Joel Przybilla says his Trail Blazers career might have a second chapter.

The veteran center, who was traded Thursday to Charlotte, hinted toward a return to Portland, but says his immediate future is up in the air until he speaks with the Bobcats front office.
“I still think there might be a chance I can come back,’’ Przybilla said late Friday night at Portland International Airport, where he prepared to board a flight to Charlotte. “It may be next year, but I think there’s more. I don’t think it’s over just yet. I just have that hunch.’’

I have a hunch too Joel. I really, deep down inside, see Joel returning either this year or next year as a free agent. His heart is in Portland and he needs to retire a Blazer. I really hope both of our hunches are correct!

Well, they waived Marks.  Cunningham and Joel are both expiring contracts, and they got two picks in the draft.  Why would they want Joel except his contract?

Joel is going to ask for a buyout.  I'm sure his family and home are staying in Portland.  So, if he gets the buyout, he'll have 30 days until he can be a Blazer, which means he gets to be a Blazer this season as well I believe, meaning we'll have a second big man come playoff time.  That big man being Joel Pryzbilla.

I don't think Portland would leave LaMarcus, who's been averaging 40+ minutes, at the center position with Camby not being able to play many minutes at his age and his return not even here yet.  So, I'd be kind of surprised if Joel doesn't get the buyout, and well, you heard it from him, he's going to be a Blazer.  It's just up to Portland to resign him.

LOL can you imagine Joel walking in and saying buy out my contract...or I will retire? In Sean Marks case why would we trade him if they did not want him? Was it cap space for us?

@barnettfan...Herr is correct.  Marks' contract was needed to make the dollars match.

I believe Joel's chances of sporting the scarlet red, black and white again are actually pretty good.  Unfortunately, doubtful Dante will ever be able to return.  The NBA can be a funny business, can it not??  Though unlikely, if all three players sent to Charlotte were to again become available to Portland, wouldn't that mean that Cho was able to bring Wallace here for two picks?

Come Back Joel! It's only right that you retire a Blazer..
    Plus, I'd love to see

    STARTERS:
    PG-Miller
    SG-Matthews
    F-Wallace
    PF-L.A.
    C-Camby

    2ND UNIT:
    PG-Rudy/Patty
    SG-Roy
    SF-Batum
PF-(switch off between Wallace and LA) w/ Babbitt as backup
    C-Pryzbilla (with Oden recovering)

It would make a very strong and deep team.

Seems like Pryz may have more than just a hunch, i think Cho or somebody in the organization told him that he would more than likely be bought out, and when that happens that Portland will resign him after the 30 day period is over.  Just a feeling i got, and a dab of hope.  I'm bankin that we see him back in a Portland uniform before the start of the playoffs

Yeah, bring back the Vanilla Gorilla, it just doesn't seem right to see him in any other color than black, red and white!  We need him back for his "won't back down to anyone" attitude and toughness.  See you soon Pryz!

He'll be back.. Whether it be in a month or next season, I'm certain he'll be back. He has to come back. He has to end his career and retire as a Blazer.

i think when he said he wouldnt be traded he was confident, but then cho saw the only possiblity to get wallace was to use pryz, so yes was prolly hurt but since his contract was ending cho prolly reinsuranced him that he will do what ever it takes to resign him, if nto for the 30 day wait, next season, i think thats why he said hes not using his 2 roster spots, he might use one just for the time being or for 10 day contracts which fi you think abotu it is perfect two 10 day contracts means 20 days only ten days to presue anything else so who free oh yeah pryz lol cho might be a better gm then we all expected, KP didnt resign outlaw or blake so if cho can bring back pryz i think everyone will love cho

I like Pryzbillas effort, but I dont think he can help much this season since his knees are obviously still kind of messed up.  Still I guess I'd like to see him retire in Portland.

You know I hope Joel comes back. I'm kind of sad he had to leave. But we got a player who can guard Kobe and Durant in Gerald Wallace. Great trade!

Basically Joel is going to do what Zydrunas Ilgauskas did this last year with the Washington trade.

