I am sure many of you have seen the following article http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/135572-matthews-calls-out-teammates-after-blazers-seventh-straight-setback

The question is who is right and who is wrong. Personally I think Matthews came off like the leader of the team and Stotts and Aldridge came off like (derogatory insult about their manhood) you have lost game after game in blow out fashion, 17.3 point average during the current losing streak someone needed to show some fortitude and say this is not acceptable. Matthews did just that and what happened his statements get undermined but Lamarcus Aldridge and Coach Stotts. LA and Stotts are supposed to be the leaders of this team but they certainly did not act like it tonight aside from LA's game on the court. You can blame a couple mental mistakes or turnovers when you lose by 5 not by 18. 13 turnovers in a game is actually a pretty decent number allowing 51% shooting and 12 made 3's are not. The defensive effort tonight was pathetic and Matthews was right for calling the team out on it, and until the rest of the leaders grow a set this franchise will be stuck in the lottery or losing in the first round of the playoffs regardless of how much talent we accumulate.

This is why we love Wes Matthews!

Lamarcus played GREAT on offense. The team will forever be mediocre if we dont get mean and play some intense DEFENSE! Portland is 29th in the league Opponent Field Goal Percentage Leaders. We obviously cant outscore people with 5 players like we did earlier this season.

You cant win if you have 5 players(on a good day) that can consistently score and have basically have 2-3 players that consistently play defense!

Wes is just voicing frustration and he didn't have a good game. It's not like we lost to the Bobcats here. Asik is the number 2 rebounder in the NBA and Harden is one of the best shooters in the NBA. Wes was gassed trying to play defense against Harden. LaMarcus and Stotts are mature, calm and collected personality types. To me that's not a question of their manhood. At this point I'm sure Stotts has been directed to take a long look at the bench and see what potential is there before the ax falls. He's teaching now. Defense? Anybody who's watched the team all season knows we are a poor defensive team. I blame Canales for that more than anyone. Kaleb worked with Smith and Babbit for endless hours over the last 2 years and we've seen the result. The Blazers need a 6 man and a couple of elite defenders as well as a defensive center. Try to enjoy what progress is on the court over these last couple of weeks. We'll have a new bench next season for sure

Well like him or not Coach Kanale days are numbered. If not than the FO should be fired along with the GM. Defense can be taught to even the poorest of Athletes to be a fair defensive player. The team we have now is not comprised of  poor athlete's. I did not read the article (nor will I) because I can pretty much guess at its context. Matthews comes to play for 48 minutes a game win or lose playing poorly or hot as hell. All he expects out of his teammates is the same attitude and work ethic. LA is a nice guy quiet and reserved and undisputedly the best player on the team, but he is not a leader never has been. Once in awhile you have to willing to dine on someones butt for lunch to get him going otherwise they are going to walk all over you. LA cant do that or wont So Wes did and it wasnt just one loss it has been ALOT OF LOSSES BY ALOT OF POINTS. Wes was probably the only player last year who came to play every game even when those around him were tanking it and he does not want to see it again. Someone needs to kick Portland in the butt.

Aldridge is just a cool cat. Matthews leaves his emotions on his sleeves. It's not so much mixed messages. It's just different ways to do post game wrap ups. Yes Matthews did miss almost all his 3's. But even if he scored 40, he still probably would've said the same things. Wes hates losing. So does Aldridge. They just show it a little differently after the game.

I have nothing against being calm and cool but, there has to be a time when getting you a** handed to you and playing with half a** effort has got to get to you no one asking LA to change who he is, he needs to show that he cares and that this is unacceptable because being laid back in this situation is sending the message to the team that it no big deal to play with lack of effort and to lose game after game after game because you know what they say actions speak louder than word and what LA and coach Stotts are say is not matching to what I'm seeing on the court.

That is what I am saying Carl being calm and laid back is cool but sometimes you need to get some fire up your A$$ and demand more from everyone 7 at the time and now 8 straight losses is well past that time.

I think the starters are worn out just my thought. When you play the mins they have played without a decent bench for most of year it is hard on the body as shown by the injury's late in the year with that though they get paid millions so deal with it lol.

Starters that are injured are culpable for wanting to play through injury and win games while there was a chance. Stotts talked about it recently, how they were entitled to a shot given how they'd worked to get around 500. Wes and Nic could've each taken half the season off but wouldn't. I don't blame Olshey for that.

