Trail Blazers (28-32) vs. Kings (19-41)

Outside of the Bobcats, losers of 15 straight, there hasn't been a less competitive team over the past few weeks the the Kings who have lost 12 of their last 14, including seven in a row by an average margin of 13.4 points. They don't particularly play well in front of the home fans (14-15) and these recent struggles seemingly came out of the blue as no major players were lost to injuries. Currently, John Salmons is out indefinitely with a sore right hip and Francisco Garcia is experiencing concussion-like symptoms, which caused him to miss Friday's game at Oklahoma City. Injuries aren't a factor and their young players are giving the city hope as Isaiah Thomas just was announced as the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for the second straight month (February/March). Through 18 games in March, Thomas scored 13.6 points, handed out 4.9 assists and led all rookies in fastbreak points (64). And they've got improved play out of second-year center, DeMarcus Cousins who has registered five of his top seven scoring outputs since March, including a career-high 41 at the Kings all while putting in work under the boards, averaging 10.3 rebounds during March. So the Kings are getting great point-guard play, fantastic big-man play and haven't been harmed by injuries, yet it seems like they are mailing it in. Something just doesn't add up.

Could the Kings have already mentally checked themselves out of the regular season and dream about vacations in Hawaii rather then study game tape? It's a good possibility. And if that's true, the Trail Blazers will steamroll the Kings Sunday afternoon. They won't just win, it will be a blowout. Because while the playoffs have long since been thought of as a possibility in Rip City, Coach Canales has the team fighting hard until the final seconds tick off. I mean, who comes back from 16 down with 3:50 left to play in the game, without their All-Star, and seemingly nothing to play for? These Trail Blazers. That's not even mentioning the revenge factor. Portland and Sacramento have already tangled up once at Power Balance Pavilion, a 95-92 Kings win back on February 2nd. But so many factors have changed since February 2nd. No long does have LaMarcus Aldridge, who led the team that night with 28 points. Gone is Marcus Camby, who use his veteran tricks to get under Cousins' skin, taking the talented big out of his element which resulted in a measly 8 point, 6 rebound night in just 14 minutes. On the other hand, the Kings hadn't yet experimented with Thomas as the starting point guard. Funny enough, J.J. Hickson gave the Kings 6 points and 2 rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.

Speaking of J.J., this will be a big game for him. After being waived by the Kings and not seeing things work out the way he had hoped in Sacramento, you know he's had this game circled on his calendar since being picked up by the Blazers. He will definitely want to go back into PBP and show the fans what he was capable of doing. And Portland will need more then 13 points, on 5-12 shooting, and 10 rebounds. That was his stat line against the Mavs who made Hickson the focal point of their defensive scheme. And it's not going to get any easier for J.J. As  the man down low without LA, teams are going to game plan around stymieing him.

Finally, watch the Przybilla vs Cousins matchup on the blocks. DMC has been beasting lately but is prone to being taken out of the game if an opponent can get in his head. Joel is known for getting under people's skin and you know he'll bust out everything he's got in order to get DeMarcus off his game. If Joel can frustrate the second-year center out of Kentucky, it will go a long ways in helping the Trail Blazers take the season series from the Kings.

All that same horse pucky that happened to he Sonics is happening to Sacramento. BOOOOOO

Watch out for Clay Bennett's clone. You can't keep plucking franchises out of quality cities with a strong fanbase. Go move the Bobcats or something. This stuff is just getting stupid. I have many questions that will never be successfully answered about the core philosophies of the NBA, and how it truly feels about it's fans. Pay off a few politicians and city government board members here and there, boom, you get a "We no want an NBA team in our town no more. We want more bike lanes and high end mini malls instead."

In this game, I want to see Batum and Matthews stepping up. They're the only 2010-2011 Blazers' players left. They need to step up and help the team win this game. I do believe in them.

    Post-Game Quotes:
Coach Kaleb Canales' thoughts on the game-

“It’s hard to win on the road when you commit 17 turnovers that lead to 19 points. We couldn’t get our set defense going and I thought that was huge for them tonight. On the final play of the game, we wanted to make sure we had Joel (Przybilla) matched up with (DeMarcus) Cousins and they were able to run a good play and executed. On our final possession, I think someone got their hands on the ball and that caused our turnover.”

Coach Canales on picking up J.J. Hickson after the Kings waived him-

“With us, we started off with a clean slate. We were excited to get him and he is playing well for us. He ended up with another double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds) and his activity at both ends of the floor has been good for us.”

Coach Canales on Jamal Crawford not playing-

“We looked at the schedule and with another back-to-back coming up, we approached Jamal, and we know he’s a competitor and wants to be playing, but at this time of the season a lot of guys have bumps and bruises so we told him to take tonight off and rest. We are going to take it a game at a time. We will see how guys feel after tonight with treatments and rest, and we will make our adjustments.”

Wesley Matthews on his big third quarter-

“I took what the defense gave me and put the ball in the basket.”

Mathews on go-ahead 3 at the end of the 4th-

“I caught it. I knew I had 10 seconds so that’s why I faced up. I was going to space out. I didn’t really want to take a shot as early as I did but he (Garcia) jumped on my right hand. My favorite shot is a step-back so he gave it to me.”

J.J. Hickson on playing in Sacramento-

“It’s no different than any other team. I realize that I was on this team earlier in the year but at the same time I’m a professional and I prepare for every game the same. I just didn’t want to get caught up in that matchup of me coming back here and playing with a team that I played with in the past. We just came up a little short but it was a great effort by my teammates.”

Hickson on fitting in with Portland-

“We have personnel on this team that plays the game the right way and play the game the way it’s supposed to be played. If a guy is open he’s going to get the ball. Coach has put us in a position to be successful in and we do a good job at going out and try to execute on the offense and defensive end.”

Sug I would start with him outscoring Wesley Matthews. He also needs to get his FTA up and his FG% up and cut down the turnovers.

Cmeese, you want to trade Aldridge too? Seems like you only care that the championships are under the Blazer name, and you''re willing to throw anyone under the bus to get it.

I love the Grit and Grind, and I love the Spurs timeless play. I think if the Spurs get to the finals, they will beat the heat, but they won''t beat the Grizzlies easily, and the Grizz can''t beat the Heat. I know it''s weird.
