In a lot of trade talks everyone one in the MB want draft picks. Why do you want draft picks lol?? Its not that because I dont watch college ball, but
In every draft there are only 2-3 star players in it. Maybe.
There are like 3-4 good players that can be starters in NBA.
What IM trying to say is that there are only 5-6 players in every draft that are good.
Why would you want to trade good starters/stars like Aldridge, Batum, Matthews for draft picks!

Looking at our past drafts we havent really had good ones besides this one, and the one in 08 and 06. I look for proven players if we are looking for new additions. Dont want any draft picks unless it is a guarantee its gonna be top 5. Maybe only Top 3.

    Your Thoughts??

Im a fan of wise moves. Draft picks are not just bodies, they're assets. Sometimes you get lucky. And i do mean Lillard. We just got a few more assets from NY. A couple of Eurostashes,a future pick,Jeffries and Sasha. Lets say for instance that Atlanta needs a sg/sf,they contact us and say, give us Wesley and Sasha and a first round pick and we'll give you Josh Smith. We say deal, but make it a second round pick and we'll throw in some cash and Claver. Of course this is just a scenario, albeit an unrealistic one, but you see where im going.

I agree with CT and TS. I also think that you trade up to get a top 5 pick if possible because I feel like you do with the low quality in most drafts. I reason I think we trade Wesley prior to next draft is that he has the talent to return a lottery pick by seasons end, I think next drafts top 8 will be better then Wesley and we have incredible backup at sg - Batum and move Barton to sf. We have no 1st rounder next draft, at the moment.

I think your number is very low. 2008 draft 9 out of the first 10 picks are starters. There are also at least 10 more starters that were drafted later.
2009 had 7-10. With at least 8 additional starters.
    2010 had 9-10. With 4 more.

Getting a lottery pick especially a top 10 pick pretty much guarantees a starter. So if you cant trade one of your players for multiple lottery picks you are getting two -three starters for one.

Adding 3 starters for the price of one star is something low profile cities like Portland must do to compete in the new 3 superstar format.

I was talking about the lottery......so your telling me everyone wants draft picks from non-lottery teams!?!?!? THere are only 3-5 players that are great that are chosen in the lottery. (Max 7) You have to be lucky to find one of these guys outside the top 14. And obviously Portland isnt one of those teams (Babbit, and Smith)

Portland has had terrible drafts for sooo long.
    2012 Draft
    2006 Draft
were the only good drafts in the last 10 years. Maybe

Lottery picks have a lot of value, but I would agree we do not have a great track record.

People love to gamble. Draft picks are just that, a gamble or chips to be cashed in. Seeing that I"m not a gambler, I prefer building things myself instead of winning something for very little effort. This is the mentality that makes some fans want to tank a season to move up the board. Some legendary players were not high draft picks and even more very high first round picks didn't pan out. Wesley Mathews is a case in point. Great quality player who didn't even get drafted. Just being over 7 foot tall will land you in the top 20 even if you couldn't throw a basketball in a swimming pool or hold onto a pencil without dropping it. All the past moves made by this organization are just that....past moves. This season is a new chapter, a blank page, an opportunity to do something special. Neil Olshey impressed me most when right after he was hired, he said he wanted players here who really wanted to be part of Blazer culture and long term. Sold me immediately on the direction he maps out for success. I like our team and staff, one game at a time and it's going to be fun to watch it unfold.

Every great player in the game has come out of the draft. Multiple picks means multiple chances at the next superstar.

Well I for one think Wes is a great player and my point was that many great players were drafted in the 2nd round. I still think it's a crap shoot. Clyde Drexler didn't get drafted by the team he won a ring with..

And because it's our only means to finding a franchise player. Who is the last big-name free agent Portland has signed? I don't think we've ever signed an All-Star, in their prime via free agency. Technically, we did ink Hibbert (which is a GREAT sing of things to come) but unfortunately he was restricted. Walton, Drexler, Petrie, and Porter all were found in the draft. For a small-market like Portland, that's why we need to place a higher value on rookies than most other teams. Judging from Summer League, we're off to a great start.

First need is a centre. And no one will take ten and 13 for 4th or 5th. After like the 10th pick the talent off is huge.
