"i can see overseas players flopping but not american players.. they made the rule for the overseas players.. but now its out of hand….."

I just can't respect a guy that changes his name to World Peace and proceeds to bad-mouth every non-American NBA player. Did he forget there's a giant, tempermental Spanish power forward on his team? Hmmm.

This thread is also about the flopping rule. What do you guys think? I personally think it's entirely flawed. When compared to the goaltending review rule, one can change the outcome of the game, while the other simply fines players for bad referee calls. I think this should be more of a rule for officials to emphasize rather than a fine from the league. Opinions?

I think the new flopping rule has changed Ginoblis game for one...he's disappeared. I also think the few thousand dollar fine is chump change for stars and they should make it like a goal tend..2 pts and the ball. That would be more effective than fining players. Plenty of American players flop. Jerry Sloan was a famous flopper when he was a player for the Bulls back in the day. He coached the flop. It's not a Euro invention.

    Haha! Nice.

I think you're right about the effect it's having (although Ginobili is old enough that he could have just hit his wall). Either way, less flopping is a good thing. But it is kinda bogus that a referee who can't tell the difference between a foul and a flop is ultimately the one that gets a player fined. All I'm saying is that, were I a part of the players' union, I'd be livid that the fines are coming my way for bad officiating.

Last season i watched Idiot World Pest blatantly elbow James Harden with an elbow thaat could have killed him were it flush on the temple. That imbecile should be in a straightjacket at an asylum somewhere. I could care less about anything that scourge on the game says. The NBA as a whole should be fined for allowing him to still wear a uniform in this league.

A-FRICKIN-MEN. There are plenty of NBA issues that I may not have the full knowledge to be critical of, but you don't have to be a basketball expert to recognize that that ogre doesn't deserve the multiple opportunities he's been handed. The guy has no respect for other athletes, he sees only the bright lights of fame and celebrity in Los Angeles, the least respectable, most soulless pit in the entire country.

As for flopping, like DPick said, less is a good thing, hands down. I agree with the initial statement that the rule should be more about emphasizing that the officials need to get the call right, and less about a monetary thing between the players and the league.

But you guys keep saying something that's confusing me; how are the refs responsible for the players getting fined for their flopping? Isn't the fine assessed post-game by watching video, and would therefore have nothing to do with the call on the floor? Don't get me wrong, that's a problem, it SHOULD be more like pts and the ball because what happens on the floor matters to the players far more than a few grand, but I just feel like until they learn to use the cameras (always have perfect vision and without question can see every play more clearly than even the best ref, and won't slow the game that much, that's a silly argument), it's going to be a separate issue than the effect of the flop-fines, and right now I didn't think it was something in the hands of the refs, it's in the hands of the league.

I honestly think the humiliation of the NBA calling people out for flopping is far worse than the cost of the fine.  Its a public acknowlegement that has been absent for so many years.  And I think it's a fantastic rule.  Puplic humiliation is often the best preventative remedy.

Next we need to get rid of offensive basket interferance, if not goal tending in general.  Once the ball hits the rim, it should be fair game regardless of which side it benifits or hurts.

I like that refs can call and then review suspected flagrant fouls.  Whether it slows the game or not shoudn't even be an argument.  I find it far better for the game to prevent and squash that kind of play.  It hurts the game far worse than any pause in action could ever do.

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
