Reacting to a loss Vs. Responding to a loss

     Okay, I've wanted to get this off my chest since I left the Rose Garden last night after that Gut wrenching loss Vs. the Wizards. While I was leaving sitting in that horrible queue of people trying to get onto the escalator from the 300 level, I heard two men talking about their plans for the rest of the season ticket-wise. One man said "After a loss like that, the rest of my tickets are going on Craigslist" and his friend responded with something along the lines of wanting to purchase them. The man selling his tickets went on to say "Why would you want to buy tickets for a team that doesn't play 48 minutes of basketball?" 

    I did not hear the rest of the conversation, but the purpose of me writing this whole thread is to talk about how we React to a loss versus how we respond to one. I know, just like the 17,000 some odd fans that were in the RG last night how bad that one hurt, Wes made that three and the other 47 minutes and 53 seconds of that game was forgotten, but the second Crawford hit the buzzer beater every thing that went wrong during that game came back into our heads, JJ dropping the dribble, Victor's missed layup etc. etc. Obviously we're going to REACT poorly to a game like that, and every Blazer fan in the building left with a sour taste in his/her mouth. What I don't understand however is how some fans can RESPOND so poorly as to not want to attend a single game for the rest of the season, yes we're in a bit of a rut but these guys DEPEND on the Rose Garden to be the best fans in the league because WE ARE, so we need to respond by defending our home court. If we lose faith now halfway into the season all that will do is make the players lose faith as well. I was at that loss last night, and yes I reacted poorly, but I'm responding to by buying tickets and by making sure my voice is heard tomorrow night Vs. the Pacers. Sorry if it's kinda a weird post but I'm tired of the fair-weather fans in Portland because we're Blazer fans, rain or shine. Thanks for reading.

    I think not wanting to attend another game is a valid response and reaction from the perspective of, the Blazers have cap room, a $2 mil trade exception, and a $2.6 mil Room exception. They have even more before signing Batum. And Olshey didn't do much. Ok, so noone knew they would be THIS good. Well, "we" knew this team was this good 2 months ago, and still nothing has been done to help this team where it needs it most... the bench, Center, PG, and SG. Can you honestly blame a fan who doesn't want to invest their money when Olshey didn't, and has said he won't in the near future, invest in getting the Blazers a real bench? I mentioned in a recent blog that it's like going to the casino. Some people will keep gambling and losing money, and enjoy it. I like gambling too, but I don't play games with the worst odds. And right now, the Rose Garden is filled with games that have horrible odds. Does that mean I don't enjoy the game? Perhaps, especially when I always come away a loser. When Olshey put some games in the casino that have better odds, I'll come to the Rose Garden to play them. And I won't fault REAL fans for feeling the same way about this season.

    In short, that feeling or reaction doesn't mean a fan is fair whether. It could in fact mean they are an extremely passionate fan who is very competative and hates losing.

    Choices eh? Sounds like something a person would say the Madison Square Garden after a Knicks loss..the guy not wanting tickets at least. Losing sucks but losing by buzzer beaters is the worst. I'm a fan who wants them to win every game but life's just not like that. I predicted that if the Wizards swept the Blazers, the pitchforkand torch wielding villagers would comb the woods looking for a monster. I think it's human nature. On the big stage you're only as great as your last win....or as bad as your last 6 losses..choices. I do think the recent losing streak will stimulate some changes and adjustments. At least the team has made a game out of the last few losses. I'm starting to wonder if it's ever worth watching the first half of a Blazer game...just tune in after the halftime is over

    It's pretty simple, losing makes you feel bad especially when you don't have to.

    Regardless of the outcome, as long as JJ Hickson and Damian Lillard are playing, I'll be there. I haven't enjoyed watching players like those two in a long time. Also doesn't hurt to have Wes, Nic and LA! This season is all about perspective. Sure being 5 games over .500 was fantastic, but it wasn't realistic that it would stay permanent. We don't have a bench and our starters are wearing down. It's just the nature of the beast. But this team is a lot better then most thought at the start of the season and our young players are really developing well. That in itself is reason enough to attend. I love watching our youth grow right before my eyes.

    To be honest, I did actually make a bet that the blazers would make it to the playoffs...yes it was wishful thinking but right now we aren't too far off from it happening either.

    Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
