Is Lamarcus Aldridge a Portland guy? I've always thought of him as loyal. But is he really a loyal Portland guy? During the All Star break, he said:

"I definitely want to win that championship so I'm definitely listening to everything everybody says. I definitely enjoy being in Portland, I love the city. But things might come to an end one day and when that happens, I'll listen then."

    Thoughts?

3rd highest income tax in the country, he is from Texas which has three teams, terrible weather 8 months a year, and a team that has not made it past the first round since 99-00.

Adding Lillard helps but I am not sure it will be enough to ultimately keep him in town.

That's just LaMarcus being practical. He has time and time again stated that he wants his jersey in the rafter next to John Lucas and a championship banner. If the team contends in the next two years it'll have a great impact on his decision. His hero is Tim Duncan and they have both stated they want to be with the same team for the duration of their careers. Look at Patrick Ewing ending his career bagged in ice on the Sonics bench after a great career as a Knick, really a bad move. Same with Karl Malone going to the Lakers, he should have retired with the Jazz and called it a day. Moving doesn't always end in success.

Terrible weather is subjective. We don't have blistering heat, tornados, blizzards, sub zero temperatures, mosquitos as big as your hand. yeah we pay taxes but is it better to live in Detroit or Cleveland? You save the most money in Florida but your house might end up in the ocean.

I am mostly referring to the amount of sunshine but in comparison to places like Phoenix if you can stand the heat, So Cal or South Beach or weather just does not stack up. Then again maybe he likes the rain.

Biggest issue though hometown in Texas and Oregon 9.9% income tax vs 0% for Texas that is asking the man to give up around 1.5 million a year.

Duncan was making 22 million a season with 0 income tax, Kobe makes 27 plus the Hollywood endorsement market, neither gave up any money with the exception of this years Duncan to remain loyal. Plus both won NBA titles, LA has had no playoff success.

Never understood why they need that much money in the first place. And it rains a lot in Portland right? I'm used to that. Does it snow? Never seen snow fall.

Lamarcus seems very Portlandia. I think he will stay here for atleast another contract.

Duncan gave up money to keep Ginobli on his team. They both got huge contracts long before the CBA kicked in. The times are changing but I'd bet they both stay on one team their entire careers. Both players have also played with their teams for a lot longer than any Blazer has been here. Both had very deep rosters that stayed for those championship teams with a system in place. Neither team had a Greg Oden, Brandon Roy disaster to set them back in their primes. Both players won championships with coaches that developed teams for many years so that they knew the playbooks inside out. Completely different situations. My personal feeling is that LaMarcus is a loyal guy and actually loves the Blazers. Time will tell. LaMarcus two allstar seasons have been with two different coaches, two completely different rosters. Duncan and Bryant have not had to weather that except Kobe this season and we've seen the results of the Laker dynasty. LaMarcus is rich enough to retire tomorrow and never work again. Money is not everything when you've got lots of it.

Along that line, I'm an Oregonian, live here, shop here, vacation here, work here, own my home here and love it. I'm not sure if you're an Oregonian cmeese but with your arguement in favor of Texas, why don't you live there? Maybe you do, I wouldn't know. I prefer Cedar trees and clean water to tumbleweed and oil derricks.

My personal feeling is that LA wants to win a championship and in 2 years when his contract expires will go to a team that is contenders

Portland will be able to pay LaMarcusand  give him the best contract when his current one is up, just like the Lakers can give Howard more money than Houston. I hope we win the west next year and stop all these rants about how we're going to fail and the idea that other franchises are so much better going forward. Our players don't believe it, I don't know why so many fans do.

He's not LeBron. I don't think he'll leave, and if he does he won't leave Portland high and dry. If he wants to leave when his contract's up, I honestly would expect a sign-and-trade so the Blazers get a really good return from him. He doesn't have the arrogance and sense of entitlement that some superstars have shown. He could very likely finish out his career in Portland and be happy doing so.

Weather and taxes are the dumbest arguments for an NBA player doing anything. LaMarcus is on the road 3 months out of the 6 month season. He lives in Texas in the off season, and he makes over 10 million dollars a year. Weather and taxes determine where you go when you retire, not where you play professional basketball. People are being facetious when they say players go to Miami for the weather and the property taxes. LeBron went there because Wade was there. Bosh went there because LeBron and Wade were there. Everyone else went there because Bosh, Wade, and LeBron were there. Or they're all addicted to Caribbean cocaine... what do I know? Professional athletes don't think about money and locality the same way working class people do. They think about winning and where they can do so. And some of them have loyalty and want to turn their original team into a contender.

Haha, nice on D_Pickett. Why didn't Stern veto that deal? There's just something about Lamarcus I like. No matter how good Lillard gets, Lamarcus will always be my favourite Blazer. He got that old school game.

While LA might not be leaving in 2 years I think Canzano is right at least looking at his trade value is not the worst idea in the world.

My perfect scenario: LA jersey in the rafters. (Of course this wish includes us winning a ring with him)

And B Roy coaching or announcing or something. That dude will always be my favorite player, no offence LA or Dame. And the love he had back for Portland was great, unmatchable.

thanks rip city, i have no idea it was so long ago.  i literally cried when we picked up dame. but does anyone else remember lamarcus having a no trade clause? he obviously wants to be here. i believe the organization owes it to him to build a winning team. he's went from tim drake to dick grayson. (if anybody gets that analogy) being a third option to first he's been in the thick of the struggle time after time. being a blazer fan is definitely a roller coaster ride. anything other than thinking BIG would be a great disservice to LA. he's one of the most underrated blazers of all time in my opinion. he's a complete player and will be around the league for awhile.
