To keep the petition uncluttered I have decided to make a separate thread for people to discuss their reasons for trading Batum, or why they are against it, and what we could potentially get for Batum.

Personally, I think Batum is over paid at the NBA's deepest position and while he clearly has talent I do not see him ever being much better than what he was last year. With all the holes on this roster trimming Batum's fat contract would allow the Blazers to add much needed depth and talent.

I could not agree more, Batum is a decent player but he is not amazing at anything. He is a decent three point shooter, he is a decent rebounder, a decent passer, and a decent defender. His contract is far beyond decent though and will only get worse over the next few years.

I am done with his potential and have relegated myself that he is an above average player on a below average team and that needs to change.

Cmeese, his year would've been better without the injury, if he could maintain the first half of the year production that'd be great. But I have to agree that his contract is a little too much. I think he should really be worth around 8 mil.

At the max maybe 30 people will comment on that petition. 0% chance Olshey will look at the thread and trade Batum to please those people.

Im not against trading it if it is for the right price

Well then Siccolo, you're going to be famous. Soon, all of like 30 people in Oregon will be laughing at your jokes. Nic Batum should not be traded. He is a great player. We overpaid for him no doubt but Minnesota put our backs to the wall.

Why do people keep ignoring that he was injured for most of the season? How can you expect him to play through that and live up t his expectations. Once we get his pre all star break production back, everyone will stop complaining.

The only reason this comes up is because it's the offseason and we're nervous and can't deal with the waiting.

Considering that is the only aggressive thing he has ever done in his life, it is not likely he will do anything. Maybe if he did I might respect him more. But its alright enjoy your higher ticket prices to pay this joker 11 million a year.

As in going to the basket and drawing contact. When he feels like it, god help us all, the man is unstoppable. I love Nico and do not want him to leave at all, but he needs to be more aggressive. Look at Dame. Dude is 6"3 and isn't afraid to take it to the rack.

I know it's also partly because Nico isn't a great ball handler, so he has to improve in that area. If he does, with his passing skill, he can become a pseudo point forward.

    Career highs really

    Bad News

Per 48 minutes Batum's scoring was the second lowest of his career only behind his rookie year.

Maybe you meant his career high in turnovers

His rebounding numbers were the second lowest of his career behind 2011 per 48

His FG% was a career worst

His and 1 % trailed only his rookie season

Number of charges taken trailed only 2011 when he amazingly went 80 games without taking a single charge.

His EFG% was a career low

Career low offensive rebound rate and offensive rebounds per 48

His total rebounding rate was also a career worst

    Good News

His Assists were the only number to significantly improve in a positive manner

He also had the least amount of his shots blocked

His FT% was a career best

Shot a career best from 3-9 feet at 50%

How long do we have to wait for Batum to play up to his potential? (Not down to it).

He just completed his fifth year and abolsutely the most overpaid SF in the game.

PER 48 is only a bad stat for a guy playing 10-15 minutes not for someone playing over 30.

    Is Batum overpaid? Yes

Is Batum an overall valuable player in the NBA with high player-value? Yes

Does Batum have potential to become a better player than what we've seen? Yes

Let me clear this up for everybody. This is what Olshey is doing, although, if you asked him, he's probably say "Batum is a centerpiece for this team and we plan to keep him on the roster for as long as possible." The reality is, Olshey is shopping Batum. If the GM can't find a suitable deal, there won't be a trade.

im not a fan of batum but it is what it is. he is a little over paid but his contract was based on his improvement which i dont agree with, but he's solid. if you can get something to make this team better you do it. who is to say olshey hasn't looked at offers for batum and decided he'd rather just keep nic. if you want to win right now you need to focus on the team's weaknesses and while batum may be on the list he's way down at the bottom. they need a defensive 5, a 6th man, a facilitator if they dont resign maynor and a couple roleplayers.

Cmeese, like you said, per 48 is only good for someone playing at least 30 minutes, so you can't use his 30 min season, and compare it to his 20 minute seasons. And all those previous seasons, Nic was purely a catch and shoot guy, and had plays called for him. Now he is more free, has been given the opportunity to work within Stotts' offence and will take a year to get used to it.

When was the last time this team had something worth cheering. I cheered when we took Damian Lillard and booed when we took Meyers Leonard. I cheered Roy's huge fourth quarter comeback and booed when the Mavs won knowing Roy's career was likely over. I cheered Greg Oden then booed when he had 5 knee surgeries.

I would say the last time I legitimately cheered was Roy and Aldridge draft. Of course since Roy is retired or should be and we still have not seen a second round playoff series. BOOOOOOOO!!!!

So last thing I had to cheer was in 2000, and while I cannot BOOOO that team I can BOOOO Stern and the rigged officiating.

2001 We draft a stud in Zach Randolph, but after he puts up 23 and 10 for us we trade him for Channing Frye and Steve Francis BOOOOOOOO!!!!

2002 We draft Qyntel Woods over Tyshaun Prince then we take Frederico Kammerichs over Luis Scola BOOOO to both

2003 We draft Travis Outlaw BOOO!!! in 2010 we trade him and Blake for Camby YAY!!! Camby is really only good for two years BOOO!!!!

