Trail Blazers (2-1) At Mavericks (2-1)

    What To Watch For

Live By The 3, Die By The 3
This applies to both teams. As a team, Dallas is shooting .516 from downtown -- 2nd best in the NBA, while Portland is putting up a respectable .400 from behind-the-arc -- 10th best in the NBA. And it was the 3-point shot which helped power Portland past Houston on Saturday night as Matthews hit a game-tying 3 with under a minute to go, Lillard connects on two 3's in the extra frame and Batum added another in for good measure. Whichever team is able to dial it in from long distance should prevail.

    All-Star Aldridge
LaMarcus Aldridge has been fantastic so far in this young season, averaging 22.7 points and 9.7 rebounds through the first three games. And as we all know, Dirk Nowitzki is still out as he's still recovering from knee surgery so the focal point of Portland's offense needs to be getting LA the ball deep in the post. Given his length, height, and overall skill, Aldridge should have no problem getting off good looks against like the likes of Chris Kaman, Elton Brand, and Brandan Wright. Also, this is a close-out game as the Trail Blazers are wrapping up a three-game road trip. Aldrdige's leadership will be key in guiding this young team through the last game on the road. Nobody would have believed the Blazers could possibly be 3-1 after tonight when the schedule was released in July. But the opportunity is there and knocking. LaMarcus will be the first to answer the door and let it in.

We really need some bench production. The starters have been playing unreal but if one of them is off tonight, a reserve is going to have to pick up the slack. I've got a feeling it could be Will.

Don't ball watch, movement without the ball on offense is key. Mavs really stuff the paint on D. Got to go Ninja style and sneak behind them for easy baskets.

the chemistry of our starters is astounding, it makes me laugh that our team is already playing with such chemistry and a team like the lakers full of overpaid stars just assumed they'd win so they put in zero effort meshing pre season. work ethic > star power anyday. lillard already showed he's not a gerald wallace home court wonder but that he doesn't care what floor he's on, he'll hit big shots.

i look for batum to fix his offense tonight and hit the glass like he did in game 1. he's a crowd energy guy that is getting paid to bring it every night, i think he's welcoming the challenge, he's got a new attitude he didnt have previously, i think he's going to flourish.

pick to click tonight has to be aldridge, but i'd say second place will be batum and/or lillard.

Agreed with DHawes someone has to show up on the bench because in the last game the starters score 89 of the 95 points in the Houston game that's not good, I hope Sasha and Price our well enough to play and that Freeland get some burn and get us some points along with Luke, Will and maybe Claver.

We didnt not get it done on the defensive end. We have let others drop 30 on us, but we have to have a great night offensively. We just  didnt score baskets. We were suppose to take this game in the fourth but we only scored 12.  I think LA shuld have had more shots late game. If Dame didnt have a tough night shooting we could have won. They played better than us sadly.

2 fast break points. I think we had some tired Blazers tonight or something.

Back to the drawing board, 12 pt 4th quarters are really disappointing! Our starters need to come out punching in the first half of a game and win the end game. Tough road trip! I'm starting to hate the 3pt shot with no ball movement and offensive rebounds that end up in turnovers. I think OJ Mayo should have been double teamed in the 2nd half..it was obvious he just couldn't miss from downtown! We'll get them at home next time! Come on guys! Our assist stats were horrendous tonight!

y'know, when every ball that OJ Mayo and Chris Kaman throw over their heads goes in the basket, it's not your night.  we played tight and answered a lot of their pushes through most of the game.  we won rebounds.  Lillard was 100% from the line but our shot % was atrocious.  can't get it done that way.

Mayo was on fire, all I could say was Wow! The young Blazers made some nice runs, but down the stretch that was something that was hard to match! They need to work on closing the 4th, the hardest thing for young players.

Jermaine O''Neal, Drazen, Z-Bo, Sheed (I know he was already a star but still). Also Drazen was buried under Drexler and Porter.

What happens if we don''t win? Dwight will start his nonsense, we would be out a lot of money, and with no real talent to show for it. San Antonio and Memphis is proof that you don''t need superstars to win.
