Trail Blazers (29-32) At Hornets (21-42)

    What To Watch For

    Field-Goal Percentage
In their 99-63 loss to the Hornets back on February 10th, the Trail Blazers were completely out of rhythm. Not to make excuses, but it was the final game of a six-game road trip and the All-Star Break was a shining light at the end of a five-month tunnel that was the first-half of the season. Portland is a team that features five rookies and it showed on that night as they continued to dig themselves a deeper hole as the game went on. But the real reason for the defeat was shooting. It doesn't matter how great of defense you play or how determined you are to win, if you score 63 points in a regulation NBA game, you will lose. Every time. The Blazers shot a chilly 24-74 (32.4%) from the field and 2-17 (11.8%) from downtown. Ironically enough, Portland was a perfect 13-13 from the charity stripe. Defensively, the Blazers were alright, as they held the Hornets to 47.1% shooting, so if they can keep the Bugs to around 90 points once again and just shoot to their averages, they should be able to take the season series from NOLA.

    The Rebounding Battle
52-35. That was the rebounding edge the Hornets had on the Blazers in their last meeting. That can't happen again. No Trail Blazer had over 6 boards in the contest and the team had just 6 total offensive rebounds. When you're missing 50 shots, there should be more than 6 offensive rebounds grabbed. And if by chance the Trail Blazers are struggling from the field again, they must pound the glass. JJ Hickson was held in check to just 5 rebounds, but ever since the All-Star Break he's been a machine, recording double-doubles in seven of the last eight games. So look for JJ to be in attack mode from the jump, setting the tone for his teammates for the rest of the game.

The key is to do the same to them as we did against San Antonio. Get the bigs in foul trouble. Attack Davis and Lopez. The combination of Lillard and Maynor has been a handful for opposing squads. Id love to see Freeland pull Lopez out of the paint and make room for L.A. or Hickson to do some damage on the boards. Batum had a real lackluster performance against the Spurs. I look for him to be more aggressive against the Pelicans. { ridiculous name by the way } With Leonard and Claver doubtful, Babbit should get a few minutes at his customary stretch four. He'll need to be on his game  tonight. Ryan Anderson is a serious threat from deep all the time. If Babbit can have a decent shooting night from deep,we can keep them honest.

I like the formula of going to LaMarcus and JJ in the first half and the guards in the second half. This is pretty much a must win for playoff chances. Utah is sliding but Houston pulled off a comeback so we're still in the hunt if we can get a win streak going and Utah and Houston or even the Lakers slide.

pretty much in agreement with riverman here (big surprise!)! i like how we established the Spurs game with the bigs early on. i think that opened things up for the guards in the second.

I am a fan of my team fighting to win each and every game.

Big surprise here we beat the Spurs but lose to the Hornets. Us 30 rebounds, Hornets 19 offensive rebounds. Someone needs to learn how to box out cause this is pathetic. Maynor did his best and Barton scored some early points but Babbitt and Jeffries a bench does not make.

There's time for things, and time for God.
But losing to the Hornets twice, is really quite odd.

No surprise like always we play to our competition. No excuse where was the sense of urgency you gotta know that a Monty Williams coached team is gonna scrap and try to outwork you and that's what happen we got outworked I hope this team took notes on how to grind and get dirty because we are gonna need it in the next game, this team playoff chances is on life support someone needs to pull the plug especially if your not gonna fight and work like your playoff lives depend on it.

Greg wants a fresh start. Portland wants a fresh start. And thank you, Siccolo, for comparing this to B Roy. Any draft prospect is going to be pretty impressed with what GO can do on the court... even a 75% GO. A kid that has no idea what NBA game...

To go another season with so many rookies is not a good idea. We need a couple of vets and atleast one young bench scorer. If we want a Center, go after Hawes from Philly and Dorrell wright can be signed as a free agent. We can trade our 2nd round...

Thanks Ricky.   I''ll be watching @ 10.   Haven''t seen enough right hand from Shazamm.   Without the ability to take his defender either way off the bounce, let alone finish at the cup with either hand?   Second rounder at best.

Sug81 I love Iggy but this team has numerous gaping holes throughout the depth chart so signing Iggy is not the best way to spend our limited funds

That roster looks pretty good, but if we would have enough cash Corey or Ronnie brewer would be nice
