Ken Berger of CBSsports.com put out his annual NBA predictions today and picked our own Portland Trail Blazers as his surprise team out West. To make it even more sweet, his demise team? The L.A. Lakers.
Surprise Team (West): Trail Blazers. Greg Oden suffered another setback, and the loss of Brandon Roy to chronic knee injuries is even more devastating. But the Blazers still have LaMarcus Aldridge and one of the most resourceful coaches in the game. Somehow, Nate McMillan always finds a way.

I am as big of a blazer fan as the next guy but I don't see us making the finals this year, ide be happy with getting out the 1st round.

I don't think Berger is talking about Portland reaching the NBA Finals. He just sees them as a team being overlooked by many in the media.

Personally, I see this current team's ceiling as a second round team which is fine for right now. We desperately need to get rid of this second round drought.

I believe we will get through the first round of the play offs. The second around all depends on matchups. Nothing we can predict just yet. Especially with a tough Clippers team coming up.

Blazers have had a team thats been capable of getting to the 2nd or 3rd round for the last couple years its really all about playoff draws, look at last year they actually gave dallas a much tougher time then OKC or the Lakers,it just depends who you draw

i think setting a goal to get out of the first round is dumb. let's win a championship and settle for nothing less m'kay?

Championship dreams are all well and good for high school coaches, but we're talking about the NBA. I don't think we have a championship team with our current front court. We do, however, have a second round team. So let's live up to our potential and make it past that pesky first round. This is the year that teams like the blazers can take advantage of. It's condensed and requires youth and depth. We have both right now. OKC is in front of us there, but I'm not as concerned. More importantly it takes teams like Dallas and Boston almost entirely out of the equation. Miami has an advantage, but Wade, James, and Bosh may shoot themselves in the foot trying to play their typical 42 minutes per game and wearing themselves out before the playoffs. I think the end of this season is going to be as surprising as everything else we've seen.

the beauty about professional sports is any team can have a shot at the win. why isnt portland championship worthy? because they don't have a max contracted super star? so we are suppose to make the second round and just roll over no matter who we face? the only team out there that scares me is miami and they're in the east. OKC is overrated, they are good, but they aren't going to the last round this year. If we continue playing team ball and stay healthy, the sky is the limit for this team. my prediction is blazers miami, miami winning in 6. But I hope blazers prove me wrong. and that is hard for me to admit because i hate miami.

If we had our act together against dallas last year we would have rolled over the lakers just like they did. this team has been 3rd round worthy for 2years, now they are finally believing it.

Allow me, to again be the person to say that the last time we had a lockout, Marcus and Kurt took their New York Knicks to the NBA Finals.  Lightning can strike twice.  Especially with this group.

I agree...Miami will not be as strong as the season gets to the 1/2 way point and beyond....same for other squads like Clippers and Lakers.  I think Nate is taking the right approach...work your main rotation let them gel as much as possible...then start experimenting with Johnson for Camby a little bit at a time.  Get the team to understand the shorter rotations when there are days off, and looking further down the bench on stretches where there are a few games in a row.

This is a team and a year that is best suited for Coach, and his willingness to let the reins go a little bit...at practice with actions that befriend the players (music before and after practice) and getting the to run...it is obviously what Raymond and Wallace want...those guys are sometimes running before the ball has been rebounded - its awesome to watch.

Im a fan of Portalnd going into OKC and putting a 10 point whooping on them - a battle of the undefeateds - and watching Durant and Westbrooke get in a tizzy again.  What makes OKC so much better then the Blazers?  Would like to know.  Durrant...ok...5-7 more points per game then Aldridge.  Westbrooke...ok...5-7 more points and 1 assist more than Felton.   Hardin / Wallace - advantage Wallace.  Perkins / Camby|Thomas - advantage CT.  Bench / Coach - Blazers.

I am as big a Blazer fan as anybody on here but we have to be realistic.  Yes, we can beat OKC, but we are not so much more stacked than most people think.  They have a deep team too, most of our fans say Batum, C. Smith, Nolan, EW, CJ, and Thomas gives us insane depth and that OKC has nobody but Westbrook, Durant, and Perk.  They have Hardin, Collison, Thabo, Ibaka, and Maynor.  Most people's reactions to them are "well who are they anyway"  but think about it turned around most fans of other teams probably don't know anybody past our starting 5 + plus Crawford and maybe Batum.  Just because the names arn't thrown around doesn't mean a lot.  Nick Batum does so many things that don't show up on the stat sheets, and so do a lot of the Thunder's bench.  I know we can beat them by attacking Durant, who has average at best defense, and taking it to Perk's chest to get him out of the game.  We can out rebound, pass around, and run on them easily.  Westbrook, Ibaka, and Thabo, are good defenders and we have to catch them on their heels away from the hoop and cut like a preteen trying to earn money!

I still have hope for Greg Oden coming back mid season and coming off the bench to add defense to the second team. If and I really mean IF that happens, 8 minutes a half would help take us past O K City or beat them in the playoffs.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
