Who will you folks choose as your most improved Blazer. Aldridge, Mathews, Batum,Claver, Barton, Freeland, Leonard or Lillard? I'm not listing the new guys, just the guys coming back.

My pick will be Batum because I think he'll be an allstar this season.

I actually think it will be Batum. He started so well last season and I think he can continue in that same manner this year. His shooting and ball handling will be better and now that we ae more legitimate scoring options off the bench I see a good year for both Batum and Matthews.

Batum should be solid this year but with the extra depth on the team he won't be an all star he is likely going to post numbers around 12-5-5-1-1, which will make him valuable in fantasy basketball but not an NBA all star.

Batum's line from last season:  14.3 PPG  5.6 RPG 4.9 APG  1.1 BPG  1.2 SPG

So, Batum's number will go down, and no opinion on most improved?  Got it.  Just wanted to throw out another back-handed slight?  Not an All-Star twice in the same sentance - wow.   Starting the "don't vote for Batum to play in the All-Star game" campaign a bit early aren't we?  You're a joke.

We know from a mirad of threads on this forum you don't approve of any Blazers, so feel free to go bump one of your many other "trash a Blazer" threads with this non-sense, or by all means continue the joke troll, "fantasy" guy.

As to the OP.  I think Robinson will be most improved.  I don't see his transition to Portland being that unlike Hickson's.

Aldridge, Mathews, Batum,Claver, Barton, Freeland, Leonard or Lillard?

But... since I guess I can't pick T-Reb, I'll to with Lillard.  I think the TOs will go down and his defense will be improved, and he will be the prime benificiary of having a legit back-up and better ball handlers around him to lessen on-the-ball pressure getting up the court.

I would agree with that sentiment Lillard looked like he was taking his defense seriously with Team USA and that was before he spent anytime working with Gary Payton. With a better bench and a healthy Batum he should also face less double teams making it easier for him to score or distribute.

With more balance his numbers might decrease just like Batum's because he should not need to play 38 minutes a night but with the slight decrease in overall stats his efficiency will likely increase, which is more important than overall numbers.

If he puts up 18 and 8 Lillard would be a major threat to make the all star game.

I think Robin Lopez is going to open up the game for Batum in a way JJ never did. Lopez sets screens like Pryz used to. When Lillard, Aldridge and Batum are on the court together Batum is going to be wide open alot. This thread was about returning players but I'd pick TRob if I listed the new guys as well.

Batum will be "most improved" because this is the first summer in ages he has not played eauro ball- he will be rested for the season. But the person who improved the most will be leanard- I believe at some point in the season he may take over the starting roll and be a 10 and 8 guyin 28 mins a game

Remember that April when we acquired Eric Maynor?

    That month Damian LIllard put up 21pts 7ast on 47FG 46% 3pt

Those are some ELITE numbers, he did play 38 minutes though, but one would think with the additions of capable ball handlers in Mo Williams and CJ McCollum, Lillard can overall become more efficient.

Im going to go with Lillard. 19 and 7 on 44%FG and 39% from 3 with improved defense would be awesome

That is what I relied on as well.  Even if Lillard does not play fewer minutes, although it is likely he will, his time on the court will be much easier than last season with legit back ups at SF, SG, and PG.  It will allow him to play off the ball more, and allow him more relief to get into the offense.  He is better able to identify traps that come this season, and has the confindence and legit help to give the ball up before he gets trapped.  I can only hope that teams try to double team him at 1/2 court as they did all year last season.  Lillard is an elite athlete that should be able to play 48 min a game, but it's silly to think he wouldn't play better with fresher legs - at least better defense.

@commontongue...interesting, Freeland is motivated to get into the rotation, I've no doubt he'd put in the hard work and he'll have a tough road to get there on this roster. I like the pick though because it's a sleeper. My sleeper pick would be Claver because Stotts has shown trust in him and will put him in a position to succeed.

Lillard I think will be an allstar and could have been last season. I've no doubt he'll improve but I just feel other guys have a bigger leap in front of them. Aldridge I feel will be better as well. Wes I think will be healthy but do what he does best.

