luckily lillard is already embarrassing centers in summer league. batum tweeted about it, maybe they'll hit it off and embarrass people together. :)

AK47 still a possibility to return to the NBA
    recent interview on his status....

    http://translate.google.com/translat....shtml&act=url

Near the end of the interview he says the Nets are a possibility and he was quoted before saying his first priority is the Jazz.

Would he play for the minimum? Cuz at this stage of FA not many teams can offer him much.

Good suggestion but I think AK47 would not be an easy get and is at the end of his career, whereas Nico is only 23 and familiar with our team.

James Johnson does not have the perimeter D that Batum or AK47 has he would be a band aid on D

thats business tho.. its forecasting future value not current value... time will tell but I'm with Blazers on keeping Nic at the 3

Trail Blazers rumored to be apart of the three-team deal between Boston and Houston (via Hoopsworld)-
The Boston Celtics tried feverishly to get a complex four team trade done yesterday that would have netted them Celtics free agent Courtney Lee, however as complex deals often do, it imploded late yesterday. The Celtics were able to revive the deal with a little help from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Both Moore and Williams have non-guaranteed deals and are expected to be waived by Houston. JaJuan Johnson, a 6’10 forward, has a guaranteed deal and has already made it known he’d like a trade from Houston. Pavlovic is expected to land in Portland.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe we would just be absorbing Sasha's salary and also taking back a 2nd round pick. Reports on Twitter have been this has all been made possible by the deal with the Knicks and the trade exception we got from the Felton trade. I also believe adding Pavlovic would put the roster at 15 players.

    From Hollinger-
Hearing C Lee deal is more like 4.6M to start. Celtics paying Pavlovic's salary for Blazers and threw Portland a 2nd
It looks like we are getting two assets (not paying for Sasha) and not giving away anything in return if this reported deal goes down as advertised.

One asset I heard is 6-8 Kostas Papa.... Kostas Papanikolaou had first rounder written all over him if he didnt have such a high buyout and he has already said he plans to come over next year... pretty good pick up for basically nothing

other asset is Gregiors not sure

Sasha could still be waived without affecting the cap. I think Neil will entertain deals with veterans and take a closer look at some summer league players before making a decision about keeping Sasha or waiving him.

Sasha is definitely better than Babbitt. He at least plays with some semblance of courage and passion. We definitely need a savage to back up Nic at the sf spot, and Babbitt isnt it.

Totally agree, cmeese, I'm guessing Claver will be the rotation backup SF, JJ the rotation backup PF (probably more like 6th man), and Babbitt will be at the end of the bench brought in when the Blazers need that occasional lift from the arc.

In all honesty, I'd rather see Barton crack the SF rotation before Babbitt. Weakest mental player on the Blazers and hasn't worked hard enough to make himself more valuable.

Babbitt does work hard but he struggles because his skills are limited not fast or athletic enough to be a real SF or big enough to be a pf.

Well, he works in the gym all the time, but he works on getting stronger and his 3-point shot. When you listen to his interviews, he never talks about ADDING to his game. I think he believes if he just gets better at what he already does well, somehow that will translate to more minutes.

James Johnson was had for a second round pick. Ak-47 still available the combination of those two would have been more than enough to handle the SF spot.

a guy had for a 2nd rd pick and ak-47? AK-47 is 8 yrs older and on the downside of his career.  I highly doubt he would give us anything close to what a properly used batum would..

Yah and AK-47 and a James Johnson in a contract year would have also cost 1/3rd Batum's salary. The combo of AK-47 and Johnson is likely more productive than Batum/ Claver or Batum/ Babbitt.

I doubt there is any chance that Ak47 plays with Portland anytime soon. James Johnson wouldve been a good pick up, but what Ive heard from people who watch him, he is more of a PF (TWEENER). I dont think there is anymore FA that would be help us left. We are and should be looking into trades now. I hope we can find another main scoring option for us. Like a big name player. Were pretty much stacked at every position. I wish we can find a good SF (then slide Bautm to the 2) Rudy Gay or Danny Granger.

    GO BLAZERS!

If Lilliards summer league translates at all into the regular season then I think we have found that. I don't expect 26 points a game from him but he can be a great scorer after a year or two. Also, on nba.com so far 47 percent of fans voted that they believe Lilliard will have the best year. And Barton has showed that he could really have been the steal of the draft with a few nice games in the SL. We will just have to see how our rookies pan out this year to know what we need exactly next offseason.

I am not sure the Al Jefferson's, Paul Milsap's, Steph Curry's, James Harden's, Serge Ibaka's, Brandon Jennings or any of the other big names available will be in any of those cities. Unless Bynum makes it to free agency.

I would invite Ibekwe to the preseason camp for a look.  What position does he play?  I saw him jumping over people to get rebounds probably would be fouls in NBA play.  He was fun to watch.  The skill sets of Babbltt and Ibekwe I think are completely different.

I understand that Ibekwe is 27 years old and is a 6'9" power forward weighing about 210 #.  He played for US Nigeria and went to U of Maryland ?  That is all I know other than he can really jump.

I like how so many people on here talked about Kirilenko being a cheap SF we could get if we didn't match Batum. Shortly after, Minnesota signs AK-47 for 10 million a year. Goes to show we know nothing about players' contracts and what they're "worth". LOL

@ Ricky and my friend Common...agree 100% with your thoughts on Ibekwe.  In fact, I was impressed with him LAST year as well.  Size matters, and this young man plays much bigger than his 6'9" frame...something Portland could use.

    Addressing Nic and the thread title (as of time of this post), here was Nic's line from the US-France game yesterday.  You all tell me how many million YOU believe this performance is worth;

started, playing 18 minutes (lowest of any starter btw), 7 pts on 2-6 shooting, 0-4 from 3, 2 rbs, 1 blk, and 2 TOs.

Nic is officially becoming the most polarizing Blazer on this years roster and undoubtedly worthy of his own thread moving forward.  You hear what I'm layin' down Meese?

Ibweke has a cummins diesel motor, unlike that lawn mower engine that babbit plays with. He isnt afraid to mix it up, and he knows his role. I still think he's D-League bound. Or at least he should be.
