Go back and watch the first summer league contest and fast forward to the late game three Dimes nailed.  No other single play in Vegas, including that posterization that got the buzz, spelled "it" better.  I got chills (and still do) watching that.

Damian Lillard on getting in touch with LaMarcus Aldridge: Yeah, I've spoke to him like another teammate. We have each other's phone numbers and we text and we talk. Right now, all we want to do is get in the playoffs. That's the been the main thing we've talked about, is trying to get into the playoffs, because everybody is counting us as a young team. It might take us one or two years. But we saying, 'Why not right now?' Look at Oklahoma City: People said the same thing about them. Maybe not the championship, but why not make the playoffs now? We on the same page as far as winning. Salt Lake Tribune

Sorry, long-time, no post but I was thrilled with what I saw out of Damian (hence the avy change). I really don't see any Westbrook in him. Russ is on another level when it comes to athleticism and speed while Lill shows a better feel for the offense. I really think this kid is our next Terry Porter. He can shoot from any distance, finishes strong at the rim and has the leadership qualities that TP possessed when he was here (team captain). I also see a lot of Billups in his game as well and every once in a while he'll show a glimpse of D-Rose (ie the jam against the Hawks). So in short..Porter/Billups/Rose is what I see out of Lillard so far.

Great assessment. And the other thing i find appealing about this kid is that he's in no hurry. He's what i like to refer to as an Old Soul. Do yall know what i mean ? Like he's been here before. With his feel for the game, his laid back pace, picking the spots where he explodes, is going to add major miles to his longevity odometer so to speak. Hes not as erratic as Westbrook, nor as athletic as Rose, what he does posess is an uncanny ability to get to where he wants on the floor. When you can do that, defenses collapse, and someone is definitely going to be open. There will be times where L.A. and JJ are going to be on the floor at the same time. And with LA's silky jumper and JJ's ability to dive to the bucket and finish with authority, we're going to wreak havoc on defenses. Rip City Baby !!!!!!

after watching replays i definitely dont like a westbrook comparison, westbrook is a completely different player, he relies on ridiculous quickness and athletism. the thing that stands out about lillard is he just does the little things perfect, his pump fakes, his foot placment, everything is well thought out. if i had to draw comparisons he reminds me a lot of bradon roy actually, just plays a different position due to his height, seems more methodical than just raw pure athletism. that means he has a high basketball IQ, unlike a blake griffon who will decline dramatically with an injured leg or old age. guys with high IQs last longer, look at tim duncan, im excited to see him develop.

What I really like from Damian isn't his athleticism or shooting ability, but his work ethic and his drive. He wants to be the best player he can be, and he has no illusions about what that takes. He is a gym rat and 100% coachable. That unfortunately isn't the case with a lot of these young guys with loads of potential. They think they can make it on pure athleticism. Damian has no illusions about what it's going to take for him to reach his potential.

I concur. More of a merger of Andre Miller's savvy, and Chaunceys shot. Not fast, but quick. I hate comparing him to folks, but he is a ballin gamer thats for sure.

Damian Lillard reminds me of many of the best rookie PG's I have seen in the past.

Right now I will say he is a high quality rookie PG that can hit a shot at will, sees the floor very well, But as yet he is unproven vs. top caliber defensive PG opposition. I believe he will perform far above average, but that is only speculation on my part. I want to admire a work ethic from him that proves no matter the outcome of this first season, he is here to stay and will do whatever it takes (from an effort standpoint) to become the best he can be as well as the leader of this team. I wish we hired a talented old PG like Kidd or even Stockton to mentor and to teach him what they know, either on the floor or from a coaching position. As it sits now he is on his own without a mentor and I think that was a huge over-site by Blazer management.

I don't know, mbmurr, I wouldn't rule out Ronnie Price as a good challenging mentor. He will light a fire under Lillard in practice and bring some experience and intelligence into games when Damian's rookie side is showing a bit too much. Price has never been a big-minute man, but he always has a solid contribution when he is in the game. Same story with Jeffries/Leonard. I liked the moves because they are good mentors for low prices.

Well yeah, Ronnie Price has a brain, he knows what he can and can't do. Obviously he is nothing more than a career backup PG, but a valuable one. Flynn was just too much run and gun out of control rat baller. Kinda like Barton is now. You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't have a brain to go with it, it's all for not.

I'm not saying Barton has no brain or anything, but he needs to learn to control himself, I'm optimistic that he will.

Lillard's game is similar to a fusion of Derrick Rose's and Deron Willliams': the outside shooting and scoring of Williams mixed with the finishing ability and athleticism of Rose. Lillard is actually a lot closer to Rose athletically than you might think: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Derrick-Rose-1068/
    http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Damian-Lillard-6152/
But Lillard also has a bit of Mike Conley in him: every year Conley makes great strides in at lesst one aspect of his game, last season he leapt into top five in the NBA in steals. With Lillard's work ethic expect similiar progress from him between each season. Lillard will turn weaknesses into strengths and I would be surprised if Lillard isn't one the top defenders at PG by the time his rookie deal is up.

Again, as much as i hate comparing this kid to someone else, the original Isaiah Thomas is who he reminds me of. Gets to where he wants to on the floor, splits pick and rolls with ease, and is probably a better shooter than Thomas was in this stage of his career.

Not very many in the game today are as explosive as Westbrook. The way that boy stops on a dime and raises up... his vertical on his release is ridiculous. Simply explosive. Lillard on the otherhand has a old soul feel about him. Smart, under control, lulls and then exposes creases. Im  proud of that boy. We're about to do the damn thing this year but yall dont hear me. Riiiiiiiiiiiiippp Ciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiity !!

Ha that funny Common my mother says the same thing about Lilard that he has an Old Soul about his game and I think that right there is gonna pay off huge for him because there isn't that many guards in the league that have that and that's gonna make him less injury prone because he won't rely on his athleticism he'll rely more on his smarts.
