Batum is too good at everything to be dumped for somebody. Particularly an old washed up Mike Dunleavy! I don't know why everybody is making such a big hub-ub about it after his injury. I didn't hear you guys calling for him to be traded after the Cleveland and San Antonio games! OLSHEY KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING! He has said on multiple occasions that Nic will be a cornerstone for this franchise. Unless you guys are Neil Olshey, stop calling for him to be traded, because he WONT.

I agree he showed his potential on a pretty consistant basis early in the season and when he got injured he didn't really dissappear out there he found other ways to contribute if we had a bench alot of those games where he didn't score huge but contributed in other areas were close and very winnable thats where the bench would of came into play

And how did he mess up HHSL (I'm not gonna type your whole username)? He got one of the better SFs in the league to stay with us. Don't say there are so many better, that's only because he got injured.

Batum needs to fix his offensive game! The dude does a lot of things out there but all he does is shoot 3s on the offensive side. I just want someone that can create their own shot on this team. Hate seeing Wes and Batum just sit out there by the three.

Our Wings cant dribble or create their own shot which disgusts me

Also were neither one of them are elite defenders. They're decent but Wes is slow and Nic is weak and scared

An Angry NIc, the one who dropped 28 vs the heat, is 11 million dollar Nic. He needs to play close to that every game

Special K, aren't you a cereal? And yes, Batum is expensive, but I think he's worth it. Why would you take someone who isn't is as good, just for less money. Then why don't we take the worst possible player and pay him the least possible amount of money?

The rules limit the effectiveness of defenders these days Blaser. Lebron would win defensive player of the year every year if he could hand check people and hold on to his man like the old days.

@Ripcity it is all about cost effectiveness, Batum made 10.8 million this year, while Matt Barnes making around 850 thousand gave the Clippers, around 10 points 5 rebounds 1 block and a steal per night while playing 13 minutes less per night than Batum. Are Batums 3-4 extra assists per games really worth 10 million more. Not a chance especially when you consider if we would have offered OJ Mayo and Carl Landry 5 million each last season we would have signed both of them. OMG look at that we got a bench.

Not only would that 10 million would have been much better spent on free agents last year trading Batum would have landed us, Kyle Korver and 2 first round picks from the Wolves.

That is a tempting deal, but Batum's potential outweighs them all. Let's forget whether he will actually become an All Star or not. When we signed him on that contract, he had the potential. Great potential. That was worth it. I think he will live up to it once he has his full healthy season.

Potential out weighs them all are you serious OJ Mayo has more potential than Batum, then you add in what Landry and Barnes provide plus whatever 2 first round picks offer and it is not even close.

OJ Mayo is over rated. Everyone knows it. He is more inconsistent than Nico. You want to talk about great starts, and then disappearing at the end of the season? Talk OJ Mayo. He wan't even injured. And his defence is non existent. Batum also put up better number is almost every category except points, and that's with Nico being a third/fourth option behind LMA and Lillard, and Mayo was second option. Mayo also shot better from 3 and the field I'll give him that.

@ RipCity14, u nailed it w/ OJ ;)  I wouldn't say "Batum is definitely overrated by Blazer fans (maybe by some but I DO think quite highly of him);" I WOULD say that MOST Blazer fans (we) love him MUCH > other fans/pundits ;)  Hahaha!  However, IF it were true that "Batum [wa]s definitely overrated by Blazer fans..." I think ESPN has also made this same "mistake" too by ranking him 3rd best amongst ALL NBA sg/sf :)

Simpson where is this source because I am pretty sure no one on this planet would have Batum 3rd on a SF list let alone a SG/SF list.

He is clearly behind Lebron, Durant and Melo at SF and that is not debatable at all.

He is clearly behind Kobe, Wade and Harden at SG and that is not debatable at all.

Want to debate Paul George, Paul Pierce go ahead but you will lose.

So at best and this is being generous he is the leagues 6th best SF and the leagues 4th best SG.

@Sug81 My bad I didn't mean it like that. I just meant that I thought that you were being serious about a completely ridiculous idea of trading Batum for MIke Dunleavy. The only reason I thought you were serious is that we would gain about 6 million in cap space with MD being paid around 5 mil a year.

@ billyamick47, they r indeed.  Fantasy or not, those ranks take HEAVILY into account stats aka tangible production (i.e. we've still got a lot of Patty Mills fans but u don't c him top 10 ;).  I've said on another thread that I personally too think the rank is too high currently for Batum (there r > 2 guys ahead of him; for & against his case, intangibles must b considered too) but I STILL think he is good & will improve (he'll eventually get closer to that #3 in the "real world" ;).

He wont ever get past Paul George unless he averages above 16pts 5 reb and 5 ast

Batum in 38 mins averaged 14 pts this year with almost half of his shot attempts being 3s

He can barley reach 16 points unless he plays 40 minutes. We cant have our third option not have a offensive game. Wes is just a 3-D guy but he scores more than Nic. If we wanna get anywhere, we need more depth or a better third option.

