Trail Blazers (13-10) vs. Nuggets (15-7)

The Trail Blazers kick off a three-game homestand Saturday night against the Nuggets. While Portland suffered another road defeat -- their fourth in a row -- at Sacramento on Thursday, Denver was busy giving the Los Angeles Clippers the business, derailing Lob City, 112-91. That was the first game of Denver's back-to-back-to-back, which means the Trail Blazers catch their divisional foe on the final night of the three games in three nights scenario. Sandwiched in between the Clippers and Blazers for the Nuggets? The Lakers. This three-game stretch will really be a test to see if the no-name Nuggets are for real. Currently, they have to be the favorite for surprise team of the year. At 15-7, they are owners of the second best record out West and our an amazing 8-4 away from the Pepsi Center -- the second best in the entire NBA. While Denver has been one of the few able to win on the road, they will find no bigger obstacle than that of the Rose Garden where the Trail Blazers are a dominant 10-1 in front of the Maniacs and have destroyed their previous two opponents at home by a combined 82 points.

Portland already dispatched Denver earlier in the season at the Rose Garden, 111-102, back on December 27. And how exactly were they able to stymie the Nuggs? Guard play. Wesley Matthews, Jamal Crawford, and Ray Felton combined for 70 points, on 25-47 from the field, 7-16 from 3, 13-13 from the charity stripe, 10 assists, and 15 rebounds. This was also the game where Portland committed 25 turnovers compared to Denver's 7 and still came away victorious. I wouldn't expect that big of a performance from the guards but you have to figure Portland will take care of the ball a little better and will receive more than 13 points from LaMarcus Aldridge.

What kept Denver in the game was dribble penetration. Ty Lawson carved up the Portland D for 25 points on 10-16 shooting. The jitter-bug point guard was a riddle the Trail Blazer defense couldn't solve and if Marcus Camby gets into foul trouble or just rests throughout the game, it becomes imperative to play off of Lawson, forcing him to shoot jumpers instead of lay-ups. Two final stats to look at which will determine the victor on Saturday. Rebounding. Portland dominated the backboards back on December 27th, cleaning up the glass to the tune of a 50-30 advantage. And scoring. The Trail Blazers rolled to another 100+ point performance, scoring 111 in victory. If the Blazers crush Denver on the boards and score over 100, they should take care of business.

NEED to put our *ihst together on this one and get the W, no matter how Denver looks when they come in. I like the fact that it's the 3rd night of their back to back, but they've got an incredible road record, and we CANNOT afford to overlook them.

I still believe our own road record will balance out, but we need to figure out those kinks as soon as possible, or it's gonna start wearing on our players mentally (as if it's not already). But in the meantime, we can't afford to let our home record get any less one-sided. A great way to help both would be working on that key habit that seems to be getting away from us so badly... FINISHING GAMES.

Both home and away, our 3rd and 4th quarters tend to be weak. It's not just the % of shots that are falling (like last night), because we've won with that going both ways. There's some other factor that is affecting the team as a whole in the latter half of games... Whether this be conditioning, getting too comfortable, or just lacking killer instinct, it has to stop immediately.

I'm not blaming Aldridge for this, not even saying he's the root of it, BUT wherever the problem is coming from, the solution will have to start with our all star and team leader. I've been stoked that we're getting to see a little more of LaMarcus getting aggressive, both vocally and with his play, but at this point, it shouldn't be in FLASHES!!!

LA has to be a constant presence on the floor and in his teammates ears. Low key is great and part of who he is, but it has to be coupled with a ferocity and passion that doesn't have gaps. It's the next big hurdle in front of Batman, and I can't wait to see when he stands on the other side.

(Also, my brother lives in Denver, so it would be REALLY nice to hang this over him when he comes home.)

RUDY!! MILLER!!! Blazers are a home juggernaut, and the Nuggets have been cappin' and snappin'. Division rivals, this should be a very intense game.

WTH... on every page i visit on the Blazer site, there's the lil red bar at the top of the screen that says "LIVE BROADCAST!!! CLICK TO WATCH THE PREGAME!!!" and i've clicked half a dozen times, hoping the previous times it just had trouble loading... but still nothing. It continues to advertise that the pregame is showing on TrailblazersTV, yet Trailblazers TV shows NOTHING. Now I have to wait another like 10 minutes for the game to actually start before I can get any real blazer info on the night...

    booooooo.

Wait, the NBATV guy said it's gonna be another 20 minutes... BOOOOOO.

    FIX YOUR WEBSITE PLEASE :(

Anyway game is on tv now so i'm happy but SHEESH you guys teased me thinking I'd get an extra half hour of Blazer talk tonight! Quit tuggin at my heart strings :P

I'm sooooo angry.... I didn't have Batum in my starting 5. I thought first game back from an injury, etc.

But seriously, why why WHY did we not sign an extension on his contract?

I'm sure we will match any offer.  What people don't realize is he doesn't care about how much $ we offer him.  He wants minutes and he wants to FEEL like he is a big part of the team.  He has said this is several interviews so all these people saying "We can afford to sign them both", yes we can but we need to be able to convince him that we don't want him, we NEED him.  He seems like a nice guy and humble and kinda sensitive, if he is feeling under appreciated he won't want to stick around but after hearing the crown chant his name? I think he knows how bad the fans need him around.

We stream every pre-half-post game show available, for everyone around the world. The streaming bar up top is for a price of $2.99 and it is only for those within a certain area of Portland where Comcast is not available.

Great game from Nic. I'm really liking what I've seen from him over these past couple of weeks. No longer do the coaches and his teammates have to beg him to shoot. If we can get a consistent 20 points a night from him along with a few 3's to keep the defenses off of LA, we'll finally shake those road woes.

Lost in the Batum career-night was a MONSTER night from LaMarcus Aldridge: 29 points, on 13-18 shooting(!), 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Again, if his supporting cast can help him out, this team is deadly. LA is really proving he is a Top-10 player in this league.

DHawes - I've been able to see every pregame show before this. Did something change with Comcast's deal for this game, that the online pregame feed was not available where it had been for every game before this from the same area? Cuz if nothing changed, again I feel like it's gotta be something with the site.

I like these five on the floor together - L.A. Batum, Wallace, Crawford, Camby. I would make a strong argument for this to be the starting five, but it would take too many words. The only problem is Crawford's defense.

    BATUUUUUUM!!!

GREAT game Nico, was so frickin STOKED to see you come back and shoot the lights out like that. Loved the commentary about how it was all cuz your knee still hurt enough so 'all you could do was shoot from outside' lol... hope the knees ok really but was great to hear you with some swagger and attitude about your game.

KEEP IT COMIN NIC, RIP CITY WANTS MORE!!!
