Aldridge and Olshey had a talk......

According to Aldridge and Olshey, this was the crux of the meeting:
Aldridge will not be traded in the next two years, and the team will aggressively pursue an accomplished veteran this summer in free agency. "What I took from this meeting that made me more confident was that this isn't a total rehaul," Aldridge said. "He said we have young guys this year, but we have cap room next year, and we can bring in another older player, another good player, and that can help us get over the hump next year. He also said they still want this to be my team, for me to lead it, and that we aren't trying to get rid of you or trade you in the next year or two. That's the number one
     thing I wanted to hear.

Good- Aldridge will no be traded in the next two years. TAKE NOTE Olshey said the same thing to Eric Gordon- but he got Chris Paul in that deal. The only way LA leaves is if we get a all star.

Good- Olshey is looking for experienced free agents in FA.

Bad- Free Agency isnt the best this summer.

    QUESTION

Who Do you think we will target??

Tony Allen. He wouldn't demand a starting role and he's tough. He was also on the championship Celtics team and joined Memphis just as they began outperforming their expectations. He would be a killer mentor for Damian and Barton, plus we'll have new (possibly lottery) rookies this coming summer. None of the others on the list strike me as team-leader type veterans. Just decent players.

We may see action come the trade deadline this season as opposed to the free agent market next summer. There's not a guy on that list that I think will be worth tying up cap money that's not really old. Restricted free agents I think we learned, just tie up cap money and drive up a players value aka Batum, Harden etc..We have two guys stashed in Greece that are supposed to be really good players from the knicks Felton trade deal. Kevin Martin would be an interesting piece in that he's a volume scorer but that's all he brings. Michael Redd is unsigned as well and like Kevin Martin but ..well old! Tony Allen is not a game changer either. By allstar break we'll see who's upping their game and not getting paid.

I hate to burst your bubble Siccolo, but you've been misled a bit...

the article that you're quoting from came out recently, but the INTERVIEW that it is written off of actually came out for this LAST summer, when Olshey was just hired and we had not yet found our new coach, Terry Stotts.

While it's still true that Neil did indeed tell LaMarcus that there are no plans to get rid of him, everything you're talking about as far as "pursuing a big free agent" is the talk that led up to us pursuing Roy Hibbert!

I'm not saying that we won't pursue a free agent this summer as well, but I just don't want you to be thinking that there are already plans in the works at targeting certain UFA's this next summer... it's not wrong info (we pursued Hibbert and almost got him, and kept Batum), but it's just misleading as far as the timeframe!

In the words of Olshey, what free agent is available that actually " moves the needle " ? A mentor for Leonard is all im interested in. Al Jefferson is the only one that makes sense. Only if we can steal him. Babbitt and Jeffries to me are the only true expendables. Sasha Pavlovic can play the game and knows his role. He may not be a better shooter than Luke, but he's tougher, smarter and doesnt freeze in the headlights.

Oh I didnt know that quote was from last summer....it makes sense tho....leads up to Hibbert.

But if we do pursue a FA ( Which i think we will) I think that Demar Derozan will not be resigned by Toronto. He can be a good addition... likes to run the floor- would be nice combo with Dame.

I think OJ Mayo would be a good guy to bring in also.

Pekovic, Mozgov, and Big Al should be looked at also.

If we get a veteran big man, he needs to be a defender. Period. Our best offensive player is a post scorer, but our paint is wide open for the taking. Me no likee.

Al Jefferson makes sense to me too, but is OJ Mayo really gonna be available next summer? I'm just thinking that this team is gonna be improving alot over the course of the season, and if Stotts and Canales can really teach these guys some legit D, another strong big might not be the only way to go... either way, bringing in a player that would allow us to bring JJ and/or Wes off the bench for a real scoring punch should be the ultimate goal. Our bench is obviously going to be the weakest link this year and there won't always be nights like this from all our starters!

Very true ^^^^. Wes and JJ off the bench would give us a strong second unit.Price and Wes in the backcourt gives us solid defense. Claver and Sasha are going to have to be big for us in order for our bench to be decent.

Barton has some potential he is too thin at the moment. He is also a little out of control at times, which he improved a lot as the season we on. His shooting though was just dreadful at times which is why I pushed for him to go to the d league so...

joint option for year three at like 8 million. Then if he works out you got him for a bargain for 2-3 years and if not it costs only 1.2 million for next year.
