After last night's loss to Utah, The Oregonian's Jason Quick interviewed Wesley Matthews and he talked about ways to improve his game as well as....playing in the Las Vegas Summer League.
“I’m playing. I’m playing. Dead serious,’’ Matthews said after Wednesday’s home finale, a 112-91 loss to Utah.
“That’s not a surprise,’’ Buchanan said. “Wes is striving to get better all the time. I love it. In the history of the NBA, I can’t imagine too many guys of his stature requesting to play in Summer League. That tells you a lot about him.’’
Buchanan did say the matter would be “up for discussion” because it is unknown what players the Blazers will draft or acquire between now and Summer League, which starts in July.
Matthews’ agent, Lance Young, was in Portland on Wednesday and said he learned of Matthews’ plans over dinner on Tuesday.

“He said he wants to play in two or three games, practices ... just be around the team,’’ Young said. “I said ‘all right.’ He’s going to be playing pick up games anyway.’’
As  for what Wesley wants to work on this offseason-
Matthews said he wants to work on post ups and isolations this summer. I threw in ball handling as a suggestion.

“That too,’’ Matthews said, slightly irritated at the suggestion. “Everything.’’

I really like the fact that Wesley wants to get better by any means necessary, but I think Summer League is the wrong avenue to take. Summer League is for rookies and young players who haven't had a chance to develop through actual game action. Also, when there is a veteran around younger players, the young players usually defer to their elder statesmen more times the not. So, if we draft two rookies with our lottery picks, I want to see if they can lead the team similar to what Brandon showed during his first action in Summer League. Finally, I don't think there is anything to be gained by destroying, which is what Wes would do to the competition, rookies and NBA D-League players. There's probably pick-up games across the States where Wes can improve rather then Vegas.

Paul Allen said how do we get better?  I see no activity in the draft with no draft picks.  The trade possibilities are limited because of the value of our bench players.  We have no cap space.  So I think the improvement of our b...

First Game starts tonight. Houston is a tough first round opponent and they play exceptionally well at home. If we can steal a game or two at their place, I feel like we have extremely good chances.

P.S. Would anybody happen to have a...

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
