I know I am going to get pummeled for posting this, but I think it is time we talk about Batum’s toughness.  His performance over the last month has been mediocre at best.  I think we are seeing the same Batum as years prior with an extremely inconsistent game.  Yes he had flashes in the beginning of the season of a much more consistent player, but since the last week of January he has been extremely inconsistent.

Now people are going to say well he has a wrist injury.  This is the NBA, suck it up and play.  Look at Wes Matthews who played through a sprained ankle and still contributed and mostly played with a lot of Heart.  Do we see that from Batum, not really!

I have to admit the first half of the season I was extremely excited as I thought Batum matured and developed into that player who was living up to his contract.  However that excitment has faded as has Batum's game.

I guess expecting NBA Players to live up and play tough and with heart to their large contracts is way too much to ask.

Wesley Matthews wasn't really playing that well with his injury. He's been good, not great recently too, but like all blazers, he might not hit a lot of shots, but he hits them when they count the most. Leads the league in clutch threes. Say what you want about his Matthews' defense, but Batum is the only player capable of guarding taller 2 guards and wing players. I did notice he tends to complain when he gets called for a foul, but he is only getting better each season. Every season, almost each stats gets better. Wesley Matthews is the type of player who is able to play through pain so he was able to be relatively productive during his injury. Batum will slump a bit during and after, but he is a solid player and is going to to be great for Rip City. Now we just have to try and keep JJ Hickson and not trade LA.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

Maniac...I am in agreement with the third paragraph of your opening post, however am mindful the season is not yet over and am reserving judgement on Batum until then.  That said, I am as interested in Nic's production game to game at this point, as any other Blazer and will be first in line to call him out at season's end should he continue to slide.

Batum was playing good until he got injured... he still plays a lot of minutes, but if you think, sometimes he may not shoot because he´s hurt, and he knows it would be better not to.

Consistency, he needs that word to define him. Otherwise, I'm sorry, but he's not playing up to his contract.

He only had 9 points last night, didn't play great D. This just after a couple games that we all felt like hey, maybe he's coming back to BAtumshakalaka. If he's hurt, sit him. If he can play, well then PLAY dammit. I believe in him, but I can't keep holding on to some idea of Batum that I have never, for a full season, actually consistently witnessed.

No I don't expect every game 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. But the drop off can't be so big. Show me something big guy.

Oh and btw, I truly, 100% believe the key to winning this road trip, & finishing the season with a strong playoff push, is Batum.

No question Batum has to show up for this team to have any chance being competitive.  Very disappointing that he can have negative xrays and MRI's but still be playing so poorly compared to the first 37 games of the season.  Also very discouraging to see him on the emotional roller coaster.  When he's on he appears dominant and un-injured.  When he's off, he's holding his wrist, wincing, and complaining to refs.  What's frustrating is not the lack of 17pt games.  It's the games where he is utterly absent that are killing this team.

I don't get playing the starters big minutes anymore at this point. I think it's time to put Joel Freeland on the court and see what big minutes can do for his game. Stagger the starters so the bench players get some good experience playing with LaMarcus. I'd like to see Leonard and Freeland get a chance at a double double. So far Freeland is a much better defender than Leonard. If LaMarcus, Wes or Nic get serious injury at this point it's going to be for nothing really. I still think we can win a chunk of games but last night was a huge effort for the same result as if we'd rested them. Is it worth it in the long run?

This is so true.  If we wants to be an all-star, he needs to quit reading his press clippings about his great games, and start worrying about how he is going to play consistent over an 82 game schedule.

His disapearing acts are killing the Blazers.  Come on Batum suck it up and Lead the team by example.

I agree, thre is no way we are going to make the playoffs.  Invert the playing time and let the bench have the big minutes and rest the starters.  It will only help in the long run!

OK, let’s look at the future of our franchise for the month of March including tonights disappearing act on production:

In 12 Games in March these are his stats:

    11 PPG

    5 Rebounds per game

    4.5 Assists per game

    1.5 Turnovers per game

    1 Steal per game

    1 Block per game

In 12 Games in February these are his stats

    12 PPG

    5.5 Rebounds per game

    5 Assists per games

    3.25 Turnovers per game

    1 Steal per game

    1.4 Bocks per game

Well, the stats don’t lie.  Same Batum if not worse, however with a huge bloated contract.  His no trade is up next season unless we can find someone to take him over the summer and free up more salary cap room.

If you watched any of the recent games you would see he all but stopped driving to the hoop or cutting. He settles for spot ups and one dribble pull ups. The only buckets he gets in the paint is the rare transition jam. He needs to be way more aggressive. Then his numbers will go up. Still think we should not trade him. Maybe give him less minutes and Claver a little more when he's back and if we are definitely out of the playoffs.

Claver developed more in Jan and Feb than Batum has all season.  He was starting to look comfortable in that rotation right up to the SA game.  Anxious to have him back and hoping he picks up where he left off.

I dont think batum is the future of our franchise,he is merely a piece,he's really just a all around roleplayer type, but yeah he does need to play alot better then he is

Doesnt matter if we bench him, he has not palyed consistent basketball since the middle of January.  I believe that is before he had the  fantom rist injury.

He is getting better, but has limited himself to spot up three pointers, and creating offence for other, which isn't really a bad thing. He just needs to be more aggressive. Now that we're out of the playoffs, give him less time, and give Claver 40 minutes or so.
