What does the Kevin Love injury mean for Portland?

I believe that Minnesota is in for a rough start with this loss.  With Love and Rubio licking wounds, the first quarter of their season will be a bust for this club.  This may be a blow that effects them throughout this season. We know as well as anyone that it takes time to redevelop chemistry when a guy gets back from injury.  The pressure is on and Love has stated his intentions if things don't pull together there by the end of this season.  I believe this may give us a leg up on Minnesota for cellar dweller in the division this season.

So many others have benefitted from Portlands injury misfortunes.  I like Love as a player and all, but I'll take whatever break we can get.  Minnesota comes to town on Nov 23rd, so he will probably still be out for our first meeting with them.

What it means is that Brandon Roy is going to put alot of miles on his knees early and often to try and make up for the scoring deficit Minnesota is going to have with the absence of their best rebounder and scoring threat. It also means that a window of opportunity just opened up in the NW division. And we better take advatage of it. Last night showed us what Denver looks like without Ty Lawson. God forbid they lose him for any stretch of time this season. Coby Karl showed me something last night. He's solid under pressure. Thats not good news for Nolan. Claver had a good night also. His shot looks fluid. He had at least two threes that rimmed out that were down.

It means that OKC is still in the NW Division, so Portland can't win it. It also means this is not the NFL, so playoff spots are given based on conference rather than division, so Portland can't squeak a wild-card spot out of it. Finally, it means that a team that was clearly better than us is maybe below our level until their players come back. Then they're better than us again. I don't see why this is such a big topic of conversation; like I said, it's not the NFL.

Yeah CT...that's true.  Roy will get a trial by fire for sure now.

Well pickett...you nailed most of it.  I don't think anyone's saying we'll dethrone OKC.  Or that we'll even make the playoffs.  The debatable part of your statement is the "then they're better than us again" part.  My point is that this may end up having season long repercussions for a division rival that looked to be somewhere above us from the get go before this...and now, they may be struggling up until midseason to recover.

It is what it is.  This is the blog world where we hyper-analyze everything...and it seemed noteworthy to me.

This is noteworthy. How we capitalize on this is another matter. If our starters can't produce better than 35% from the field  than I think it is moot and maybe they just keep the cellar warm for us until they get healthy

If Kevin Love was a Blazer, I could see this having an effect. But since K-Love is on the Timberwolves, I don't think it will have an effect. Our team needs to worry about the game they play next. Not where the teams are in the standings, and not what Minnesota is doing to fill the gap of their All-Star PF.

It means LaMarcus will not be able to destroy him early in the season

Good point, bailblazers. If anyone knows that the effects of an injury last longer than the injury itself, it's us. And there is some noteworthiness, considering it's a Western team, and we can use as many Western Conference wins as we can get.

I do agree with Tobyus though. It's gotta be a Blazers-first mentality.

Fer reelz!  If a division rival caught the injury bug from us...oops, our bad!  XD  Would rather see Lakers or Heat decimated by injuries, someone who really deserves it.  T-Wolves have to work hard for what they get like we do.

I believe it affects the Jazz more so than us. This could be the leg up the Jazz need on the Wolves to get back into the playoffs for the second straight season. Don't get me wrong, I want to make the playoffs as much as the next person, but our bench just isn't strong enough. Now if we had E-Will healthy and in the fold...different story as I believed he was due for a breakout season.

Yes, the Jazz are a year ahead of us on depth building, but  they are also an all-star behind us.  E Will injury was a huge blow and may have been the link piece that earned us a playoff birth.  Maybe Will-Bart will put that development time to good use for us in his place?

If we played them every night we would be in the playoffs, as it stands we will be in the lottery again this year which is a good thing. picking 10+ would mean our pick goes to Charlotte due to G. Wallace. I believe our 1st rounder is lottery protected but I am not positive.

Yeah, he was tripping with that Scottie Pippen reference. Nowhere as good as him, BUUUTTT, I think he can be, if he plays like a man. In Euroleague, you are taught more about finesse, and the fundamentals. He needs to put a little more muscle on, ...
