Trail Blazers (4-1) vs. Lakers (4-3)

The arch-rival Lakers make their one and only regular season appearance in the Rose City to take on the red-hot Trail Blazers. After starting off the season with two straight losses, the Lakers have bounced back to win four of their last five. A major part of the L.A. turnaround coincides with the return of the previously suspended Andre Bynum. In his three games this season, Bynum is putting up 22.7 points, 17 rebounds, and 2 blocks. If Portland wants to continue their home dominance over L.A. at the Rose Garden (winners of 10 of the past 12 in Rose City), they must rebound the basketball. Along with Bynum, Gasol  gives the Lakers another legit seven-footer capable of causing havoc on the glass.

But the Trail Blazers can keep L.A. off the boards if they rebound early and often and turning those defensive rebounds into fast break points. If Portland scores a few fast break points in the first half, it will force the Lakers to back off on crashing the offensive glass. And this game will come down who can assert their will on the backboard. Portland ranks second in the entire league in rebounding (47.2) and has the third highest rebounding +/- at 7.8 while the Lakers are eight in boarding at 45.7 and fifth in +/- at 6.1.

Portland continues to stay atop the West with a win as long as they do three things: Get Aldridge involved down low, push the tempo, and connect on a few early threes to get the crowd excited. Rip City is already going to be buzzing about this contest but nothing can stirs the hive more than big buckets in the game's opening minutes. And frankly, we need Aldridge to play aggressive again just as he did against the Thunder. Get their bigs in foul trouble and work that pick and roll with Felton. Those easy buckets in the paint do wonders for our offense and demoralize the d.

We, as fans, are waiting to hear the absolute silence from the TNT broadcasting crew, as they will be unable to say anything good about the Lakers, after the Blazers get done wiping L.A. off the floor.

Bench play is a key for me our bench should outplay theirs ron artes... I mean Metta World Peace usually has good games against us and I know Steve Blake wants to stick it to us but our bench should have no problem winning the battle and ball movement is inportant we have to make their defense shift we can't have Bymum and Gasol clog the paint so hopefully Camby and Kurt an hit a couple jumpshots to bring their bigs out and of course give the same defense to Kobe that we gave to Durant try to make every shot as difficult as possible and we should have a Blazers victory.

Lamarcus has had a problem with the double team but since we have other people that can score, that double team is only going to last so long. Our key is to have 2 of our starters pick up Lamarcus's 1st half slack in the shooting dept. and than just play our game we should be fine.

I'm not worried about this game at all.  Lakers have looked good against teams that are bad, but still lost to Denver.

Just rebound and run.  Lakers don't run.  Their best players have been Blake and Bynum.  Bynums competition has been Nene (who is really a PF), Birdman (who isn't that great), and Dalembert.   He's now going against Camby, Thomas, and Smith.  He'll have a tough night.  Bryant will shotjack like usual.  Blazers are the better team, thus it should be an easy victory like it always is when the Fakers come to Portland

I agree Herr. Although, wouldn't it be nice to have Oden back just to REALLY show Bynum what our team has? Either way. We have more people that can contribute and better defenders. Kobe never does well in the Rose Garden and Bynum isn't dominant enough to win the game single-handedly.

If Blazers pound the boards, their transition game will wear the Lakers down. 25+ points a quarter will guarantee a double digit Blazer victory!

If we run, LA is done. Putting Bynum in foul trouble early could very well decide this game for us. That means Gasol moves to the 5 spot. A place that is very uncomfortable for him. Thats going to free up our own LA to do damage inside. Im looking for Felton to penetrate and attack Bynum, early and often. Big things baby. Big things.

I would like to see more of Crawford and Felton in the line-up at the same time. Any comments?
I am a fan of Portland played uninspired today. No sense of urgency no offensive rebounds, no tenatious defense.

That would put Crawford back in his natural element. As long as Kobe isnt on the floor at the same time. I like Wesley on Kobe. He pesters him. Since Kobe's so fond of snakes,he should appreciate the old adage of " cut off the head, the body will die ".

Now I know today my birthday because the Blazers win and the TNT guys gave us some props but, man I thought that first game will never end. Total team annilhilation of the Lakers show no mercy Portland.

Outexpletivestanding game. I mean, are you kidding me with the overtimes ? But i endeavored to persevere. There was a play where L.A. scored, and in a blur Felton got back the 2 points we just gave up. I watched Kobe as Felton blew by, and the next thing i know, Ray was at the rim. How about my guy Jamal, shaking cats out of their shoes for fadeaways. Oooo weeeee ! Thats why i love this game. To tell you the gospel, when  Wesley hit that three, they were done. Great game !  Who's next ?

We fans all know what Aldridge can do and not surprised by his dominance on the floor. We expect that every night but in terms of Wallace, we asked him to step up in a big way in the retirement of Roy and boy has he delivered. His one on one D, his help D and his scoring have been a huge factor to Portland being #1 in the West right now!

Of course we knew Aldridge would have tough competition this year in his hope to make the All-Star team. But what we didn't know is how much competition would come about of behalf of one of his own teammates.

    WAY TO GO CRASH!

i have to be honest though folks. Now I can't blame anybody but myself for not buying a ticket, but that was the worst TNT broadcasted basketball game that I've ever seen. I understand it's not their fault that the Miami/Atlanta game went 3 Overtimes. But they virtually had zero coverage of the 1st half of this game, other then a ticker on the bottom of the screen, and maybe 10 seconds worth of split screen, showing that we are missing the game. I would like to have seen at least a handful of live look-ins, instead of one commercial break after another, after another, after another, while we were subjected to watching an extra hour of East Coast hackball.

Good deal was, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Commando was on AMC, so it was really no big deal at all.

Really Great game for Blazers, Great Win !!! HURA !!!
and some thoughts: for me at the start of this short season , everything goes optimistic and every player is on the right rythm: Aldridge and Wallace playing like real Stars and other players make everything to  help them to win next games. I am waiting for more ...  :-)
