I'm looking for 2-3 moderators to help out with the message boards (ie: handle trolls, edit posts for inappropriate content, keep the topics..well on topic, make sure everything continues to run smoothly).

If you are interested in becoming a moderator, please send me a message on reply to this thread stating you would like to be up for consideration.

There will be perks for being a mod. What are they? That I'm not sure of yet, but it will definitely be worth your while.

Lets put some people in place who we all unanimously agree will do a good job. Personally, i think one spots has to go to cmeese. The other should go that woman. Her name escapes me but she's bright as hell when it comes to the Blazers. Two entirely different personalities, but both love the Blazers.

I'm not interested because I know I can't devote much time to this site once my fall schedule begins. However, I'll put in my two cents (if you're familiar with me, you'll know I HAVE to). New mods should be very mature and good at handling conflict. DHawes, I think I would consider arguments and attacks made by people that may become moderators. Just make sure you're considering people who can edit/intervene with a cool head. Good luck in the search, and good luck candidates!

Side note: can we find a new coach this way? Just post to the forum and see who applies?

Woah, woah, woah. DLW-3, sorry man but that's a bit over the line.

Just because you may have been offended by some of Cmeese's posts (especially without context) has nothing to do with his ability to be a moderator.

This is what I was trying to point out above with the comment about not making this a popularity contest; it's not about who you like most, or agree with, or think is kid friendly enough (besides, a fan's post is OBVIOUSLY very different from a moderator's post), so looking back on some conflict a certain poster may have had in the past and not represented themselves to the best should not necessarily be measured against their ability to moderate the boards.

Yes, I assume the job would be about making sure that no posters become too aggressive/offensive/insulting of others, but that does not mean the same as dictating what kind of passion can be expressed (as long as said expression doesn't cross any of those above lines).

In all fairness, this isn't a kids site! Same mistake gets made at the Rose Garden alot too, it may be a family-friendly event (just like a fair or festival) but that does not make it an under-18 event (just like a fair or festival).

Personally, while you may be offended (or just being defensive of your children) from certain posts by Cmeese, I'm offended when any poster (like yourself) turns their argument to not being about the Blazers, and instead makes critical comments of others like "sorry, but your ego gets in the way". Personal attacks, especially without some prior disagreement on the thread that led up to it, are far more corrosive to the forums than occasional inflammatory language.

Yeah, I didn't mean for that to spark a targeting of specific users. I was simply saying to be wise in the selection of new moderators. In fact, it was that kind of comment that I was referring to. We don't want people that will step on specific users' toes just because they have some kind of vendetta or ongoing argument.

I was not warning against any specific user. I just figured I should make my voice heard in a forum that I really enjoy.

I will admit that some of posts are inflammatory that is the point of some of them. I wanted to troll the forums a little bit to get responses when things become slow. Obviously I know the difference between what I will be allowed to do as a fan and as a moderator. Giving up the ability to troll is one of the sacrifices I am willing to give up.

I think we need to keep an open mind and let our fellow fans speak their minds as long as there is not language that is overly offensive. A word here or there that makes a point should be overlooked as long as it is not a habitual overuse of foul language. Personal attacks should not be allowed but corrections/differences with or to someones view point should be encouraged. All of our opinions should be open to change, with the right, knowledgeable criticism. UPRISE TO FANS and ROLL ON BLAZERS.

Honestly, I think people are too easily offended. That is by far my biggest issue with American sports. In America there is expectation of polite behavior at sporting events, especially basketball games, where fans are asked to quell their passion and behave in order to maintain a family atmosphere. I do not pay a large amount of money each year to attend live sporting events to be told to sit down or stop cursing at the refs. I could only imagine that happening during a European Soccer match, there would be a riot.

The fan forums should work in the same manner they should be full of impassioned people who want to talk about their team the good and the bad. As long as the forums can maintain focus on the team and avoid personal attacks then they are working perfectly.

I think Jim Rome said it best, "Have a take and do not suck."

You're exactly right, and that's how this forum is working. However a moderator is one that will be able to keep control of the boards, and definitely not add fuel to the fires.

Just like most forums, there's no money involved. But unlike most forums, there will be some pretty excellent perks. In fact, I just had a meeting about some of the cool things we are looking to provide to our mods.

There's nothing better then a passionate post or an enthusiastic fan. But we really have to watch our language on the boards. This is a site run by the Trail Blazers so you can have a great take just choose your words wisely when doing so.

Common - Your name has been added to the list. I still hope to have a decision made by August 8th.

I think we may have to create a blog just to allow venting. I also agree all the political correctness in America takes away from how individuals really feel. Personally I like when other people react either negatively or positively about any of my blog's, I think the reactions are the reason I like to put my thoughts and feelings in this forum. I hope whomever the new moderators are that they are not forced to shoot individuals down for their thoughts unless they are overly offensive, but for the language they might use alone within those blog's.

Sweet lord, I created a monster... Until I opened my fat mouth, this was just a bunch of members trying to be moderators; now it's some kind of anarchist rally. Not that I'm against a little anarchy. ;)

Anyway, I see the need for moderators because the nature of internet message boards. I don't think anyone is talking about policing or true censorship, but there's a level of cordiality that this site upholds, and I appreciate that. I can be downright foul talking to my friends, but I like to talk about sports and the Blazers without hatred, death-threats, spam, pornography, etc. getting in the way.

Speaking of... someone should check out the dozen posts about free satellite HD TV Olympic games (nudge DHawes). Our "Trail Blazers Talk" just got flooded with swimmers, volleyballers, and gymnasts. I see now why you're picking another mod. Lol.

Venting is great as long as its basketball related. Theres a fine line between insults and disrespect. The former should be kept to a minimum, and the latter be made unacceptable. I came on board because i am a diehard Blazer fan. Period. DHawes22 and BDawg are the OG's and as far as i know the pioneers of this thing of ours. And personally, i'll always regard them as the parents of this page. Im big on respect. I give it, i get it. I dont always agree with peoples opinions, but i'll always defend ones right to have one.
