Well we're in finding out mode now as to what next season will look like. Who goes and who stays? I hope we keep Maynor, Claver for sure. This is not a thread about what players to go for but which players to let go in a couple of weeks, the playoffs are in 14 days. A lot has been written here about JJ but I think he'll get an offer and either refuse it or decide he's home in Portland. I'm more interested in what folks think about Sasha, Freeland, Jeffries, Babbit, Smith, Williams and the other rotation players. To me our starters are solid and Leonard is a keeper along with Maynor and Claver.

waive freeland, sasha, jeffries, smith willaims, maynor, jj.

    sign reddick, o'neal, dalembert.

draft mccollum, russ smith and james southland cause he can be the next kyle korver of this league

    keep claver, barton.

    lillard/mccollum/smith

    wesley/reddick/barton

    batum/southland/claver

    aldridge/o'neal/claver

    dalembert/leonard

this team is perfect we have two defense big man that would block shot and rebound, they are both 7 footer or near that i think. defense win champ. gary payton will work with lillard on his defense this summer. so expect bunch of force TO''s and dunk

lolol if were gonna pick up mccollum then we should keep maynor in the back court cause mccollum is really just an undersized sg who can score not really a guy that can facilitate an offense

and honestly you would settle for dalembert? not saying he sucks or anything but theres gonna be bigs that are most likley gonna be on the trading block this off season teams are gonna want to shed cap room to go after howard or bynum honestly dalembert should be a fall back plan I think cmeese is right about gortat ending up on the tradeing block this off season even if they don't land either howard or bynum he's unhappy in phoenix and we could use jj and some expiring contracts to try and land him

Leonard, Maynor, Claver are all keepers and will be key components to a a bench next season. I also like Barton after what he has shown in the Houston Game. I think he is a keeper since he isnt making much money at all in NBA terms.

Positions 1-4 im sure are SET

All we need is a 6th man and a center and maybe another bench piece. I believe that CJ Mccolum can be that player for us. I have a strong feeling he will be the best scorer out of this draft class. With the 12 pick I would love to get someone who knows how to put ball in the bucket.

I really like Brendan Wright I think we should pick him up for cheap. He can play 4-5,r rebound, defend and shoots a very high percentage.

Center we can go a couple ways

draft mccollum. sign wright to a 3 year and 4 million per year. sign kaman to 3 year and 5.5 million per year. waive freeland. sign mayo to 4 year and 7.5 million per year. we instantly become 1-5 seed in west. trade both our 2nd round pick for combined 2 million cash.

    lillard/mccollum

    mayo/wesley/barton

    batum/barton/claver

    aldridge/wright/claver

    kaman/leonard

this team would be a GSW team. this team would have offense and defense everywhere. after mavs game, i realize maybe barton could a great 6th man for us. so it a tough decision by GM this summer

I don't think Mccollum can be a PG he is a 6'3 SG....reminds me of Jason Terry

If Barton can keep up decent numbers the rest of this season then maybe Portland trade their draft pick for a lower pick or pick up a big man that can play some Defense!

But I still believe that Mccollum will be a lights out scorer in the NBA........ But Barton might end up being a mroe of an all around player he has the Star Swag... Hes a great rebounder, very athletic, shown to be a decent passer, and can pick players pockets..... DL is right, the Draft will be a tough decision by Neil

mccollum will be a more productive scorer then barton will don't get ahead of yourself barton is still a couple seasons away from being consistant and will end up probably being a strong role player hopefully he can be a star but I'm not seeing it

    Why waive Maynor??

Yeah the chances of Barton becoming a star is low but he would great to have around as a backup 2/3..

I guarantee that Cj will average the most points that any rookie next season...

