While driving to the grocery store this afternoon, I had it on 95.5 The Game and Canzano was on. Now, normallyI don't give him the time of day, but I was interested in his take after the Game 6 loss and he got to talking about his encounter with Oden today during exit interviews.

He said he spoke with Oden and that Greg is so sick about talking about his knee, his future, if he plans to stay in Portland or not. Also, Greg mentioned that the ball was in "his court" in regards to his contract. He doesn't have to accept the qualifying offer to keep him in Portland next year.If he does, it will be for one-year then he becomes a unrestricted free agent the following summer. Canzana said he has heard whispers from inside the organization that they may be ready to offer him a contract worth $40 million over 4 years.

Oden is my boy, favorite player, but that is a huge risk. Do we offer him the qualifying offer of $9 million for a one-year audition (then TRY to re-sign him if he blows up) or try to lock him up, hoping it becomes a bargain and not a burden. We are already locked into 4 more years of Roy's MAX deal, so we aren't getting under the ap anytime soon. I'd make the 4 year offer, but I don't think he'd accept it. Would anyone else make that offer or am I crazy?

These are the decisions where rich cho makes his money. Nothing easy about this situation. I would really love to see greg stick around because when healthy hes a monster, and frankly i think hes the key to this teams success, but it wouldnt surprise me if he just wants to go somewhere where he can get a fresh start.

HECK YEAH make the offer.  Thats about what kendrick perkins gets and I can gaurantee Oden will be better than about 5 points and 9 rebounds a game. Its a risk we have to take

What does one mean "fresh start". I think he "owes" the Blazers some time. The org has stood behind him as his other #1 - Durant  has become a beast. I think he should prove his worth with the team that chose him over Durant. We have the pieces if he can play. Can you imagine having Oden, Camby, and Johnson at center? We can match up with anyone. BTW, Johnson did not get enough minutes. He was standing up to Dirk, we should have kept him in. LA looked tired. Only finally got going in the fourth.

well i hope they know that Oden's knee, might not work.
so that is the most expensive 40 mil ever.

Oden isnt even at 5 points and 8 boards a game, he's at one chair and 5 snacks per game.

    is that gerald wallace smoking?

not even 5 and 8? really.  all greg has to do is lose 20 pounds and get back top his college weight, not the 290 pound glass legged player he is now.  He is easilly a double double player even with the knee issues

idk man thats a fatty " what if".
i think that a healthy oden is worth almost any price in this league, but its not worth the team getting him and his engines cutting out mid way through, costing this team another season.
so far this dude has done more harm than good, its about to be a fools game.....

For starters who is Canzano's source,is he like 90% of Journalists today who regurgitates information from the net, wether it be true or not and if not is never brought to account for misleading the public?

I don't think they will take the chance on giving him a 4 year deal.So he signs 1 year qualifying offer, that year he will be eased back into the team and Blazers Management will access him.By that stage they would monitor the interest (if any)from other teams,if they are concerned that they could lose him at the end of the year they could send out false reports on his recovery and I think other teams would be to afraid to take the risk on a big multi year deal.

40mil 4yrs WOW! I like Oden but that is too much. I just hope the front office finds a way to keep Oden's Raw talent in Ptown so we can show we did make the right pick over the scoring cry baby Durant.

It's Paul Allen, who is like the richest owner in the NBA and one of the most passionate.  If he's willing to give that, I'd do it.  Also, I'm not ready to give up on a dominant center that's only 22 years old.

Check the Oregonian today.  Rich Cho says he is a priority.  WIll probably make him a qualifying offer.  If they want Howard than we have Luxury Tax and Paul Allen can afford that.

Sign him for 1 year with a team option for more years at a set amount.

We have to sign him. We are already in salary cap hell with Roy's 4 MAX years remaining, so we have no money to just sign a Dwight Howard or any other game-changer. Even if we did, when's the last big-time free agent to openly seek out Portland to sign with us?

The ONLY chance this current core of players has of making a deep playoffs run is with a healthy Greg Oden and you can't have a healthy G.O. on your team if he's not signed. The Doc's did say the original knee which had microfracture was now stronger than ever, so lets hope that is the same result for the other one as well. If anything, we need a young center who can rebound and defend. if he never lives up to the hype, so be it. But we can use another defensive anchor to help out LA.

I really think with the Spurs and Lakers showing their age, if we had Oden healthy, we would be the creme of the crop next year in the Western Conference.

If Greg Oden wants to play in Portland then make him an offer. If he wants out, it doesn't matter what we think. I hope he doesn't end up on another team and kill us in the future.

Another Greg fan on this site? Welcome aboard!

Personally, if Greg doesn't want to play here then I'd be very upset with him. We've waited and waited while he rehabbed and stuck behind him. But I think he'll show be loyal to us and it will all eventually work out. We just have to be patient.

No one hopes greg comes back and does well more than i do. I wish the guy the best but at some point you have to let him go. I understand some feel he can be a once in a lifetime player and that we still need to give him a chance and hes still young and all that but look, the guy couldnt play before he got injured. sure he had a few good games, but he was never consistant. He never learned how to stay out of foul trouble, he never learned how to score other than a dunk. its been four years and hes only had more injuries. Oden is a great guy and could have been a real good player, but too much has happened. i think it would be good for oden anyway to have a change of scenery. theres so much negative vibes about him in this town. Even if he goes to another team and does well i dont think he will be spectacular. 12 points 10 rebounds at his very best assuming he stays injury free, something he hasnt been able to do in 4 years. sure hes young but he has a 34 year old players body now after all the injuries. I would have to let him go. Not saying i dont believe oden has it in him i just think too much has happened. after awhile it takes a toll. i think because of the history of the blazers and the feeling that we always trade players and they turn out to be great is whats scaring people into wanting to keep oden. dont be scared people. sure hes big...hes huge. but so are his injuries. let it go, dont be afraid to move on just because of the fear that theres a chance he can be great. And i dont agree with that article that canzano wrote. saying that if theres a 1 in 20 chance of oden being that amazing hall of famer center that we have to take that chance and sign him. i dont know of one general manager that would risks his teams future with those types of odds. sure you have to take big risks to have big gains but this is crazy. i would rather not spend 40 million dollars on the 5 percent chance that oden will be great. i would rather give it to nene or marc gasol and get an 80 to 90 percent chance that one of those players will be solid for us in a deep playoff run next season.
