So I was reading an article on Yahoo! Sports about Paul Pierce and whether he's played his last game as a Boston Celtics player, or if he'll still be playing for them when next season starts.  The article also talked about the possibility of Kevin Garnett going to either the Clippers or the Lakers.  So my question is this:  Would Paul Pierce make a good addition to the Trail Blazers team for the $15 Million that he's currently getting paid to play in Boston, or would the Blazers need to pay him more money to come here?

Under no circumstances whatsoever, should Paul Pierce come to the Blazers for 15 mil. I would not pay 5 mil for him. He is past his prime. I wouldn't even want him on our team.

i would absolutely want pierce on the blazers. being a basketball fan you'd be crazy not to. however, nobody is going to pay him 15 mil a season. for 5 mil i'd definitely so it. start him and have wes come off the bench and you have a 6th man candidate and balanced scoring from the starters. portland would have a big 3 in LA, Dame, and Pierce. It would also make signing e-will a lot less risky. i know plenty of blazer fans who'd love to be the underdog team packed with underrated role players but if this is a realistic possibility i would pull the trigger. realistically though i see him getting maybe 8 mil and there's a more glaring need at the 5 spot.

We're a young team. Pierce has maximum one year left in him. We spend even 5 mil on decent production from a starter that will leave in a year, it's a waste. Better to get long term talent that can gain chemistry with the team. Nothing against Pierce, one of the greatest Celtics ever.

considering the fact the blazers have a recent history of renting vets at the end of their careers i wouldn't call it a waste. what is there really to lose? it might not be the most strategic move for the future but it's certainly isn't a bad one.

you have to at least have the pieces for a team that can win some games now to show free agents because they're going to want to contribute to what's already there and not be a building block. you want them to see your vision. small market teams like portland, cleveland aren't quite there yet and i think that's why they have trouble drawing in free agents.

Like I said, wasting money and a roster spot. He played well this year but we need to think long term. And do you remember how renting vets turned out?

    I want to

    Draft Gogui Dieng

    Sign Ronnie Brewer

    Sign Dejuan Blair

    Sign Jermaine O Neil

Sign a SG (Nick Young, Gerald Henderson, Reddick if we have $)

how renting vets turned out? those guys were never superstars, paul pierce is still producing. he can still help this team statistically. he's not a juwan howard or jared jeffries who were role players at best in their day. in all honesty i'd rather have a tony allen type player but if that fails pierce is still a decent option.

i would absolutely love dejuan blair. i wanted the blazers to draft him a few years ago but his knees were an issue at the time. and i would welcome jermaine o'neil back with open arms, somehow it just seems fitting.

I think because Pierce is a guy who can close out games and can still score in the clutch he would be a welcomed addition to our young squad. He is a low maintenance guy and is a former finals MVP. If we get 14/5/4.5 out of him the he would definitely be worth it for 5mil. He showed when Rondo went down that he can handle the ball and still be a good scorer. We could get 2 years out of him if we manage him correctly.

Pierce is a legend and will be a inducted into the Hall of Fame for sure. I'd love to have his veteran presence and championship mentality in our locker room.

This past season the biggest problem was that we had 5 players that did the majority of the scoring for this team and the bench didn't produce or defend at all.  This coming season the Blazers are going to need production from both the first and second units, and they are also going to need to do a better job defensively on both ends of the floor.  If we got a player like Paul Pierce to join the Blazers, then the team as a whole would get better.  We need to be looking for pieces that will complement what we already have on the team.

I completely agree. Pierce would bring a culture change. And we as a team really needed someone to help our young players through the tough times. Jeffires and Pavlovic were veterans who didn't see much court time and from what I saw didn't really bring that helping hand to our young guys. Pierce, on the other hand, will bring a winning mentality and vocal leadership to our locker room. That will only serve to make our young players and even our more experienced players better. LA and Wes need another guy who they can look up to right now. Pierce will provide that.

Hes a guy who takes big shots, guards the oppositions best wing more often than not and again, is a former finals MVP!!! If it takes 6-8 million a year, then I say go for it.

I completely agree he could be that voice on the court we need. Lamarcus just isn't that guy and Damian can learn some on court leadership from him. A small lineup when we need a score bad of Dame, Wes, Paul, Nic, and Lamarcus would be potent.