Batum is my top of the list though because I think his role is going to blossom with this roster and system this season. His talent is capable of doing something historical. I'm thinking he has a shot at the triple double record. Rested, healthy, a deeper supporting cast, I see Nic taking it to the next level. My biggest hope for him within that leap would be to lose the finger roll on a fast break and dunk the rock! Bank it off the glass, dunk it..anything but the finger roll that too often spins off the rim.

At this point, the MVP for 2013-14 has yet to be crowned. It's called swagger. I hope to see a lot of it this season. Lillard has it already. He wants to be the best. That's the point of my the string theory in play here. It's all about possibility. The US hockey team was never supposed to beat the USSR's team but..well, they did. Giants fall, records are made to be broken qne it's a thrill when they are! Go Nico!!!

Well Lebron does put up almost triple double numbers every night. Most nights when he gets close it's after 3 quarters of work and he rests most of the 4th anyway. He is the most capable right now because he has the complete skill set. Batum could get 5 triple doubles this year and I think that number will be a great return for him. His minutes will likely decrease with Wright on the roster. But Batums numbers will always be a little understated because he is the 3rd or even co- 4th option on our team. I'm most interested in his shooting percentages and his shot chart. Is he going to settle for 3s as often as last season? I think of he keeps his scoring level but improves his rebounding and shooting percentage then he will be our most improved player. 15/6/4.5/1.5/1 a night is more than sufficient for him. No great jump in the numbers, but an increase in efficiency will have him the most improved player in the league, not just on our roster.

Batum needs to be at about 18 pts. 5 rebounds,5 assists,2 steals, and two bocks per to show significant improvement. Can he do it ? Yes. Will he is the question.

My thought exactly.  Completely agree with fredisdead on this one.  The pre-wrist injury Batum was spectacular, leaving little room for improvement.  Leonard gets my vote here for most improved Blazer, with The Thrill grabbing the silver

My Nico pick is a shout out to build some buzz around him and see him become as respected as James Harden, LeBron James and Kevin Durant. If he becomes an allstar and is a factor in a deep playoff run, he's my guy. I think if Nic takes the next step we become contenders with our core and to me, he's the X factor. I hope Leonard makes a huge step but my gut says he's another year away. Nic is on the doorstep of becoming a really elite player. I'm also banking on our new medical and fitness staff to improve his strength and conditioning. Nic will be the go to guy when Mo and TRob and Leonard come off the bench and he'll be able to keep his flow when Lillard and LA are resting. This is his season to peak and if he doesn't, I'll resign myself to the fact that he is what he is.

X-Factor certainly.  Most Improved, I can't see it.  I see other players taking a larger jump, but do agree that it will seem like Batum has improved when it is more a factor of playing with this group of guys, not playing on the French National team, and a healthy wrist.

Batum has potential, no one can deny that. but the issue is..

does he have the drive of a Darius miles..

or does he have the drive of a great.

personally Batum is too soft to be an all-star. or even a #3 scoring option.

too inconsistent.  you can throw up x number x shooting percentage. x pgg. it doesn't matter.

    hes an average small forward.

My breakout hope is the #11 pick in the 2012 NBA draft. I hope he'll claim the starting position from Lopez.

but i don't think he will. So I have to go with freeland for breakout player, it wont show up offensively. Or really even in the box score. But he'll be in the right place at the right time this year. Rather than looking lost last year. Also Victor Claver interests me. I hope he gets minutes.

Claver was a better defender than I thought he would be last year. His rebounding should improve and I expect his shot to be a whole lot smoother. Claver helps create a mismatch because he's a 6'9 wing. He won't be most improved, I still think either Batum or Leonard will get that honor but Claver will be a good 3rd if he gets minutes. Freeland still doesn't interest me. I think hes more of a Euroball player.

Guys like Chauncey Billups matured slowly into champions and MVPs so for some the shelf life is a little longer than others. Chauncey was trade fodder for years before he finally landed in Detroit. There he won everything in one fell swoop with the right system and roster in place. Sometimes patience reaps great rewards.
