Yes, I know there isn't really many coaches out there to go and get and yes I know the coaches can only do so much, the players have to play the game but.............. trust me, Paul Allen is writing McMillan his final paycheck tonight before he boots him for good. The team has been playing the worst that I've ever seen before(yes, even jail blazer era) and your not going to tell me that you don't think that it should be made. This team as you all know have great players but FAIL to play as a team as of late and bring the leadership from the older guys. It pains me to see my team playing so terrible, and to not even make the playoffs to me is shameful. Ya I know I went on a little rant there but what do you think Paul Allen is thinking right now along with thousands of Blazer faithful!? Trades will be made.... and they will be made soon! Trust me! Comment, your opinion on the Blazers Slump>?

We should really go after D'Antoni or Jerry Sloan, just saying.....?

I said to myself if we don't make any trades Nate getting the boot because you can't have no changes and expect a turnaround.

Wow... this post is over an hour old and nobody has jumped on you saying that Coach McMillan is the greatest coach since Coach Slicedbread of the Candyland Invincibles... who actually stopped Hitler.

Seriously, I think it's time for even the most loyal McMillan fans to admit that Mr. Nate just isn't doing his job.

Get rid of Felton and Crawford... You can't blame McMillan if the player aren't doing their job, much less working to run McMillan out of Portland.

It's his job to run the team and he needs to have the respect of the players in order for the team to be successful.

Nate is the man. These players are children. You want Nate to play ? What should his number be ? With the exception of six players, you wont find a full set of testicles amongst them. Two of the six is the announcer. The other is retired GrandMaster, Brandon Roy. My wife, who also is a competitor, agrees with me when i say, that we need a ball handler with the competitive spirit of a Roy, with the will to win.

I think that we should keep everyone including crawford! Get rid of nate, because obviously brandon roy is the only person that can fit in nate's system. You should fit the system around your players, not the other way around. You are telling me, that Andre Miller (since he is the only one that is gone, roy too but he was hurt most the year and didnt contribute to many of the wins we had) being gone is the reason we are this bad?

Aggreed get rid of McMillian.  Thought it was a wrong choice for years anyways.   Blazers went and got him a good team and he cant handle them.   Down the road

Actually, you CAN blame McMillan for the players not doing their job. He lost the locker room weeks ago. The guys stopped buying into what he was saying and when that happens, the coach has to go. It was time for Nate to go anyways... we need a new coach and a fresh new start next season. I couldn't thank Nate enough for what he's done for this organization over the past 7 years. Helped turned us from the Jail Blazers back into the Trail Blazers. After some awful first few seasons he helped us get back into the playoffs again, albeit we got knocked out of the first round three years in a row.

I just wanted to say Thank you Nate for all you have done. I hope you get picked up and hired by some team out there.. you deserve it.
I am a fan of having a completely healthy team for once.

Agree with Mark. You can and should blame the Coach when the players are underperforming as badly as we've seen the Blazers do this year. That is precisely the coaches job; to get the best out of his athletes, whether that means teaching them his style of basketball, helping them refine theirs, or a blend of the two.

The problem that we were starting to see with McMillan was that he was a defensive-oriented, half-court offense, old-school approach type of coach, and he was being coupled with a team that was being built for speed. At the beginnings of both last season and this one, we were told "now THIS is a Blazer squad that's built to run! This season you're going to see some high-flying alley-oops and dominating fast breaks!". Obviously we didn't see that come to fruition in either this season or last, and the arguably best stretch of basketball the team played was at the beginning of this season, before Nate's coaching had time to settle in on a newly organized unit, and it was exactly that; fast pace, high percentage shots before the defense can set up, and a decisively winning record.

It's not that McMillan was in any way a bad coach, it's that he had a stubborn pride about his style of basketball, no matter what team he was given to put on the floor. If we ever had a chance at a full season with our big 3 of Roy, Aldridge, and Oden, Nate's style of crush-them-on-defense-then-set-an-unstoppable-offense would have been great! We seriously would have been the talk of the league as we ran for multiple rings; That is the difference of multiple key injuries, compounded by timing and chronic rehab. That has been the overwhelming story of the recent Blazers...

So our choice was to reinvent the team or reinvent the coaching staff. With the recent moves we made to try and get one last good season, we'd be backtracking considerably to try and reinvent the team instead of building off of what we have, not to mention that the pieces we need to improve most would be the pieces EVERY team needs... so thank you, Nate, for your time and incredible effort when the team was crippled, but it's time for you to go and help someone else as we push to reach the next level.

So many coaching options now!!! Here's what I can think of ahead of us:

Kaleb Canales could be the next Eric Spoelstra, an unknown that has studied the game from multiple levels and knows what his players can do...
Mike D'Antoni's style of running offense with too many guns to stop could fit this squad well, and he'd be a draw for a lot of players we might try to bring to Portland...
Jerry Sloan would be a proven coach who's known to be a chessmaster when it comes to gameplanning (unlike Nate), and has enough voice and player respect to hold his team accountable and make sure they stay consistent...
Rick Carlisle, while he obviously would be hard to pull away from his current spot, has personal ties to Portland, has disagreed with some of Dallas' moves, likes Lamarcus Aldridge, and we'd have the $$$ to make him an offer, especially if we can pull in some other good pieces to make the team more attractive...

    Any others? Any favorites?

I don't think any big name FA would take a Blazer rebuilding sales pitch seriously if we didn't make a coaching change along with the roster changes.  The coaching change had to happen with the roster changes to make this rebuild real on the court, and in the minds of the players we want to bring to the team
