"Following Greg's most recent physical examination and evaluation, we've determined that he has suffered a setback," said Trail Blazers President Larry Miller. "We're hopeful, but less confident that he will return to the court this season. We've stood by Greg from the day he was drafted and we continue to do so now with this agreement."

So we're not sure if we'll have the big fella this year or not, but he did still sign with us. How does this effect us this season? Can we make a deep playoff run with a front court of Camby, Aldridge, and Chris Johnson? Will we see a lot of Crash at the 4?

Just wanna say that I will continue to support Greg Oden!  We all know that he never ever wished to be the #1 draft pick in the NBA and not be able to play.  I pray that his knees are stronger and won't fail him again.  I have been a Blazer fan forever, and as disappointing and saddening as this news is for all of us fans.........imagine for just a moment the frustration, disappointment, anger, sadness, etc that he is and has been going through.  I got your back Greg and I know a lot of other people feel the same!! <3 4 life!!

It's not like there's anyone to replace him with if we get rid of him. He won't be playing for us most (if not all) of this season. Unless he retires, he's as worthless off our roster as he is on it. We're cutting losses with Brandon. If we are also cutting losses with Greg, Luke, Armon, Patty, Rudy, Earl.... Pretty soon all we have are losses and no roster. The truth is there are no good Centers in this league that we can get ahold of... We do, however, have one on our roster that has been injured for a while. Either you wait for a new rookie Center, more money, a bigger cap, Deus Ex Machina, or Greg to come back healthy. My money's going on the last option.

I have been a Blazer fan forever!  Wish the big guy could play!  But..really...8.9 million for a guy that is gonna hang out and have fun???  Seems like that money could be used somewhere else.  82 games in 3 years...and now we resign him for a ton of money...only to hear we signed a guy that most likely won't play...wish I could make that kind of money for not working.  He is a huge asset to us healthy...but when will he be healthy..and how much is it going to cost the team to get him there.

Honestly, Chad's comments were the most bleak we've heard regarding Greg. Maybe Chad had higher expectations for his progress at this point and was disappointed after having gotten his hopes up. Nate said, "nothing's changed for me." And, in the interview with Camby yesterday, he referred to "when Greg comes back." It certainly sounds like everyone BUT Chad Buchanan is still expecting Greg Oden to make his return this year.

One major problem is that the NBA budget doesn't work like any other budget. Even if we didn't pay him the 8.9 million (which we won't; they're re-negotiating a contract due to his expected delay in return), we wouldn't have that 8.9 to offer another player. We would still only have a mini mid-level exception, which we already have. The only way that I've heard for us to get more money is to amnesty the retiring Brandon Roy... but there are probably issues with those two events coinciding. My point is that we didn't have 8.9 million that we decided to offer to Greg. We had the option of offering Greg an 8.9 million qualifying offer. If we hadn't offered it to him, (to my best understanding) that option would completely go away. At that point we'd have the same budget to work with, and no G.O.--injured or healthy--on our roster. Is everyone starting to understand the reason we extended the qualifying offer?

I support Greg, I just want to see him play again like in college. We are going to pick up someone to take the burden off LaMarcus. ANything good in the FA market. As for Greg, I only wish him the best and as challenging as it is to be a fan, I will still support the Blazers. Prayers and support to Greg! What a day yesterday, help me...

First Roy then Odin and now L.A. has a procedure done on his heart.  Man what a day for the Blazers.  Why do i not hear any talks of the Blazers going after any free agents or players on the trade block?  Nene would help. Pryzbilla the manilla gorilla would be better than what we got now. Tyson Chandler.  Marc Gasol.  Is there anybody that thinks Howard would not help us out? Or what about CP3? I love what L.A. has done but we gotta give him some help.  He is not a true center and Camby is getting up there in years and he's battled injuries lately. Is the lack of a G.M. keeping them from getting quality players to come to Portland to help out? Whats going on here it seems as if all of a sudden everything is in disarray.

    Greg,
I hope this new problem isn't big and you can somehow make it back out for the PTB this season. My dream is to still see you starting at center as a Trail Blazers for years to come. The injuries and misfortune that have beset you since being drafted are truly mind boggling. I and many other Trail Blazer fans still believe in you. Can't wait to see you bring it!

We weren't really expecting him to return to the court until January, correct?  That would be messed up if he had to miss the entire season again, and then get picked up by another team next season.  When Greg has played, he's definitely made his presence felt.  It's those blasted injuries that are keeping him from playing.

As one of the biggest Oden fans around, this hurts. But, really nothing surprises me anymore. I doubt he plays again this year but maybe he can prepare for the 2013 season. At this point, I don't expect too much out of Oden but anything he can give us basically becomes icing on top of an already delicious cake.
