerged as our leader and one of the best players in the league.”

Aldridge becomes the sixth Trail Blazer to garner All-NBA honors, joining Bill Walton (1976-78), Maurice Lucas (1977-78), Jim Paxson (1983-84), Clyde Drexler (1987-88, 1989-92) and Brandon Roy (2008-10).
The NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Month for February, Aldridge became the first player in franchise history to score at least 36 points in three straight games Feb. 7-13, when he earned his second Western Conference Player of the Week award of the season. He scored a career-high 42 points in a 109-103 win over Chicago on Feb. 7, following up a 40-point scoring game in a 99-86 triumph over San Antonio on Feb. 1.

He became the first Trail Blazer to score at least 25 points and grab 10 rebounds in five straight games (Jan. 2-9) and his 36 double-doubles led the team.

A finalist for the NBA Sportsmanship Award, Aldridge helped the Trail Blazers overcome a number of key injuries to finish with a 48-34 record and a third consecutive trip to the postseason. He also won the team’s inaugural Maurice Lucas Award, given annually to the player who best represents the true spirit of Lucas through his contributions on the court and in the community.

Miami forward LeBron James, Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant, Orlando center Dwight Howard, L.A. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and Chicago guard Derrick Rose were named the 2010-11 All-NBA First Team by a panel of 119 sportswriters and broadcasters.