2004 We draft Sebastian Telfair, passing on JR Smith, Al Jefferson, Josh Smith, then we get Viktor Khryapa and Sergei Monia over Tony Allen, Kevin Martin and Anderson Varejo. BOOO!!!!

2005 Portland trades #3 for #6 and #27 passing on both CP3 and Deron Williams, then drafts Martell Webster over Andrew Bynum and Danny Granger BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

2006 Roy Yay!!! 2013 Retired for good BOOOO!!! Aldridge Yay!!! no playoff series wins BOOO!!! Joel Freeland and Sergio Garcia over Paul Milsap BOOOOO!!!

2007 Oden Yay!!! 5 knee surgeries and 82 played games BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Rudy Fernandez BOOOOOOOO!!!!

2008 Brandon Rush traded for Bayless missed on B.Lopez, R. Hibbert, R. Anderson and S. Ibaka. BOOOOO!!! Drafted Batum Yay!!! not lived up to potential now makes 11 million BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Draft Omer Asik trade him away BOOOOOOO!!!!

2009 Claver, Mills, Pendergraph, and Cunningham 3 are gone none any good BOOOOOO!!! Passed over Taj Gibson, Chase Buddinger and Marcus Thornton.

2010 Elliot Williams 24 career games played multiple injuries BOOOOOOO!!!! Armon Johnson could only dribble with one arm quickly out of the league BOOOOOOO!!!! Luke Babbitt over Eric Bledsoe and Avery Bradley BOOOOOOOO!!!

2011 Nolan Smith over Faried and Jimmy Butler BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

2012 Lillard Yay!!! Meyers Leonard instead of trading up for Drummond BOOOOOOOOO!!!!

That is just the draft issues it would take a lot longer for the terrible trades and many other issues the team has faced in just the last 13 years alone. Just because I complain a lot and make numerous suggestions to trade fan favorite does not mean I am wrong nor does it mean I am not a fan.

I have a real stupid question.  Why is it when there is a Post about keeping Batum that it gets very little traction on this board?  However when the Batum Trade talk starts people are all over it?  Seems like more and more people are sobering up from the Batum Koolaid and realizing that we have an average SF at best.

Anyone rememember guys like Bobby Gross, Jerome Kersey, Calvin Natt who had less than 1/2 of Batum's Ability but played every night like it was the NBA Championship without excuse and got to the free throw line.  To me they were the epitome of a true small forward.  And lets not forget Scottie Pippen who Batum has said he aspires to be like.  If Batum cannot even play like Gross, Kersey or Natt, how the heck, can he ever get to Pippen's level.

My Brain is tired of thinking of all of the good players Portland had and let go away like cmeese indicated.  I am tired of waiting for the players to play to thier potential.   Batum it is time to grow a pair and play the bame the way it is suppose to be played.  QUITE READING YOUR OWN PRESS CLIPPINGS.

Maniac I imagine a lot of that has to do with cmeese he posts more than anyone else on here by a significant portion and when it is Batum trade talk he replies frequently, keeping Batum only gets a couple quips out of him.

I also find myself more interested in trade talk and notice that when you post, you almost exclusively reply to the trade Batum threads and not much else.

Cmeese47 - I tried it for a couple of months after I got tired of one individual being too sensitive to the critics I was giving of Batum and Paul Allen.  This person basically started trashing me on this board and in my own subtle way, I told this person, to FO.  I laid low and just read the postings, and guess what, when I started re-posting, the person who was not on the board any more, but the Batum Kool-Aid drinkers never left.

I am like you, I will cheer when I have something to cheer about, and quite honestly there really has not been a whole hell of a lot to cheer about.   We are becoming the LA Clippers before CP3 and Blake.  I want players on this team who play with Blazer Pride and Guts.  Sort of like the players I mentioned previously.  Is that too much to ask?

I live in So Cal, and I too remember the infamous fourth quarter collapse against the Lakers.  I had a Blazer Flag hanging from my house and caught some much crap from the worst fans in the Country (Lakers).  They are so losers, but what is worse is they are extremely arrogant winners.  But I still remained faithful to the Black and Red.

I would love a team where every player had Wes's heart and work ethic and quit making excuses for poor play like Batum does.  Is that too much to ask for with these guys making millions?  This starts from the Top down.  Yes I am taking about Paul Allen who has said once we are a contender he will put money in the team.  So how the heck do you become a contender without investing in your Team?

I believe in the Black and Red and I will until the day I die.  I hope to experience again a championship like I did sitting in Section 72 with my Dad on Father's Day 1977.  Will that happen, who knows, will it happen in five years, probably not?  But we can only hope that less then mediocrity ends.

God I am old, that was the year I graduated from Portland State.

There is nothing like an NBA Championship. Portland went crazy that day they won in 1977.  My Dad woke up that Sunday morning and wanted to go to Breakfast and surprised me after breakfast by taking me to that game.  I will never gorget it.

What was different about that team?  Jack Ramsey had them playing for the sake of the team.  He was the John Wooden of the NBA.  The players were all committed to winning a championship with no excuses and more importlantly so was the ownership.  Larry Weinberg was a genious and more importantly the Blazers were his true love.  He never had any outside interests in any other sports team.

I was a sad day in Portland when he sold to Paul Allen.
