Trail Blazers (33-41) Vs. Grizzlies (50-24)

    What To Watch For

    Mike Conley's Impact
In their last matchup against the Trail Blazers, the Grizzlies held on for a 102-97 victory last month in the Rose Garden. It was a team win as Memphis had five players score in double-figures and received 28 points off the bench. But if was Mike Conley's 14 points, 15 assists, and timely steals (4) that pushed the visitors over the top. Every team has that one player that acts as an engine. When he's on, they're on. For the Memphis Grizzlies, that player is Mike Conley. And he's coming off a clutch performance against the Spurs in which he led his squad to their 12th straight home win. Not only did he hit the game-tying 3 with 30 seconds left, but the next possession down, he converted the game-winning lay-up en route to a team-high 23 points. While March Gasol and Zach Randolph give this Memphis team a deadly duo down low, it's Conley who needs to be stopped if defeating the Grizzlies is in the cards. But stopping opposing guards has been troublesome for the young Trail Blazers as of late. Steph Curry went off for 39 points Saturday in Oakland while Mo Williams had 25 Friday and backed that up with 20 the following Monday. It will be interesting to see if Coach Stotts throws Wesley Matthews or Nicolas Batum on Conley to disrupt his rhythm or even uses a trapping scheme at various times during the game.

    Pack The Paint
Gasol and Randolph, along with Ed Davis and Darrell Arthur off the bench, give the Grizzlies arguably the most talented quartet of post players in the NBA. And it's no secret that they work the offense, inside-out. They average 43 points in the paint -- 9th most in the league -- and rarely shy away from the game plan. But the Grizz are dead last in 3-PT field goals made (347) and they don't particularly shoot it well from downtown, either, hitting just 34.8% off all attempts which ranks 23rd in the NBA. Watch closely early on at Coach Stotts' defensive strategy. Is he willing to guard their bigs straight up or will he bring the double team and force Memphis to beat them from beyond the arc?

    *UPDATE*
LaMarcus Aldridge will miss his 4th straight game (ankle) and Nicolas Batum (arm) will also not play tonight against the Grizzlies. Meyers Leonard will continue to start at Center while Victor Claver will get the nod at Small Forward.

Minute for minute and dollar for dollar, I'd play Claver in front of Nic anyway, especially in lieu of the wrist and now arm injury.  LA will again be sorely missed.  Portland will need major contributions from multiple players to compensate for his absence.

Too many rookies going against a agreeive playoff contender. Not a chance, but at least the rookies will start getting some playing time to get the experience.

I am a fan of WES, the heart and soul of the Blazers.

I loved Freeland today. That spin baseline and dunk, BEAST. Claver continues to impress, and so does Leonard. Now if only Lillard had hit that dunk, when JJ grabbed the offensive board and the lane cleared and everyone was under the rim, he would be on every top 10 for a loooong time.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

Why are Lillard, Wes, and Hickson logging 40, 39, and 37 minutes respectively, in a now meaningless game in which Portland trailed from tip to horn and never found themselves in the game?  Is the risk worth the "reward"?  By the way...what exactly IS the reward now?  The worst possible thing to happen for this franchise is Dame suffering a major injury.  Take a moment and envision that scenario.  Not good.

With the signing of Maynor, the development of Barton, and Smith itching for opportunity...there is absolutely no reason for Damian to be putting in 40 anymore, particularly in a game like this.  The type of minutes he's played tend to have a cumulative effect on the body.  Stotts...what are you doing?

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
