Trail Blazers (25-30) Vs. Celtics (29-26)

    What To Watch For

    Eric Maynor's Debut
Damian Lillard is 4th in the NBA in total minutes -- as a rookie. Hopefully, the addition of Eric Maynor allows Coach Stotts to rest a Lillard a little bit more down the stretch to ensure, Dame doesn't log too many minutes in his first year. Maynor was probably the elite backup point guard in the NBA during the 2010-11 season before suffering the ACL tear. As is the case with most athletes, once you get hurt, usually your spot gets taken and that's what happened to Maynor, who fell to third on the depth chart behind starter Russell Westbrook and Reggie Jackson. I wouldn't expect the world out of Maynor over the first couple of weeks, mostly due to him being unfamiliar with the system and his new teammates. But make sure to watch his turnovers and his jump shot. That's all you really need from a backup: take care of the ball and hit a few shots.

    Blazer Backcourt
Back on November 30th, Damian Lillard and Wesley Matthews tallied just 13 points on 4-14 shooting, 6 rebounds and 3 assists combined as the Trail Blazers lost convincingly to the Celtics. This one was well in-hand for Boston at the half as they had raced out to a 23-point lead, which allowed Coach Stotts to rest a lot of his starters with the game out of hand, but there's no doubt that the backcourt must provide more production if the Trail Blazers are to knock off the Celtics for the first time since December 30th, 2008. Boston has beaten the Trail Blazers nine out of 10 times since acquiring Kevin Garnett from Minnesota in 2007. Look for Lillard to have a big night as he's been a man on a mission over his last 10 games, averaging 19 points and 6.5 assists. If Dame can continue this trend, the Trail Blazers will finally knock of the C's.

hopefully maynor will make a difference probably not right off the get go or anything as he'll probably be trying to learn the new system and gel with the rest of the team

After that shot to the head by Kobe I hope Dame doesn't have a concussion since he went down holding his head if so Maynor might have to be thrown in to the fire I'm pretty excited to see him in action I just hope that Laker loss doesn't have that same effect the OKC loss had on us last year because after that the team never recovered.

I would expect something from the Blazer office to Stern's desk CarlJ1.  Not that he'll even look at it however.  The NBA doesn't see too many concussions...in fact, I can't remember one, though former Blazer Gerald Wallace had a rep for that sort of thing before coming here.  Point is, how can contact severe enough to cause a concussion and occurring directly in front of an official, not be a foul?  I do fear that loss will have a similar impact on the Blazers as they continue to fight thru the remainder of this season.  It has to be a spirit killer when judge, jury, and executioner throws your proverbial innocent head down on the wood and raises the blade.  That game and the way it ended had corruption written all over it, the league fearful of ratings with the possibility of the Lakers missing postseason action.  I'm not a conspiracy theorist, and am the last one to question officiating...but this is different.  That off my chest...

This Boston match-up is intriguing, as we will see Maynor getting considerable action, especially if as CarlJ1 points out, Dame is unable to go.  The one thing Maynor has working for him in a new system is that he can be a score first point guard, obviously minimizing facilitating duties to some degree.  If Portland is able to bring a similar effort to the one in Staples, the outcome will be different.  Nice having Nic back to his pre-wrist injury self as well.

If I remember correctly, not getting into the playoffs could be good for Blazers - we gain 1st Draft pick.  So yes, it would be nice to see them win tonight (I will be there in the Garden), but if they do or not, I remain a fan and it is a good thing either way, in my humble opinion.

Today I would love to see a blowout win in the Rose Garden against the Celtics. Time for a long win streak. I'm not a fan of missing the playoffs and as to the weak draft, do we really need more rookies? I want to see us make the playoffs and get Damian that experience his first year in the league.

Cant believe we havent beaten Boston since 2008 man.

We need to snap this 7 game losing streak and a Win against Boston would help massively

One of the best wins of the season.  Especially considering the performance, or lacking performance, of when the Blazers played in Boston.  Even Rondoless, Boston just went down and beat Utah in Utah on the 2nd of a back2back.  This was a really great win and fun to watch.  Shame it was on KGW, and I couldn't watch the replay.

I was really happy for the bench.  Victor looked almost Batum like out there doing a bit of everything, which is exactly what Portland needs from him.  He defended well, and just did what was needed with a sense of purpose.

Leonard was a beast on both ends. He didn't look lost, and didn't back down from the jaw-jacking mouths from Boston.  He took some really good fouls and made some solid defensive plays.  Defense?  Oh, there it is!

Barton played relatively under control.  He looked so much better than he has in the past bringing the ball up the court.  Maynor wasn't impressive, but consider he's been with the team 1 practice and was basically playing an away game on the Rose Garden court, he was a noticable improvement over nolan/ronnie.

What happens if we don''t win? Dwight will start his nonsense, we would be out a lot of money, and with no real talent to show for it. San Antonio and Memphis is proof that you don''t need superstars to win.
