The Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly considering shutting down Brandon Roy. Should they? Posted by Ben Golliver. brandon-roy

The 2010 version of Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy is a far cry from the 2008 and 2009 versions, and it's throwing Roy, his franchise and the Portland fanbase for a loop. Expectations have been re-calibrated, dreams have been deferred and apprehension has mounted.

Without question. We love Brandon. His game, poise and personality. I think it's the best thing for him right now if he is to salvage his career. At first i thought, lets shut him down until the playoffs,it would give him enough time to mentally and physically prepare for what his role would be. Then i heard something that made even more startling sense. What if brandon isnt himself ready to relinquish the role of #1 option ? That would be detrimental to the squad in light of how well L.A. has been playing. Coming off the bench is also an option for Roy. Is it a coincidence that two of the best bench players in the game are also from Washington? [Jason Terry & Jamal Crawford]

the prospect of this has come up on a couple other message board threads. truthfully, if Brandon could rehab his way into the best shape possible -- and perhaps adjust his game to his body -- and be ready at the outset for this year, i don't necessarily think it would be a bad idea. i almost think that's what it's going to take at this point.

there's anohter consideration which ocurred to me. by placing Brandon on the inactive list, would we be able to get a hardship roster spot should someone go down to injury during the rest of the course of the season?

anyway, i don' have a yay or nay on the basic question, but if i were one of the parties involved, i would seriously be considering it.

Roy is a class act on and off the court, and currently a long-expensive contract

...this means it is in Portland's best interest to make long-term decisions on behalf of Roy's health.

The organization needs to think longterm not only for what is best for Brandon, but also what is best for the Trail Blazers.  If that means Brandon sits the rest of this year then that's what needs to happen.

Thanks for the response guys and yeah, sorry if this would have been better placed elsewhere on an already existing thread. As has been stated before or as Chris Webber elicited - we might be better off in the long-run to rest him. I think losing GO really put a dent into this season big-picture-wise, but I still think we should play with the goal of making the playoffs with the guys we have, but of course, for that deep run that we would all like to see, it's clear that we are going to have to put that off another year. I am just scared that we are running out of time for that, but I hope that next year with Roy, GO and Joel back for real and at full strength, we can make that run, but it remains to be seen what our team will look like when training camp rolls around next year. For now, let's cheer on our team and support them no matter what! Can't wait for tonight's game! My first in a long while!

nah Anees, when i said i've heard that mentioned a couple of times, i meant that it had just been a comment here or there, not that it wasn't deserving of a thread.

I guess Batum would be a good fit since Ilysavoa plays 4 more than the 3, which I didnt know lol

I think this would be a really good deal for Bucks then. They can draft Dieng with the 10 and maybe Franklin with their pick.

You''re right. They should dump Monta though. I was thinking maybe the Rockets could use the number 1 pick to get the lakers to do a sign and trade for D12.

Paul Allen might sell the Blazers but the Blazers will never leave Rip City.