Not two months. It wasn't a major injury, X rays came back positive. I know he played because we had no one who could replace him, and that was admirable, but it simply does not take that long. When he had a good game, he said my wrist felt good. When his shot wasn't falling he said his wrist was bad. He could be telling the truth but it is convenient.

I think most teenagers know a little bit about wrist injuries, and if you want to use, a little pain is not going to stop you. I understand he was using it on a constant basis, but it was not 24/7, he was not doing knuckle pushups (Shout out, Kevin Love), he wasn't putting that much stress on it. I know block shots and shooting can hurt, but it simply does not take that long to heal.

No doubt he was injured, and that affected his game, but he used it as an excuse later on.

OK I am feeling so sorry for poor Batum (NOT), his wrist was hurting so bad and it could not heal becuase he was using it night after night and it could not heal.

According to Blasers logic then Wes and LMA should have had poor games because of their ankle sprains because thier ankles were being used night after night.  Look at LMA he had a severe ankle sprain, should not have played the last game of the season, but did and had a Monster night.

OH by they way, if you have ever had a severe ankle sprain, they take a heck of a lot longer to heal then a wrist injury.  Plus ankle sprains typcially bruise and they will show up on Xrays and MRI's as the muscles around the joints will be inflamed with blood.  That is why they are so easy to diagnos.  All of Batum's tests came back negative.

Batum's excuses like his game are a liability to the team.  Are we paying for Potential or Production.  We cannot have a team when we are waiting for players to play to thier potential.  Five years is enough.

Dude is a head case.  I can watch 1 quarter of Blazer basketball and tell you what kind of game Batum will have because IT'S WRITTEN ALL OVER HIS FACE.  This is the guy who lost it in the Olympics and punched a grown man in the balls.  Some of you guys need to stop listening to Mike Rice and Casey Holdahl and just pay attention to Batum for a bit.  Hiding out on the perimeter, passing everything but a wide open shot, declining contact, dribbling off his foot, sulking, holding his wrist etc.  Batum did a pretty good job with the extra 10 mins he got this season padding the stat sheet but his impact on the game is minimal at best and probably in the context of his salary a net negative for the team.  He's gotta go.

Batum is a keeper. I dont care about who he hit in the nuts, and i dont care about what people say about him. All he needs is a croissant to run alongside of him. Parker has Diaw, he needs Beaubois, or Turiaf or Peugeot or something. That dude has better chase down blocks than LeBron " i fouled out in the loss to Indiana " James. The most aggression Batum has ever shown is punching someone in the Nuts. We don't hate Batum, what we hate is his inconsistent, excuse making, disappearing act, nonchalant play.

If you correct those, then he would be a valuable commodity.  More importantly if he would not be gutless and learn to drive to the lane and get to the free throw line, now you are talking he is earning his contract.

More and more people are waking up to the fact that Batum is a valuable trade commodity.  We should take advantage of that now.

@ commontongue, AGREED!  Batum would enjoy another countryman on the team but I don't think it's necessary; this coming season, Batum's gonna b that ~$11million guy (this past season, I was happy w/ his strides; I hate that he had 2 battle through injury; I'm never happy about any of our guys having to deal w/ injuries but certainly respect when they play through them if they can).

@ all haters/those calling for trading Nico, Batum alone didn't lose games for us; this team had a lot of holes/problems; if he hadn't gotten hurt/played better than he did this season, would that have helped the team?  YES.  IF he hadn't gotten hurt/played better than he did this season, would that have translated into many more W's (enough to get into the playoffs)?  MOST likely NOT.  I know he's been here 5 seasons to develop & I will agree that w/ a lot of players, you'll have a very good idea of what you've got after ~3; guess what, Nico's from France, it's kinda different over here; he MAY have needed to adjust to a few things the 1st-2nd years, so I'd give him ~1yr. more to know what you've ~ got AND THEN ~ 2yr.s more to have a good idea of what a guy can do/ceiling.  ALSO, remember how young he was when we got him?  Give u a hint, he's 24 NOW.  How many guys who were drafted ~19 turned out to be studs their 1st year or eventually became them?  I'll admit, drafting Nico or any other KID ~ that age is a gamble, I think it was a gamble worth taking.  Currently, has he lived up to his newish contract?  No.  Will he?  YES!  I think it will b this coming season that it all comes together; IF it doesn't, THEN I DO believe that enough times will have passed to say that he's not able to bring enough to the table AND THEN we can trade him w/ no fight from me; IF THAT time should come... I'll join in, light my torch, & grab a pitchfork too BUT until that happens, which I think is actually LESS likely... I SUPPORT him & ask that Blazer Nation rally in SUPPORT of Nico AND LET him show the NBA that he IS 1 of its best!

Exactly what Simpson said. He is only 24. Just because he played 5 years in the league doesn't mean he's some sort of Grizzled vet. He had to adjust to the new style of play, and he had to grow up as a person. Not many teenagers become stars after playing 1 year.