Ryan - I just read the same article on ESPN and was about to post it, but of course, saw your link. Yeah, not great news, but let's hope that maybe Joel can at least come back next year, as mentioned above, if MJ really says he wants him, that will be the key point I think, once his contract is up, when Joel maybe has more control of the situation.

If we get the option I say we try and resign Dante too! He was giving us awesome minutes and production. Especially lately. But maybe that all depends on if Pendergraph will be able and ready to play. Either way we all know we cant have to many big guys!

honestly i dont see why portland would bring joel back for anything other than a blazer player reunion.
He is 31, talks about retiring, he has lost his offensive game and his rebound numbers are slowly dropping after a career high average 2 seasons ago.

i mean why are people in love with this guy, am i missing something?

Hes practically been a Blazer for as long as he was a Buck.

I see what you are saying.
He's aging, yes. He's past his prime, yes. His offensive game is pretty gone, yes. But that's not really what the Blazers need. They need a solid backup guy who can come off the bench for 15-20 a night and play some defense and grab a few boards. Przybilla can do that. He did just that tonight with Charlotte against Orlando, and did the same with us against LA on Wednesday.
The Blazers are capped out and are going to be for quite a while. He's a guy who we could snag for a good price who could play for a small but quality amount of minutes. And it's looking like next year he's going to probably be feeling better and is going to be moving a little better with some added time and rest for his knee.
I don't think anybody is valuing him more than if we were able to pick up a guy like Cunningham or somebody else who is younger and can play more and move around easier. But he definitely has worth in this league.

Not nessecarily in love but more in the fact we need a center in the worst way. Lamarcus went into the locker for a quarter and the team went to hell last night.
Camby came back and had to start you could see the rust just dripping off of him. Joel could have at least spelled Camby and played while Lamarcus got a bit of rest. Besides the way we were playing last night Joel just might have been our top scorer. So Tayc I would rather have an aging center who knows how to fill a hole and knows the team than some D leaguer who might have a clue when we get booted out the first round.

From Bobcats’ Jordan defends trade, reassures Przybilla on Yahoo Sports:

    Joel says:
“They were honest with me and told me they wanted me here,” the 31-year-old Przybilla said. “That means a lot, especially coming from Michael Jordan. He looked me in the eye and told me this. I’ve never, to be honest, had a general manager tell me that.”
Doesn't sound like Jordan plans on releasing him before the end of the summer.

Joel also says regarding his knee:

“I probably won’t be 100 percent for another couple of years maybe,”

Sounds like he may fully recover just in time to retire.  I don't see what resigning Joel would bring the team other than another tall body.

I am a fan of new seasons and new possibilities.

okay i can kind of understand that point.
But why not just go after a Center who can score as well as play 15-20 mins while grabbing some boards, who is younger than 30?
or am i asking too much.

well it looks like this conversation is moot if they dont buy out his contract. But I would say that they are looking at Oden and Pendergraph returning next season and maybe cap space? But we definately need someone now. Batum is just going to get hammered out there when he has to face a real center for any length of time.

I wouldn't say that's asking too much. There are some guys out there who might be able to do that. But I mean, Murphy is going to sign with a contender and between Boston, Orlando, and Miami there are going to be plenty of teams out there that adding that one more big body to their lineup will maybe put them over the top in terms of contending. And I don't blame those guys for wanting to sign with a team like Orlando or Boston. So then for us it would be Joel or a guy like Early Barron or another D-League hero. I mean, honestly, I'd go with Joel. That's probably because of his history with Portland, but that does count for something in being familiar with the system and players.

But yeah, this is moot because Charlotte isn't getting rid of Joel.

Joel has been my favorite player for the past few years.  He belongs in Portland.  So many games I have seen him just pick the team up both on the court and off the court.  He has so much heart for the Blazers and Portland.  If it had not been for the injury last year, I don't think Joel would have been included in the trade.  Slap my face, but I would rather see Oden traded.  Seems a bad omen, like Sam Bowie... should have taken Michael Jordan, maybe we should have taken Durant.  I also wish we has Kevin Pritchard at the helm.  Our new GM does not impress me at all!       WandaRMB
