    Trail Blazers (18-17) v Heat (27-7)

The second-half of the season started off on the wrong foot for the Trail Blazers in Denver and it doesn't get any easier tonight, even back inside the friendly confines of the Rose Garden, as the East-leading Miami Heat make their one and only appearance in the Rose City. Not only is their 27-7 record  tops in the East, but no one is better on the road (12-5) and no one is hotter as the Heat are winners of nine of their last 10, including eight in a row. While the Trail Blazers took it right to them in Miami nearly one year ago, winning 105-96. But that was a different time and a different team. Andre Miller had 14, 5, & 3 and Brandon Roy chipped in 14 on 5-8 shooting.

And playing in the Rose Garden tonight may actually be a disadvantage for the Trail Blazers. Why you ask? LeBron James. For whatever reason, LeBron flourishes in Rip City. Jason Quick of the Oregonian, crunched the numbers and found out that no other star since 1995 (Year the RG was opened), James' star has shined the brightest, averaging 30.4 points, on 49.7% shooting, 9.6 rebounds, and 7.1 assists in eight contests. LeBron even went as far as saying, "For one, I spend a lot of time in Portland, Oregon, ... in Beaverton. I'm a Nike guy, so I feel at home sometimes." In fact, Portland has not beaten A Lebron James-led team since his rookie year with Cleveland.

On paper, the deck looks stacked against the Trail Blazers. But as we have all seen this year, when you count them out, they bounce back with a furry. Remember, it's not the elite teams that give Portland trouble. With the fans energized for a nationally televised game, look for much more energy out of Rip City tonight than we saw in Denver. Along with added intensity, energy and effort, the Trail Blazers need to quit shooting bad jump shots early in the clock. Force it down low to Aldridge and let him work one-on-one against Bosh. If Miami sends the double, then send a cutter for an easy basket. Assists will be the name of the game tonight. If Portland is getting good ball movement, player movement they can dictate the tempo and assert themselves offensively against the Heat.

We need the Blazers to pitch a tent near the basket. On both ends. Miami is a good defense, and rebounding team. We need to counter with some of the same. If we throw up a ton of bricks and play timid in the paint, like we saw against Denver last night, this game will get ugly quick.

Highlight of the game was Joel's MUGGING of Lebron and than Lebron missing the 2 charity shots. For being out for over a year Joel did pretty darn good. As far as the game goes I do not think the Blazers played too bad I think the Meat just played that good. Wes started out pretty hot than Nate yanked him not sure why.

I didn't see us winning this game Miami is just too good and we been playing average all season but, as much as I hope this team will have a strong second half I just don't see it happening until we quit playing average basketball I agree with Reggie we have to have a winning road trip to have a chance at the playoffs and like he said I don't see this team having a winning road trip playing average BBall and I would not be suprised if Nate loses his job because of it so I hope everyone has early summer plans because it looks like that's where we are headed. Man good to see Joel out there he looks like the only one who played with pride out there.

    Post-Game Quotes:
Coach McMillan on whether or not he planned to use Przybilla so much-

“No, no I really didn’t. His limit was 15 and he was feeling good. We kept asking him questions about how he was feeling and he went over by four, but we wanted to try and keep him between 10 and 15.”
LaMarcus Aldridge on whether or not he is surprised where the team is at right now-
“It is, we have a lot of talent and I never saw us being in this position. But now we’re here so we have put ourselves in this hole and now we have to dig out of it.”
Coach McMillan on Joel Przybilla's performance-
“I thought he did some good things, things that we need at that five position – setting screens, clogging the paint, he rotated over, had a couple blocked shots, he forced guys to alter their shot a couple times. I thought he did a nice job.”

As I have said at the start of this condensed season on these boards...below .500 and "no chalupas".  The only surprise to me is that this team is almost there this far before the deadline.  I had anticipated a big roster shake up, and still do, by March 16th.  Frustrating yes, but rebuilding efforts require patience, something I have provided there is clear direction.  Without a GM, and with the quantity of impactful decisions on the horizon, I am not convinced there is clear direction.

Additionally, I would add that the amount of hope we as a fan base can be expected to have this season is reflected in the picture on the home page "Heat too hot..." and both the body language and facial expressions of the players featured

    Heat are good, yes

But effort, awareness, and intensity from this Blazers team still needs to be questioned. When you go out and grab a veteran Center who hasn't played all season, and he's the only guy playing like it's an actual NBA game, diving, scrapping, setting screens, moving guys around, and playing with guts, it sure made the rest of the Blazers look bad. I don't know if that's what Przybilla intended, but he was clearly the most effective Blazer on the court last night.

    agree 100% tobyus

przy came in and performed exactly as i've come to expect from him. night in night out he brings effort, something the rest of this team has sorely lacks lately, let's hope it is infectious and preferably a fast spreading infection.

reggie kept saying he needed an IV and was winded, but it looked like he came in in great shape to me, probably better than most of this team did at the start of the season.
