Over the past two to three years the Big 3 concept has swept throughout the league......or has it?

The Big 3 has been around for a long time, teams have been doing it since Magic and Bird were drafted to L.A. and Boston. It is only recently that this movement has shocked the majority of fans due to its effectiveness in both the regular season and post with teams such as Boston, and now Miaimi. These two teams received the majority of this attention because their "big 3's" were " HUGE 3's" brand name players. But look at some of the other teams, Denver had Billups, Melo and Nene killing it in Colorado, in los angeles Kobe , Pau and then Artest. Even going back to the Big 3 in dallas, steve nash- dirk- and micheal finley......
Teams are now instead of forming a team around a single superstar, are now forming their teams around a small group of 3 excellent players, typically from different positions, # 1, 3, 4 or 2, 3, 4 positions.

The Big 3 can be looked at with disgust and anger because the public considers it "cheating" or "superstar stacking" but in reality, basketball has been played this way for years, the only difference is that now a multitude of different players are as good as "Magic" was or "Bird".

So i think perhaps it is time for Portland to find itself another player to complete its big 3.
With the recent acquisition of Gerald -Gdub- wallace and the up and coming , sorry, dominating LaMarcus Aldridge, this team has two of its potential big 3.
what is missing is a solid number 1, PG or # 2 SG.
Dont get me wrong, Andre Miller and Wes Math have proven themselves in the past season, definitely crucial to this teams success, but why not try and get someone better?

what do you guys think about Portland and creating a "big 3" and if you could choose the final piece for a point or shooting guard from around the league, who would you choose ?

They already have it. have you forgotten BRANDON "THE NATURAL" ROY? he will be great again and he will be the face of the franchise next year. he had an injury last year that kept him out for some time. Back when Dwyane Wade had his shoulder injury the Heat didn't forget about him, they knew he was the face of the franchise. Aldridge stepped up. when some one goes down with injury thats what happens. Dont get me wrong i love the way Aldridge played this season and hope he only grows from here BUT Roy is the future of this team. let him heal and get back to normal! Wait till next season when everyone will be like OO SH!T this guy was right. idk if you guys dont believe me but that IS what will happen. JUST WAIT!!!!!!

Get well soon B-Roy I know what you can do so go out and prove everybody wrong!!!! MVP! MVP! MVP!

Yes, Brandons season was disappointing this year. But there is a pretty good chance that he can come back next season and do big things. It takes about a year of playing after knee surgery to come back fully.

Dude, Roy WILL NEVER, perform the way he did in his previous seasons. That's like saying Allen Iverson & Tracy Mcgrady will come back healthy and breaking ankles...GET REAL...it ain't happening son.

    so beyond brandons knees.......
is he the other part of the "Big 3"?

or are there other players around the league this team should look to trade for in the off season?
this team has players that they can trade, good / and decent players , and throw in a pick or two and you never know what you might grab.

Blowing up the team to get a superstar is not a smart idea. Now especially isnt the right time. Your best bet at something like this making Portland as appealing as possible for CP3 come summer 2012 when he is an unrestricted free agent. But dont make stupid trades that leaves you like Miami, 3 big guys and no bench.

well first off dont drown yourself in melo drama.
no one is "blowing up the team"
a few off season trades were expected for portland, my point is making them count, and not making trades for an Oberto or a Draft pick from a team that will get to the playoffs.......

and Udonis Haslem, Mike Miller, Mario Chalmers, 7 foot 3 Ilgasgus......i think portland wishes its bench had as much muscle and impact as miami's......

I don't think Portland is the type of market to attract "big-time" players. Having CP3 mention us as a team he'd like to play for last summer was as good as it gets for the city. We don't have any high draft picks, nor we do have cap room to get these potential game-changers, so I'd propose the Blazers just stockpile talent. Start with LA and Wallace and continue to add good talent across the board. Matthews was a great start last year and if we can add a similar caliber player this year, we'll be heading in the right direction.

WOW thanks Nostradamus !!! Please tell me when Portland's next Championship will be because i would hate to watch if I know Portland wont win. Will Portland try to get G.O? Will he produce like everyone hopes? Please tell me because you clearly can see the future. HEY EVERYONE STOP FOLLOWING THE BLAZERS AND JUST WAIT TILL THIS GUY TELLS US WHEN SOMETHING GOOD WILL HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!

Never doubt the FACE OF THE FRANCHISE! Roy WILL (<<<< Guaranteed) be an all star caliber player once again and you and everyone else who is hating on him will feel really stupid for doubting him.

LOL. Oh yeah, I just know everything there is to know because I stated one simple FACT... SMART@$$.
I doubt there is a single person on this forum that doesn't wish Brandon Roy could come back and be the man,
but the reality of it is, CARTILAGE doe's not grow back! THE GUY HAS NO CARTILAGE IN HIS KNEE's.

    Role-player, sure.
    6th man, possibly.
    All-star, HELL NO.

I bet YOU can "guarantee" that CP3 and D. Howard will play for the Blazers next year too huh...GET REAL.

