Trade up for Tyler Hansbrough! If we trade Outlaw, Sergio, and a couple of 2nd round picks we have a good chance of drafting at like 12th and getting Tyler Hansbrough from UNC. He would provide the strength that we need and the energy off the bench. If he backed up LaMarcus then we have a deeper group of Power Forwards and L.A. will not need to work so hard. Hansbrough fits perfectly into this team and if we get a point guard in free agent market, the championship window is wide open and Brandon will be hoisting the Bill Russel Trophy in 2010!

Tyler is the best college player in this draft. i wouldn't even compare Griffin to him. Tyler is great at both ends of the court. However IMO he's not good enough to be a solid NBA player. He's definitely not a Center. Possibly a PF but he's not fast or agile enough to be one. I think he'll end up being a career backup. Don't be surprised if we end up getting him without trading up.

It'd be hard for K.P. to gain any ground in the draft this summer. I believe that other teams are getting tired, of the Blazers getting all the best rookies. But Pritchard has mad skills, we'll see what happens. Hansbrough is definately a good'n.

That could be what Portland needs though is a guy who is okay with being a good career backup PF. The roles to be permanently established within the organization and loyalty in place. Long term winning. I still would be absolutely SHOCKED if he fell to 24.

In that sense (backup PF) I would love to get him. Even though I think he's limited, he'll be a nice depth. But I wouldn't go as far as trading up to grab him. This might be the worst draft of recent years. I'm not even sure if there's a single person excited about the whole process.

I would go only as far as to say there shouldn't be any BLAZER fans excited about the draft itself. Should they be excited about Draft Day? Absolutely! I think KP will want to have his team in place come summer league so that the guys who don't go can get some workouts in together and get settled in Portland. Most of the moves that are going to be made will be made either ON Draft Day or SHORTLY after. There are teams like Memphis or Minnesota that could have a great draft, any playoff team though has very little to look forward to. I would trade up for Hansbrough, but only if you can't get another good veteran backup for a similar price. It has to do with what is available to fill that position. I honestly wish that Frye could have panned out and filled that spot, but he just isn't agressive enough in nature. We could use a Brandon Bass, Ronny Turiaf, David Lee, or (I know you will laugh at me) Chris Wilcox. Now before you go crazy, continue reading. As a center (which due to his size is out of position) he averaged 2 more points and virtually equal rebounds as Turiaf this last season and played 5 fewer minutes per game. Not to mention you could get him for probably really cheap from New York. Especially if you are giving them a player with only one year left on their contract which is what they want to clear capspace for LeBron, Wade, or Bosh. I think playing him alongside Pryzbilla gives you a strong post in the second unit.

Hansbrough will not drop to 24. What I am saying is to trade up to a lottery pick and snag him. A good team to trade picks/players with to get hansbrough is Phoenix. They are the old and crusty western conference team that is just salivating over finding young talent. If anyone, they would accept (Outlaw-Sergio-Pick24) for the 14th pick because rookies are kind of a risk and Outlaw would be a proven player to help out the Suns. Once we aquire the 14th pick, we pull the Mark Sanchez-New York Jets move by drafting a lower predicted player in Hansbrough at a higher pick than once thought. He is probably the most underrated player in the draft this year and could be vital in the Blazers championship run.

Before the combine, we may have had a chance to get Hansbrough at #24, but not now. He'll probably end up in the top 10, after his tests revealed athleticism similar to Griffin's. And he is possibly the most skilled big man in the draft. Did I mention that he comes from a tradition of winning, and is a proven performer in the clutch?

I'd love us to trade up for Hansbrough, but to get there it will take us giving a few assets. If it doesn't happen, Pendergraff would be a great fit as well.

I agree with the first part of that. I think that at the end of the season there was a good chance Portland could have snagged Hansbrough at the 24th pick, but since draft workouts and the draft combine his stock has risen considerably. Although he is still a career back up and teams know his ceiling may not be as high as others in the draft, he is more ready to make an impact now than the others and he is a consistant player since all his game is a product of effort and not raw talent. He is a modern day Phil Jackson believe it or not. A guy who has honed his craft through hard work and dedication rather than being born a freakish athelete/ basketball dynamo. He very rarely will put up huge numbers, but he will always give you decent numbers. As far as Pendergraph goes, if you have to pick him at 24, I think the Blazers would just be better off trading out of the first round. I kinda like what the guys on NBA.com TV said the other night on their draft special about picking that Greek guy in the second round and letting him play a year overseas. By then you will know if Bayless is your PG, you'll know what you have to work with. Not to mention it is a KP type deal. Oh yeah, the other thing they brought up that I keep getting distracted from is Joel Freeland. Dude, he's Hansbrough (a little uglier) but already owned by the Blazers. If you can't get a REALLY good veteran back up, why not just bring over Freeland? He had a career year where he's playing. I think this year is the year that KP needs to cash in on Freeland and Koponen. Really see what he has in those two. If nothing else he will know by mid season and make some moves then. It's better than letting them rot over in Europe.  Lets atleast see what these guys can do. Trade out of the draft for capspace and maybe a roleplayer. Use your assets to get a good veteran PG on the team, but stick with your core and test out who you already have in the bank. Save the team some money in this hemoraging economy. I know I said that a good back up PF would make a bigger difference than a veteran PG, and I do, but if you already have a back up PF on your team then you don't have to trade for one leaving you with extra assets to make that extra deal happen. That is my new take on all this. I hope KP doesn't forget about them in all this hullabaloo like I did.