I just like how Barton isnt a jump shooter like every other wing on this team. He can increase the Blazers fast break points, points in the paint, rebounds, and FT attempts if he lives up to his potential and earns minutes

Thanks for chiming in guys but this thread is not about who to draft but who on the current roster stays or goes. Maynor is a keeper in my opinion. I wanted him before Lillard ever played an NBA game last summer. Barton just moved up a notch with his last performance too

    Stay - Leonard, Claver, Maynor.

Go - Nolan, Babbit, Sasha, Jeffries.

On the fence - Barton, Freeland, Willams.

I will say this if Barton continues his good play I would put Elliot on the go list because one important thing Barton has over Elliot is health and while Elliot has upside my concern is can he be healthy for a whole season to show that upside and improvement and as of right now I'm not willing to take that risk because he headed into his 4th season and I haven't seen enough to make me leave a roster spot for him he gonna have to really sell himself this off season.

As for Freeland I like some of the things I've seen from him my concern is he's about to enter into his prime years of the player he's going to be, question is will he improve enough to really help this team and be effective.

Stay - Obviosly Lillard, Mathews, Batum and Aldridge.

+ Leonard, Claver, Barton to the bench...

Going away - Smith, Babbit, Pavlovic, Jeffries and Williams.

On the fence - Freeland (probably traded or waived), Maynor (probably resign) and Hickson (Sign and Trade most probably).

     Needs:

    1st Starting Center

2nd Backup SG + Backup PF ( + backup PG if we don resign Maynor)

3rd Complete the roster with some rookies or veterans, 13/14 players are enough...

we can draft trey bruke, russ smith, and trade other pick for 1 million cash . waive freeland. which make it 15 million for FA. sign mayo to 4 year and 7 million per year. sign robin lopez for 3 year and 6.5 million per year. then sign chase budinger for 3 year and 1 million per year. sign o'neal for 3 year and 1.2 million per year.

    lillard/bruke/smith

    wesley/mayo/barton

    batum/budinger/claver

    aldridge/o'neal/claver

    lopez/leonard

this team is better in addition then what we lost. this team would have one of the best back up PG AND SG AND SF AND PF AND C in every position. that mean our starter don't have to worry about score anymore like this year crappy bench produce

This is not the NFL you can't just waive people Freeland costs 3 million on the cap and will continue to do even if waived. However, if waived we will have to sign someone to replace him which will eat up even more cap. Best move is to trade Freeland for a second round pick or Euro stash player this will allow us to cut 3 million from the cap and give us a 3 million dollar trade exception or in other words we would get 6 million in cap space by trading him.

Getting a C will be our priority, so i think we will easily have a good substitute to JJ Hickson, altough he was an important piece for us this year...

Not trying to take anything away from JJ but there are several players that when give 30 minutes a night can give you 10 rebounds per night or close to it.

With regard to our other rotation players, I think its well established that they just didn't cut it this year. Nolan smith, Jeffries and Freeland are all goners as far as I can see. Trade Freeland and Jeffries for a solid backup PF or a defensive Centre. Leonard has earned his keep in recent weeks and so has Claver, so I think we have 2 good young back ups there. Now we need some experience in our locker room.

A good veteran presence to help guide the youngsters. A lot like what Jarret Jack has done in Golden State and what Derek Fisher did for the Thunder last year. David West has been more effective on the floor for Indiana but his guile and work ethic have helped them develop into a contender in the East.

JJs agent has stated that he will go elsewhere most probably so the best thing Olshey could do is a sign and trade with JJ for a center. It would need to be to a team he wants to play for.

Freeland got one or two run outs this season and hasn't ever delivered. He's definitely a goner and I'm quite disappointed because he showed greater potential when we decided to sign him. Maybe he's just better suited to tha European style. Dumping his $3Mil salary is going to be key to freeing up the cap space we need to get both a solid big man and a good scoring 6th man.

I think Freeland will be traded to clear cap space. Olshey will look hard to find a team willing ot take on Joels contract. We would probably have to send 3 million cash, and maybe some second rounders. But our cap space will go to 14 million i think with Freeland gone and with our #10 pick
