I've been thinking a lot about the draft lately. One thing I know for sure is that we will be very active and I don't think we will stay put at our projected picks of 6 and 11. The question is will we trade up into the top 5, trade down out of the lottery to add more picks/ players, or will we completely trade out for a proven player. I believe in either option 1, trading up, or 3, trading completely out. Chad Buchanan has already said that their picks could be moved. I would definitely like to move in the top five or get a quality proven player. What do you think will happen?

Yep Chad made it pretty clear those picks are in play.  I think with the money and the picks it will be nuts if we can't bring in somebody serious to play alongside LMA.

have a feeling we will trade mathews for another lottery pick, then combining 2 of the picks to trade up - or trade one of the picks and matthews for a better player

I also believe we will trade Matthews for a first round 2012 pick and 2013 first round pick. I think we target Beal, Rivers and Melo in the first round then look to add the top two players in the second round. In free agency I think we sign Hickson, Batum, Illasova,(Mcgee or Hibbert), (Dragic, Nash, Bayless or trade Aldridge for Rondo).

I am in favor of a complete rebuild. I do not want to just make the playoffs if we can't win a title.

#1 Get Anthony Davis PF/C he is the next KG and Portland would be wise to build around him.
-This would probably require us to deal LA but we would certainly get a lot for him as far as future picks are concerned.
#2 Draft Michael Kidd Gilchrist SF
-He will likely go top 3 hopefully Wesley Matthews and #11 is enough to move up.
#3 Draft Bradley Beal #6 SG
-By trading Matthews we open up SG space for E-Will and Beal to compete for time.
    #4 Draft Tony Wroten PG/SG
-He is a combo guard but for the price of N. Smith or L. Babbit and cash he is worth the risk at the bottom of the first round.
    #5 Draft Royce White SF
-He would likely be a top 10 pick if not for his fear of flying the kid is a slight risk but he has incredible upside plus Kidd Gilchrist makes this a worthwhile risk. Trade whoever is left Smith or Babbit and Cash for him.
    #6 Draft Jae Crowder F
-He is a good hustle guy capable of playing a couple spots in the NBA he would be a great safety net for White.
    #7 Draft Scott Machado PG
    - Wroten is more of a combo guard so adding Machado off the bench as a pure passer and tempo guy would be smart.
    #8 Draft Festus Ezeli C
-He has no face up game and struggles a little with his back to the basket but he does have a nice hook and improving post moves. His real strength is his incredible individual defense. His size and strength will be a major asset in the next level. At worst he is Nick Collison a physical tough post defender if he improves his offense he could become the next Nene or Tyson Chandler. Trade Kurt Thomas and Cash to select him at the very bottom of the first round or at the top of the second.

With 8 rookies this team will likely not win a ton of games next season but we will have a ton of cap room to lure someone like D Howard or CP3 and we will also likely have two lottery picks to add on to whatever we do this summer. With the likes of Steven Adams, Nelrens Noel, Shabazz Muhammed, Cody Zeller and James McAdoo and Tony Mitchell available next draft this is not a bad position to be in.

I would follow that up by keeping JJ Hickson, trying to get a 1st round pick next year for Batum and then filling out the roster from there.

LA still has a ton of time left in this league. Trading him now, after making him the cornerstone of our team, would be a slap in the face to him. We don't need to build around Anthony Davis, we need to build around LMA. Were not really as far off from being a championship team as a lot of people on this forum think. We need a center and a consistent point guard and we at least have a chance at making a run.

Really a run well I guess that seriously depends on if Batum can become an all-star and we get one hell of a pg and center. I am sorry adding Dragic and Kaman to this team is no where close to enough to push us into the contender category.

The one thing you need more than anything else to win in the playoffs is defensive intensity and execution. Portland's defense was terrible this year and unless Portland can get a deal for Rondo or someone like him I do not see many people on the market who can change that dynamic.

Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist on the other hand have that intensity and at 19 and 18 years old have a lot of time to develop. The rest of the pieces fit different categories but they add some real depth to this team something that Indiana and San Antonio have shown this year is very beneficial in the playoffs.

Stand pat and trade IN to the first round. If we stay at 6 & 11, take the BPA at both picks, maybe move up 1/2 spots to get the guy you are targeting then trade back into the first round for Tony Wroten.
Beal, Kidd-Gilchrist, Wroten would be my dream first round draft.

decision items which will play in any decision we make

What draft choices do we end up with

what is the price to move up in the draft (3 to 5 mil?) per spot?

what is the trade value of players we are trying to trade.

who exercises certain options on their current contract.

who is out coach going to be.

who is our GM and what decisions he might make.

This is not a complete list amd others could expand the list.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
