In case you missed it, the Trail Blazers acquired Eric Maynor from the Thunder at the deadline.
Maynor (6-3, 175) holds career averages of 4.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 14.3 minutes in 209 career games with Oklahoma City and Utah. He was originally selected out of Virginia Commonwealth by the Jazz with the 20th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.
But what can we expect from the fourth-year point guard out of VCU? Althought YouTube clips aren't the end all in terms of a player's value or production, they're still fun to watch until the real deal is ready to step onto the court, which could be as early as Sunday, at home, against the Boston Celtics. Here's a few clips I found online of Maynor and what he could bring to the squad this season.

Maynor displays nice court vision on the break

Eric has a knack for hitting long-range shots to beat the buzzer

He's definitely an upgrade over Nolan and Price. The kid's got guts. He'll do well at those times when he and Lillard are on the floor together.

Love the pick up we didn't lose anything and we get a young battle tested point guard to back up Dame and at times play along side him he know what it takes to win and with the knowledge he pick up from his time at OKC should be beneficial to us in the long run, this is a nice young piece to grow with our core.

Perfect piece. This is a big upgrade who will be able to score at will off the bench. I couldn't be happier with this move. Olshey is a bright man.

I see how Maynor is a step in the right direction but what I'm wondering how his play will translate in Stotts' system. Forgive my ignorance but 5 points a game doesn't seem like a huge scoring threat, even off the bench especially after a knee surgery. It doesn't seem enough to me. Not trying to be negative I just wanna know your thoughts on this.

I can't wait to see.. I know Portland, and I know that this city is going to embrace him, something that usually almost always boosts a player up when they are traded to here. On another note, not to take away from the excitement of this acquisition. But I'm wondering what this means for the future that to some fans seemed pretty unsure (JJ, Free Agency, Draft.) Seems like there is a solid plan. Obviously a plan that not everybody, at all times, comprehends.

Just wondering, can you have 2 players with cap holds that go over the cap? That might seem even dumber since I don't even know if you can even do that with just 1 player... haha. If anyone can answer this that would be huge, gives me an idea of what's possible.. I'm such a need-to-know-what-the-plan-is kind of guy lol     (BF, I'm hoping you can come in clutch like usual with this stuff)

I agree.  Maynor is a good acqusition that may spell relief to the starters so they can finish in a flurry.  Now if we just get another player who can spark a top of the game spark run to go with the strong finishing efforts that would be nice.

@ Unholy I don't see Maynor as a scorer per say even though he's capable I see him as a leader for the second unit when the second unit was out there at times they looked lost out there they had no direction and I think that where he gonna make his mark when I saw him with OKC when Westbrook was out the game they didn't lose their groove he keep the ship steady and made the right plays and that was lacking with our second unit he a guy who can talk to Barton to tell him to slow down when he's out there and other things like that since our bench is young I think he gonna bring a calm to them when things get tough.

Q-What to expect from Eric Maynor?
A-15 minutes a game, a 3/1 assist to turnover, a true leader with a high basketball IQ for that second unit, and by all accounts a genuinely nice guy off the floor.

Here is what i see from Maynor, Lob city between him and Myers it will be the Maynor Myers connection. Know in all truthfulness he will help Myers offensive game not much he can do for his defense but he will create opportunity's for Myers that our other point guards have yet to establish. Also when he is on the floor with Hickson it will be fun to watch. Huge upgrade from where we were.

A guy that doesn't struggle to get the ball up the court.  Fewer turnovers. More assists.  Better decision maker.

I love this move.  Relatively small QO to keep him restricted FA.  Back up PG for only 3 mil off the cap is awesome.  Center and back up shooting guard left to get.  I'm convinced the blazer plan on using Elliot as the back up 2.  That was the plan this year, and given that he is injured, yet Price was release instead, seems to suggest that he will be the back up SG.

Yeah Blazer Fanatic I completely agree if they didn't want Elliot now would've been the time to pull the plug, but I think this is his last chance to stay healthy. And if he works out that'd be great, I've always liked him and his potential.

Maynor is a game manager with great court vision.  His assets are a floater, a mid range jumper, and a three point set shot if you leave him open.  He will the three pointer about 38% of the time.

Give him a little time as he has not played on a regular basis since XMAS.

Thunder were 21-4 while he was the backup.

    18-10 after he was replaced.