Here's the thing about Freeland and Koponen: KP hasn't forgotten about them. Guaranteed. He hasn't brought them over yet because they may not have matured the way he hoped when he drafted them and they might still be a year away. KP will but the best roster together at the start of the season possible, and if it includes Freeland then he will bring him over. I dont know anything about Freeland so I would prefer Hansbrough because he is a proven winner and I know he can contribute right away.

Hansbrough has proven his athleticism and team leadership at UNC. Freeland and Kopenan are international players which either end up really good or really bad in the NBA, so they are both risks. There's no risk in Hansbrough, he is the most NBA ready player in this years draft class.

This all started with someone saying that Tyler Hansborough is the most NBA ready player in the draft. Thats funny. So if the clippers took him #1 he would average more points and rebounds than if the clippers took Blake Griffin. Hansborough was a good college player, it doesnt mean he will be anything in the NBA. (He may be) but for the Blazers to trade any player to move up is stupid. Just because draft evaluators are saying he is moving up on teams boards doesn't mean he will be picked before the Blazers pick. I dont know what we need with an undersized big man. Shavlick Randolph is probaly a better player right now than Hansborough. I'd bet a lot of you Hansborough fans also were on here screaming to "draft the stash" (another really good college player that is now a dumper). We dont have any room on our roster for another young player. If Pritchard can do it, get out of the draft alltogether.

I am a fan of the Blazers last true point guard Rod Strickland.

I, personally, do not want Hansbrough.  Yes, I know he'd make a great backup and stuff, but I just don't want him.  True, we would need another good PF backup, so............. I don't really care if he is on our team.  I just don't wanna lose some players over it.  For example, I do NOT want Outlaw gone.
Sergio, on the other hand, is in question.  He doesn't seem like an effective person, but he seems like the only player on the team able to make that alley-oop to Fernandez.  I'm not saying other players can't, but that's Sergio's job.

But hey, I'm just curious.  What is Raef's role in the team?

Also, I was just reading some more, when I was reminded by Kvin2 of Koponen.  We have too many unused players!

RodFan says " We dont have any room on our roster..."  That's the way I feel, too.

this is the guy pritchard should be targeting to aquire in this draft, we're probably gonna have to trade up in to the lottery to grab him but this is what we need a tough,soild 4  and a vetern point guard outta free agents. physo t out hustles everybody on the court when we plays, hes a beast, he should be a upgrade over channing frye

Ok I'm sorry to say this, but you guys have no clue what you are talking about. Hansbrough isn't worth a lottery pick first of all, not to mention he isn't going to be an all-star like people seem to think. If the Blazers take Tyler Hansbrough this year I would most likely stop being a fan. Here's what I think we need to do. Trade Sergio, Outlaw, and Frye for a solid SF to get into the top 10. That way we can take the best point guard in the draft in Jonny Flynn. Obviously the ideal guy to get would have been Richard Jefferson which also would have gotten us the tenth pick, but we definitely slept on that one.

Ok... first of all... trading Outlaw is out of the question! If you want to mess with the chemistry of the blazers, that is the first thing you do. He was one of the best 6 men in the NBA last year. Webster will probably end up being the starter at SF. The kid has some major game, which he showed before he got injured. Brandon Roy's and LA's best friend on the team is outlaw, and Roy already said he would be very unhappy to see Outlaw gone. Second... we don't need another young point guard. Bayless will be much better then Flynn... He was only in the league one year so far and people seem to have given up on him already! I just thank the lord that no one here is the GM of the Blazers, because we would suck for a long time.

I don't think trading Outlaw is out of the question. Even if he is Roy and LA's buddy, Portland might not even be the best place for TO. He could start on a lot of other teams and get paid more. When asked about who he would want as a back up PF, Roy said Turiaf. Well, if that is the case guess who would have to go. As far as Hansbrough goes, I think he would be too expensive, but I'm holding my breath to see what KP does. I came home early from a camping trip to be home for draft day. Again, I am not excited about the draft its self, just the events that happen on Draft Day. No, I don't think RJ would have been the answer for Portland, I think Webster will be just that at the SF position. I am glad to see that in my absence others have echoed that opinion. Rubio has potential, but I think is overrated at this point in time. As far as Koponen goes, it was between him and Batum for that last roster spot this season, so he may make it this year. Raef is an unrestricted FA so his contract is off the books, and Freeland had a career year in the Canary Islands and is one of the most watched players in Euro Basketball. He's a work horse beast, blue collar, and I think he will be coming over this year if management doesn't get caught up in Draft Day Chaos.

Tyler won't amount to much in the NBA. If we were going to trade up to get anyone it should be Lawson.

Value is in the eyes of the beholder. Portland doesn't need a Lawson TYPE player, but they need a Hansbrough TYPE player in their second unit. That is why he would make sense, does he equal the value needed to trade up for him? Depends on how high you have to go. That is why it is best to go after a proven back up PF than to go chasing Hansbrough.
