Trail Blazers (2-4) Vs Hawks (2-3)

    What To Watch For

    Nicolas Batum
Nico has been amazing so far this year, to say the least. Through six games, he's averaging 19.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.7 steals, and 1 block per game. If you ask me, that's $11 million/year production. In Portland's last game, he nearly helped lead an improbable comeback with big shot after big shot. But it was his demeanor on the court which stood out most. He demanded the ball in his hands and wasn't afraid to take the game-tying shot. It didn't drop, but step one in becoming a big-time player is wanting to take the last shot. Let's see if he comes out tonight with that same mindset.

    Under 100
The Trail Blazers are 2-4 and have given up over 100 points in every game but one. They currently allow 104 points per game which is second-worst in the NBA, only behind the Charlotte Bobcats. Luckily for Portland, Atlanta only averages 92 a night -- 22nd best in the NBA. For the Blazers to salvage this homestand, they must keep the Hawks under 100. With the struggles our bench is having, it's hard to keep asking the starters to score over 100 all by themselves. Not only that but good defense leads to easy buckets in transition.

Pathetic 20 turnovers is unacceptable simple as that. We also need to fix the bench now starters cannot keep playing 38 minutes a night.

Looking like this will be a long season

Bench scoring skyrockets to 6!... Dude. Lame. This whole "JJ off the bench" solution won't do anything either. Then the bench will get 14 more per game, while the starters will get 14 less per game. You don't fix your bench by benching your starters; you test out guys 15 men deep for a couple weeks, and when you still can't find "the guy(s)" you start making trades.

Yeah I think JJ should stay in the lineup now. We should make a trade.

I know the numbers say blame the bench. But we didn't score in the first two minutes of the game, and we didn't score in the final two minutes of the game. That ain't the bench's fault.

Good point TS.  We are exciting to watch.  Like we thought we'd be.  We are not winning games.  Like we knew we wouldn't.  As fans we need to chill and support the positive.  Getting antsy and starting trade demands is so premature.  LMA is off so far.  JJ is a stud.  Our amazing rook has to take his lumps before he will be an all star or even solidly consistent.  Relax and enjoy the fun parts of what we have going now, people.  We wholesaled our team last season and ARE in a rebuild.  The next win isn't that far off.  Be patient.

Amen, Posted. People are getting way too freaked about losing early-season games on a team that we knew would have some losses all through the season... there is plenty of positive upside to look at. That being said, as fans, part of our duty is to be critical of what we see in our team; the "couch coaches", ya know? I'm not interested as much in talking trades this early in the season, but I'm yelling loud and clear (and frequently) about Aldridge's tendency to go back to his soft-outside-shooting habits... not saying it's not a good weapon in his arsenal, but it is NOT nor will it ever be his effective bread and butter when it comes to night-in/night-out production.

Also, I am LOVING Batum. Inconsistency is a lame call-out right now I'd say, because he's producing well in a small sample size, even if it's not every game. Later in the season I think the conversation will be weighted heavily in the optimistic fan's advantage :) Ditto for Lillard, Leonard, Freeland, Barton, and hopefully Claver.

    GO BLAZERS.

I am not worried at all about the losses, but the huge minutes for the starters and zero bench production is not a recipe to build on. We need to make some moves now so that we can continue to build chemistry.

We are now officially the sparring partners of the elite NBA teams. It's going to take awhile for our staff and roster to develop the chemistry to take over games. I've accepted the fact now. We have as good a starting 5 as anyone in the league..now let's get at least 2 bench players in double digits.

Nice Idea but I think the TWolves trade is very lobsided in our favor

Derrick Williams and Budinger are proven players in the league. Claver and Freeland are not

Hawes was playing nice this season and would be a good pick up imo ...

I love the Grit and Grind, and I love the Spurs timeless play. I think if the Spurs get to the finals, they will beat the heat, but they won''t beat the Grizzlies easily, and the Grizz can''t beat the Heat. I know it''s weird.
