Should Chris Johnson continue to get playing time the rest of the series?
Yes- His energy on the defensive end of the floor was undeniable (46)
     90%
No- He caught Dallas off guard this one time. It won't happen again (5)
     10%

After falling behind 0-2 in the best of seven series, the Trail Blazers came out with passion and took it right to the Mavericks to creep back into the series with a 97-92 win. Wesley Matthews got the Rose Garden crowd rockin' early on with four straight threes en route to 16 first quarter points. So whether it was Wesley's threes or LaMarcus filling the lane with a massive slam, Portland shot out of the gates quickly. But Dallas was not the best team in the NBA on the road for no reason. They weathered the storm behind Nowitzki and Terry. Dallas ran the pick and roll to perfectly, baiting the Trail Blazers into doubling the ball handler and finding the screener wide open for easy buckets. At the half, Dallas had 52 points and shot nearly 60%. Over the course of the last 24 minutes, Nate McMillan made an adjustment to show a little zone and got the message through to his players that they must fight through screens and only flash at the ball handler then recover quickly to defend the screener. All in all, Portland held Dallas to only 41 points in the second half.

This was the Mavs team I expected: Dirk and Terry leading the way with 54 combined points. Peja got off to a quick start (3-4 shooting)  but went 0-3 in the second half. Kidd had his moments but could only muster his regular season average of 8 points and it took 8 shots. In my opinion, this is the way to beat Dallas. Let Dirk and Terry get theirs but shut down all of the other role players. Also to note, Roddy Beaubois sat out for the third straight game and starter DeShawn Stevenson didn't play one lick in the second half, making Terry go 40 minutes and Kidd 38. With a very short turnaround for Game 4 (Saturday at 2), this could cause fatigue for the Dallas bakcourt.

For the first time this series, Portland had an offensive rhythm, which showed by their 97 points, eight more than their previous series high. We got our normal 20 from LA, but Wesley Matthews lit the torch in the first quarter and passed it on to Brandon Roy the rest of the way. Roy dropped an impressive 16 in 24 minutes and looked like his old self in the process - nailing step-back jumpers, getting to the rim and overpowering the smaller Dallas guards in the post. Even without getting much from Rudy, Nic, or Wallace most of the night, Portland was still able to manufacture points. Just imagine if we get the entire team on board offensively?

It's not so much whether he should get playing time.  If the situation demands he will get playing time.  I don't know about everybody else but I'm not nervous about the idea of him being on the floor.  He hustles on the boards and he's a good shot blocker.  The only real concern I have is he can get a little over zealous going for blocks which may lead to goal tends.  If I'm not mistaken he had at least a couple of them this season.

I just wanna' see Portland attack the basket, not settle for jumpers, get on the break and not give up the 3.  As far as personal wants: I wanna' see Roy continue to produce.  Not for anybody's sake but his own.
I am a fan of Rudy and Patty's off-court bromance.

This team just needed to play at home to get confidence it wasn't like Dallas blew us out when we were in Dallas these teams are even it comes down to which team has the better 4th qtr so it's important that we have a lead going into the 4th, guard the three, Terry and Dirk had their numbers but no one else had an impact type game and that how it should be we just need to keep that third and fourth scorer in check.

He looked like a boat anchor on offensive but he was very comfortable on defense and you can chalk that up to play-off jitters and the fact that Nate actually played him instead of putting in Camby. I can honestly say his few minutes of play sparked the Blazers into the 4th quarter and made the Refs forget about calling fouls on Camby. I hope he gets a few minutes each game to rest Camby and LA I am not so much worried about goal tends because those in a way have more of an effect to boost moral on our side as it does to give the other team 2 points. I hope we see that play from Roy this game and from here on out. We got lucky that Tyson Chandler got picked on last night. I dont think we can expect this on Saturday the calls kinda went our way for once but I am not going to expect that again this series. I do not know what Wes ate last night but he needs to share that with Gerald too. This team has played 10 solid quarters of basketball if we play 4 more we got game 4.Lets worry about these next 4 quarters and focus.

