J.J. Hickson has much more of a presence than Batum. Not only does he make the Blazers much better he keeps the fans cheering. The Blazers can easily replace Batum in the draft or in free agency. Why sign him for even $8 million? A high lottery pick will sign for $3 million! What do you think?

We lost 7 straight against teams playing their scrubs, with Babbitt in the starting lineup. Bad idea

I don't think Batum could be so easily replaced. He'll be going into his prime next year with no question to his starting position. Getting Gerald Wallace was a bad idea. He helped us make the playoffs one year, but it was still Batum coming into his own that got us in the position to be a 6th seed. He is a totally different player, a little timid in taking his shot sometimes, but he'll be more aggressive next year. Keep Hickson also, if he doesn't ask for over 5mil.

keep batum is good6-7 mil is too much for a backup for our all star, sign and trade for jj would be good, 8-9.5 for batum is good, and there is not as many good sf/sg in FA this off season, not easily replaced

Batum has been threatening to be in his prime for the last two years. He is so deadset on playing with Parker, and now Diaw, that if we dont ship him during the draft,i fear we will lose him for nothing. Package him with a pick and cash considerations for a point guard.

I am okay with letting Batum go as long as we get a long-term PG or Center in return. I think its time for the Blazers to seriously think big. None of this mid player acquisition crap. Batum and Matthews for Rondo would definitely make Danny Ainge's ears perk up especially since Matthews is five steps ahead of Avery Bradley and Paul Pierce isnt getting any better.

I've honestly been dissapointed with Batum. everyone keeps saying he's still young and needs time but lets face it, he's played four seasons and the majority of the games as a starter (GW played less than 62 games as a Blazer). Batum is too timid to create a shot for himself or others. He's an aggressive defender but his offense is extremely limited. I honestly don't think thats gonna change. I compare him to a younger Shane Battier. Highly respected and a great role player, but if we can use him to get a real all-star, lets do it now.

The man who can hit 9 threes in one game is limited on offense? The man who can almost fly to the rim is limited on offense? The only thing limiting him is the fact that he is too timid. I say he finds the man that people like to describe him as, Pippen, and get some pointers in the off season. Keep him if he is willing to put in the work.

What people aren't considering is that if we lose Batum we are in a real dilemma. As is, all we have to do is fill the void at Center and PG. If we give up on Batum we must fill SF also, and that would be difficult to do. We would have to give up on one of our other needs. 20-25 mil in cap space will go quickly. I don't think there is enough there to go for more than two major free agent signings. Plus, Batum is a big reason we might lure a major free agent here. He is considered a potential all-star. On the other hand, if Batum refuses to play at his highest level because he really wants to play in SA, then what can we do but trade him?

WScott is right we would have another position to fill but there are certainly options in the draft, trade and free agency that can be attained.

Batum is only valuable if he is wiling to give maximum effort. Him relying on his potential and talent will only lead to 14 points and maybe 5 rebounds a game and that is not nearly enough for this team to succeed.

I feel both jj and nic are huge partsof this team. I think we need to resign them and rihno and move la to the center and put jj in the starting lineup. Use our draft pick to trade with kurt thomas for jeremy lin resign johnny flynn and pick up chris kamen through free agency.

firstly, i think we should keep jj hickson at all costs! - i agree with mattman37 - and look into moving la to the centre. possibly trade batum- and somehow get rond... even if it means losing batum and matthews... having rondo out there will make the blazers a better team, he is one of those types of guys... dont get my wrong... i love nic batum, but the thought of rondo in a blazers uniform makes me all all warm and fuzzy - and being an aussie, i'd love to see matty mills back as a back up to rondo :)

    cmeese47-
How much additional salary cap space would we have if we let Hickson and Batum walk?

I think both could be overpriced this summer and there will be more affordable options out there. In Hickson, we could bring over Freeland for half the cost and there are numerous small forwards we could draft at a fraction of Batum's cost.

Dustin I would imagine we would be looking at least 17 million in extra cap space not resigning Batum and Hickson.

Which is fine but we damn well better get Ersan Ilyasova if we let go of JJ.