All Roy has been doing, is disrupting the teams chemistry & offense while hobbling on his knees and collecting 12+ million dollars. Oh yeah, some real great qualities there huh buddy.

I think we need a good young point guard who can learn from Andre and take over in a year or two when Andre is done. Other than that, I say keep Chris Johnson and develop him to back up Marcus, LaMarcus, and Greg. As for BRoy, I can see him as a very, very valuable role player. Rarely starting, but often instrumental in our game plan.  I also think we should get a shooter, like Jimmer or the kid from WSU, who can back up Wesley. Interchange Nick and Gerald at small forward.  I guess you could say, I like our team pretty much intact.

NO i CANT guarantee CP3 or D.Howard will come to Portland but I CAN show proof that B-Roy has a great chance of coming back good as new.

here is a list of players who have had the surgery and still played at all star play: Jason Kidd, John Stockton, Zach Randolph, Grant Hill, Amar'e Stoudemire & Kenyon Martin.

Have some FAITH in your once favorite player. Wait till next season when you feel like a JACK@$$ for doubting him and NOT listening to me.

now before anyone calls anyone another name.
please take into consideration that, Portland is not known for its wonderful medical/training staff.
over the past 3 years this team has been pretty decent minus its achillies knee.......

Also with this type of injury it can sometimes come down to the mental aftereffects that stick with a player from all the  doubters/media garbage/ and lack of confidence a player has in himself....

Roy even said it himself, with tears in his eyes about how he felt about the injury, all the doubting, i mean did you guys even see that game????

forget the arrogant statements that each party can make about his comeback or his demise, but look at the facts, look at what you know is certain.....

if chanting MVP on a website or in your head makes you feel more confident about Brandon Roys return, then power to ya man, but thats just no how things work outside of never never land. in the real world, things are more complicated.

Roy had one great game in the playoffs, he didnt really have any super games last reg season, to say that he is for sure going to comeback because he helped prevent dallas from completing the inevitable is ludacris.

but to say that he may be more affected by the injury than most fans are making it out be , is not blasphemy....

Roy might not be like he used to but Roy has always excelled due to his basketball IQ and he just needs to be effectice using low impact moves he has to work on his post-ups, turn around jumpers, floaters, work on his bank shot, shooting/passing when involved in pick and rolls, and he needs to work on quickening the release of his jump shot so that he can get ppl to  bite on his pump fake which will lead to more fouls and allow him to escape dribble for an open shot.

Roy isnt a big 3 type but a constant variable that must be accounted for he will score, set up his teamates, lead, he will be a closer and calming influence on the team.

I really think in the off season he needs to train with Jason Kidd and become a better floor general, Kidd keeps the Maverick offense ticking and the ball never sticks  kidd goes through his sets delivers the ball on  time which allows the play to flow and decisions to be made at each juncture of the play  when a pass is late you either force a shot that isnt there or you make a pass that should have been made a second earlier to get the shot the play was intended to get an open one

Roy will be able to put up somewhere in the range of 16ppg 3apg give or take 4 point and 1-2 assists per game i personally think he is our best passer in terms of creating shots and delivering on time passes for  assist Andre is our most efficient passer in term of passing in half court sets

We only need one more piece which i believe could be Kemba Walker this league now all the top teams outside of the Lakers have a dynamic player at the point. He has John Wall speed and quickness without his length and height and the athletic ability that his height and length afford him due to his natural speed and quickness.  I think he is a player that can be very similar to  Darren Collison but a more polarizing figure.  I also believe his leadership and intangibles are underrated he was a role player for much of his time at uconn and this year led a team of freshman to a national title and hit big shot after big shot in every tournament and carried this team to a championship.

Back on track. Who is the guy that will make us instant contenders? As long as we can keep Wesley ,Brandon, LaMarcus, Oden,Wallace and Chris Johnson, Get Me Deron Williams. I love Dre' and batum, but i'll ship them to Jersey along with a second round pick for D.Will this instant. We'd still have action at Kemba Walker. I dont even know if its feasible, but D and Wesley in the backcourt, with Gerald, LaMarcus and Oden.

Deron Williams has a bad knee, and he called Coach Sloan bad names and made him quit.

Deron Williams? Let's not, and say we did.

the rookie obsession, there it is again.

Kemba, in my mind is going to be in for quite a surprise when he plays next year. Because similar to john wall and his little rocky start, up untill now Kemba has been the best players he has ever played with, like he is finally going to play against people that are better than him, and i dont see it going over too well...

But i say forget the draft, let other teams dabble over those Rook's, trade your picks and go for someone like Brown or Ellis at your point. Ellis had some decent numbers last season, stepped it up on facilitating and defense, and Brown has size, speed, the shot, and the hops, plus if he can master Jacksons triangle, then im sure he can master what ever nate draws up....

Ellis brings the speed and agility this team some what already has and Brown brings the nice shooting and raw power this team also has, so either one could compliment this team nicely.
Ellis you get 20+ points a night and Brown gives you 10+