    Tay C-

He completely changed the complexion of the game. It was his energy and defense that propelled Portland to pull away from the Mavs in the 4th.

TayC, he had 2 HUGE blocks which got the crowd really into it, that propelled the Blazers.  It's just something nice to see from an insurance policy.

I would maybe give him minutes to close a quarter (not the 4th), but I wouldn't count on him being huge.  He literally flew under the radar.  The Mavs know about him now, and all of them commented on him.  Give him some minutes if Camby needs a rest and same with LaMarcus, but no more than 8 unless he's seriously kicking some butt.

Portland wins this one convincingly is my theory.

D, you knew my answer before the question, early Thursday afternoon...and the reasoning behind it.:)

Having that shot blocking threat in the middle when Camby is down, enables the perimeter defenders to play tighter, without as much worry about collapsing, thus taking away any uncontested deep balls.  Wesley, Nic, GW, Dre...they can all play a little more physical out high, playing closer and taking chances.  Specifically, going OVER the screens and picks...as opposed to under.  Without CJ there, it would be LA playing out of position and in harms way of picking up fouls defending the rim, necessitating the perimeter defenders hedge.  Additionally, the discovery of Johnson and his ability to impact this series gives the Blazers six more fouls at that 5 position and allows Marcus to play very aggressive, without as much worry with foul trouble. Trust that Dallas has reviewed film and will be far better prepared for Johnson's presence in game 4.

Game four, like the others before it, will simply come down to who wants it more and who executes better in the fourth quarter.  Johnson's play insures Camby's availability for every minute of that fourth.  Without bench production however, Portland finds themselves wielding a knife in a gunfight and goes down 1-3 today.

    GO BLAZERS!

One of these players are going to have to step up and contribute big point-wise. Love the effort and energy from Rudy but his shot is no where to be found on this continent. Match the Mavs reserves sans Terry takes pressure off the main weapons.

Hands down one of the best sporting events i've ever been to, if not the best! I'm still stunned that actually happened...the Blazer fans were truly the 6th man this afternoon. See you all Thursday, hopefully to take the series and advance to the second round!

You can talk about what we did or didn't do, but at the end of the day we won this game on pure heart when I was watching the game something told me to keep watching and that something special is going to happened and even though we were down I felt that they were laying it out on the line and I couldn't turn away and I saw that guy Brandon kicking the door and letting the world know that he's back I'm just so happy for him he deserve every bit of it let go steal Game 5 Go Blazers.

I gotta say, I was at this game and I bought the cheapest tickets I could get (tan section) on blazers.com to go, and it was worth every penny.  Greatest blazer game i've been too, and I've been to tons. The energy was great, and it was the loudest sporting event I've every seen in person, and that's saying a lot (i've been to plenty of games)

Hell, I'd just take Wallace or Batum offensively.  Rudy's defensive presence was the catalyst for tonight's win.  Rudy shut down the playmakers for Dallas in the 4th and gave us a chance.  Roy was a virtuoso.  Fernandez was the unsung hero.  This game was the prettiest, ugliest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.  And I been around the block.  Figuratively.  I'm still quite young.  But metaphorically, I'm like 500 years old.  And this was impressive.  Just the last quarter, I mean.  The rest was so bad, I've already forgotten how bad it was.  Which, isn't right, because I'm referencing it.  I remember how bad it was.  But the fourth quarter was roundball eroticism.  Yes.  Yes it was.

it's true.Blazer fans are the most dedicated and the most high energy out there. The games have been sold out for something like 6 years straight, EVERY game! You can only picture how crazy a PLAYOFF game is! I imagine the only thing that can rival them are Celtics fans at the Garden.

I had to go to work at the end of the 3rd quarter I was recording the game because I knew I would not be able to watch it all. I almost stopped the recording but I saw Brandon bury that 3 at the end of the quarter and I said well i might as well watch it when I get home tonight. My wife calls me at work and says you need to finish watching the game when you get home.