Why was he pulled?  Jackson is more athletic and I suppose they liked his upside.

Stotts responded to questions in practice as if it were obvious that Maynor is the back up PG for Portland now.  Funny the question was even asked, but what else were they gonna ask?  How about those fouls lastnight?

I think Ronnie's age and ankles made him the guy to get waived over Elliot. Elliot has not played with a really good pt guard or had a real shot at the NBA level yet. Since we didn't extend his contract he can be signed cheap for next season and his upside is worth the risk at this point. He's a scorer who can create his own shot which Portland needs badly on the bench. Maynor is the bench catalyst..he protects the ball and he's an above average passer...something else we need. He'll make guys around him better by putting the ball where they need it. The 13-15 roster spots are not going to have as much impact as 1-12 we have solid rotation players. The conversation for upgrading in my opinion is 6-12 on the roster and we've got 1 of those taken care of now.

In his much anticipated debut, Maynor played 14 minutes, had 3 assists and one turnover en route to helping his new team snap a 7 game losing streak v Boston at home in the Garden. Welcome to P'Town EM.

Great game last night. For his first game with a new team Maynor was solid. Good passer, good ball control,  a little early to say but I think we have the back up point guard that this team has needed.

I disagree about waiving Elliot. He is potentially a significant contributor with significant upside, Price was not.

Elliot after only 1 practice was really solid in limited minutes. Elliot is a free agent in the off season so we did not extend him or Luke or Nolan. He can be signed and will probably come cheap. LaMarcus said last summer that Elliot is one of the most talented and athletic players he's played with...high praise. The front office obviously values him and I hope he comes back and becomes that 6 man off the bench for us. I'd give him another shot

That was the plan this year before his injury.  Can he be THE back up SG/6th man?  Let's hope.  If Barton and Williams can fill the back up SG, Portland is totally set to go get a solid big man to help Aldridge this summer.

Bowie was a liar who came in with knee issues that he neglected to mention. He admitted that he wasnt going to divulge that information because he was thinking of feeding his family. Oden was not only as brittle as a stale ritz cracker, he wasnt mentally strong enough to overcome his physical adversities. He just didnt want to be here and as a result, turned into an alcoholic that he had the audacity to blame us, as in our city for. Elliot on the otherhand wants to be here, wants to play, but just has had a string of bad luck. I think we'll keep him, sign him for cheap and he'll be what we expected him to be. A kid who is explosive off the bounce, jumps out the building, and is an energy guy that Maynor { if kept } will give a lot of lobs to. He can stand to polish his jumper, but other than that, i think he'll shine when he's healthy.

I think the real key for us this season and next is to develop the core we have and then get them solid defensive minded cover next season. Offensively, our starters are really good and it seems like they have found an identity in the Stotts offense. But our current bench aside from not carrying any scoring load, does NOT make consecutive stops. Maynor will help the offense but we need a BIG MAN who can protect the rim when LA and JJ step off the floor. Jeffries is not that guy and neither is Meyers Leonard at this stage.

I say we should go after a solid vet who can do what Marcus Camby did in his stay at the Blazers. Help on defense and pull down defensive boards. When we win the rebounding battle, we win most games!! Defense is the key to putting together solid playoff runs!!

Bowie like Nolan and Luke didn't draft himself. He had a 10 year NBA career and was actually pretty good for the Nets and Lakers after he left the Blazers. I don't hold his injury against him. Lots of NBA players mask pain to get minutes on the court or get a job. The Bowie stigma never really bothered me.

He may not be putting up the biggest stats (sans the 12 dimes vs. Minny)m but he has ran our second-unit nicely and along with improvements from Claver and Leonard, our bench isn't such a liability any more. I only wished we had picked up Maynor sooner, esp. at that price.

Maynor is making a case for himself, filling the long term need behind Dame...some of the improvement we're seeing from particularly Leonard, can be directly attributed to Maynor's presence.  As has been posted prior, Maynor is an excellent floor general and game manager and is showing just as much ability to facilitate, as he has demonstrated  ability to score.  Olshey can now narrow his focus, having one less need to address.

Organise the bench. Lillard is first PG for this team, no doubt. And in my opinion when Lillard and Eric play together that's affect the team positively. They can combine the team in offensive game. If Eric's avarage would be 10p, 6a for season it's enough. With a good PF ( from bench ) Maynor may rise more.