Its Olshey's fault we had no bench and no bench lead to excessive minutes more injuries and thus more losses.

I trust Olshey and like what he did this year, Elliot was his targeted 6 man and never played a game, Sasha started great defensively and developed a foot condition. That's two guys down already. Price was our first double digit scorer and our best defensive guard, injured all preseason and reinjured shortly afterwards, never recovering to his earlier form. Smith and Babbit were not Olshey's idea, they were Canales's boys from last year. Other than that, we've overachieved this season. Now we have improved rookies on the bench and 1 as a starter. Not bad for a rebuild. Overall the direction of the Blazers has impressed me for a first year, rookie laden team. OKC and Brooks won 28 games first year..we're better than they were at this point

Overachieved really we were projected by many to get 36 wins it does not look like that is going to happen. OKC started their rebuild with virtually nothing we had an established All-star and two other established starters.

Blazers vs lakers used to be a big game, and it still is to all my laker fan friends.I wish the days of blazers competing were still around but they just arent,I look at a team like denver and I get jealous cause they have got it right, the blazers just seem like a franchise that has given up and consider we were 20-15 at one point in the season and now we've won what 13 games since and that was in late december

I don't think a team not willing to go deep into the luxury tax will ever be a champion.  Simple facts, the players go where the money is.  The Heat's payroll next year is estimated to be 93.3 million, and the following year with the repeater tax will be ~141 million.....They know that bringing in the TV contracts, fans, and merchandise sales can offset the tax.  Maybe with the new luxury tax system in place that will change, I don't think anybody knows for sure if teams like he Lakers and Heat will continue to be able to buy championships.  But betting on putting together a team like OKC feels like a lottery ticket to me.  Even putting together a good (but not championship level) team like the Clippers feels like a fantasy right now.

PA needs to open up his wallet and invest in winning.  I also agree Canales needs to go.  The fans here are extremely loyal.  Huge season ticket fanbase, "sellouts" every game etc.  Portland clearly has the best fans, and PA knows it.  We've got people here who will stand by Batum regardless.  There are people here saying we should go after Oden, Patty Mills, Brandon Roy, Przybilla, and euro league nobodys.  Like any of that will create a winner.  Organic growth of a playoff team is possible, I'm not denying that.  But at the end of the day until this team commits to winning with the best players we will always be a medicore team.

well theres a big difference between us and the heat for one they can land huge tv contracts/have more fans/sell more merchandise for the simple fact there a large market team and stern loves to push large market teams we will never be able to be them point blank period unless we landed a superstar player through the draft that is marketable like okc did with kevin durant

If it was the draft all over again, I would still draft Oden over Durant. If Oden was playing injury free at his full potential, he's a DPOY.

makes perfect sense to me cmeese.they took it literal. carmelo isnt a Mvp because he doesnt make players around him better, but he is playing well. This year lebron and kobe are the two best players by far just as they are every year. Durant and Melo are basically the Alex english and Adrian Dantley of this generation. guys who can pour it on and score a ton but dont have all around games.Either way the Blazers really should've done their homework on Oden and found out how injury prone he was,our team has a history of horrible luck(sam bowie, bill walton) with injured big men. This is franchise of what if's. Imagine if Oden and brandon roy had been healthy and played 82 games every year.Imagine if Bill walton hadnt got hurt,or if sam bowie had gotten hurt. Or the worst, Imagine Arvydas Sabonis coming to play for the blazers in 1988. Imagine the blazers teams of the 90's that won 60 games with him on the team. They won 63 games in 90-91,imagine if they had a younger more athletic Sabonis on their team. They would've at least got a ring. I can see were paul allen is alittle frustrated.

We can't play the what if game. Too many mistakes to even consider that. Passing on Jordan and Barkley, Passing on Chris Paul or Deron Williams, Oden over Durant. Plus injuries it is just not going to be pretty to play that game.

Yeah thats a good idea cmeese,I mean our franchise has more what if's then any franchise i know, what if we drafted barkley? what if sabonis played in his prime? what if we made the reported barkley trade in 1992 instead of phoenix?what if we drafted durant? what if greg oden and brandon roy were 100%? So many what ifs its crazy? What if cliff robinson doesnt drop that pass in 1991 when our team was #1
