Serge Ibaka Reaches 4 year/ $48 million deal with Thunder via Woj
This deal leaves the future uncertain for guard James Harden, who could command a maximum contract on the league market as a restricted free agent next summer. Along with the remainder of Kendrick Perkins' three years and $27 million, the small-market Thunder will be hard-pressed to invest so much money into their payroll.
In his third NBA season in 2011-’12, Ibaka averaged 9.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game. He’s one of the league’s best rim protectors, and been rapidly developing his offensive game. Ibaka was a key player on Spain’s silver-medal-winning Olympic team this month in London.
Smart move to lock him up now rather than to let him to test the open waters, which would have resulted in a $50+ million deal, in my opinion. One player down for OKC, one more to go. I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't get a deal done with Harden before the season starts either. You don't want to have the uncertainty of a contract looming over the team as they try to defend their Western Conference Crown. On the plus side, nearly all of their money is tied up into four players. On the down side, those four players are young and really, really good.

I wouldn't go that far. He's got a nice mid-range jumper and is arguably the best shot-blocker in the game but his post defense is underwhelming (hence why OKC has to put Perkins on Aldridge instead of Ibaka). He's a glorified role player. $12 million is a season is too much but better $12 then the 13 or 14 it might have been had he tested the open market.

Ibaka is key to the teams defense his shot blocking allows Durant, Westbrook and Harden to all play up on their men and jump the passing lanes.

Harden will not get an extension in my opinion he would run the salary to 83 million next season and guarantee the Thunder were always in the luxury tax. I think OKC will be looking to find a cheaper alternative to Harden.

83 million in salary plus another 30 million in taxes is a lot of money. Especially in the OKC market. Not to mention that number will only rise with the increases in salaries for Durant, Westbrook and likely Harden each year. If their payroll reaches 90 million which is possible the team would be looking at a 95 million dollar tax bill.  This is why OKC will not resign Harden.

yeah I agree I dont think that the Thunder know that Harden is going to get a Max Deal....

Eric Maynor is also a free agent next year. Unless he signs for a very low amount then he is going to be going somewhere else (maybe here :D) so that leaves them with almost no bench or support at PG and SG

Alot can be learned from observing the OKC situation unfold.

Also, I'd much rather sign Ibaka's check than Nic's.  Paying for proven vs paying for potential.

I guess Batum would be a good fit since Ilysavoa plays 4 more than the 3, which I didnt know lol

I think this would be a really good deal for Bucks then. They can draft Dieng with the 10 and maybe Franklin with their pick.

You''re right. They should dump Monta though. I was thinking maybe the Rockets could use the number 1 pick to get the lakers to do a sign and trade for D12.
