Did you guys hear about this?  I was recently watching the Celtics and was amazed by their summer league team, but then heard E'Twaun Moore and Purdue teammate JaJuan Johnson were traded.

So I went to NBA.com and saw this:

The Rockets will receive a second-round pick in next year's draft from Boston, via Charlotte, forward JaJuan Johnson, guard E'Twaun Moore and forward/center Sean Williams. Houston will also acquire the rights to guard Job Diebler from Portland. The Celtics completed the deal by trading guard/forward Sasha Pavlovic to Portland.

Houston previously withdrew a qualifying offer for Lee, which made him an unrestricted free agent. The 6-foot-5 Lee played two seasons in Houston, averaging 9.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in 139 games.

The Rockets continued to reshape their roster after introducing Jeremy Lin at a press conference on Thursday. Houston is also expected to sign Bulls center Omer Asik to a three-year, $25 million offer sheet.

yeah, we must be doing those teams a favor because I don't see Pavlovic doing much with us. I'm guessing we did this just to get future help from these teams

yeah, well, I guess I'm happy for Diebs b/c he was having a pretty good summer.  I didn't see a ton of him, but I have more games to see.  What I saw so far, he was pretty active, wasn't making mistakes.  He musta impressed Houston and yeah, maybe this deal wasn't so much to get Sasha, but to give Diebs an opportunity that he probably wasn't going to get here.  But houston?   that team has gone as nuts as portland this offseason.  I'm waiting for them (or the hawks or lakers) to get Howard in some massive blockbuster.

nobody's been talkin bout hawks much, but my understanding is they got rid of joe johnson and a lot of cap space to clear the way to make a strong push for dwight and I further heard they brought in some coach and a player or two that have some history with dwight?  I dunno the whole story, but don't be surprised if he ends up there.  is it danny ferry calling the shots in atlanta now?  I forget.  but they'd made a lot of changes.

    anyway. getting off topic

Okay, we give up Diebler.  We get Pavlovic and a second round position.  Diebler is better than Pavlovic.  How is this so good for us other than we would have to pay Diebler while we do not have to pay Pavlovic.  I think this is a marginal deal unless there are some other items in the trade.  I must be missing something.

It was player for player, plus 2 second rounders in 2013, plus cash for a player we cannot use at the moment. Smart move, next we need to do a deal for Babbitt so we can clear a spot for Przybilla @ 1 year 1 million We need a low minute starter as well as mentor for Leonard and Freeland and then we can retire him a Blazer.

Thanks, I did not realize we got two second rounders.  Now I think the trade had value in receiving pieces for future use.  How much flexibility do we have right now?  cap space, complete roster, other players not on the roster, players over seas?  I agree we should add Prz but I think we will have to waive a player to make room on our roster.  Waive Pavlovic.  Also, Stiemsma is still available and Kirilenko is available.  Two players who could add to our team if we have cap space and roster changes to make room.  Stiemsma is a center and Kirilenko is a sf who could play pf as well.  Comments?

The current roster looks like this:

    pg  Lillard, Smith, Price

    c    Leonard, Freeland, Gadzuric

    pf   Jeffries, LA, JJ, Pavlovic

    sf    Barton, Claver,Batum, Babbitt

    sg    Mathews, E. Williams,

Over seas Papanilolaou, plus other player recieved in Felton trade.

It looks like we already have 16 or 17 players and the max is 15.  Do the players overseas count in our player total?  So I would make the following moves: Waive Pavlovic, Waive Gadzuric unless he is better than Prz, Choice to make.

The intention has been to waive Gadzuric all along, not sure if they have officially done so or not but he will most definitely not be on the roster. Small issues with your roster, Barton is a SG and Pavlovic is a SF, which leaves us with 3 at every position except SF(4) and C(2). Maybe Olshey will strike some kind of deal to bring in another center? Or maybe not, you have to think that all of LA, JJ, and Jeffries will be playing some 5 this year. Right now we're only in a position to improve, and my understanding is we still have the ~$3mil trade exception? Is that correct? If so, it definitely puts us in a prime position to trade for another big man, maybe packaging Pavlovic or even Babbitt with one or two second rounders that we just received for a big man with a bigger contract.

I heard Gadzuric was waived.  Barton is 6-6 and has played PG, SG, and SF... he can be classified however you want; he'll fill team need.  My guess is he'll be listed as SG/SF.

I'm curious, I heard that minnesota got compensation from portland for martell webster b/c he was damaged goods, needed back surgery after the trade.  Also portland's paying big money for brandon roy... does all that go against our cap and hold portland back?

If Gadzuric was waived that gets us down to 15 players if we do not count the overseas players.  Now if we waive Pavlovic we could add the cap space available and use our trade exception of 3 mil to make an offer to Stiemsma of around 4mil per season.  Might be worth a try.  I don't think he as accepted as offer yet.

Overseas players are not on the roster, we just own the right to make the first offer when they decide to come to the nba. Also, Roy was amnestied so his contrct is paid by us but doesn't show up on our cap space. Also, when'd we get price? Finally I love pryz as much as the next guy, but is he really worth the roster spot anymore?

I think Prz would be a stablizing voice in the locker room and a looked up to player.  I would like to see him in a blazer uniform.

I was excited when we drafted Diebler because we needed shooting, but since we added Dame and Luke's become more proficient from 3, having Diebs on the roster isn't as necessary. Also, since we picked up Barton, we are stacked at the 2 guard and have no room for him.
