    2011-2012 Free Agents

I am not hitting the panic button but we always need to look to improve and seeing as how we stand to lose Dante, Joel, Mills, and Oden (Marks is there too but we wont resign him) at the end of the year who should we try to pursue?  Try to keep all 4?  Any position we need to strengthen?  (Obviously a good solid 4 and 5)

my wishlist for free agents and reasons behind the choice (Not necessarily in the order I think we should pursue just randomly organized)

1)Jonas Jerebko Restricted Free Agent (RFA)

    2)Rodney Stuckey (RFA)

    3)Louis Amundson Player Option (P)

    4) Aaron Brooks (RFA)

    5)Shelden Williams (FA)

    6) Glen Davis (FA)

    7) Nazr Mohammed (FA)

    8) Shane Battier (FA)

    9) Carl Landry (FA)

*Disclaimer: This is assuming the CBA is relatively the same as now so this is potentially impossible til the new CBA is announced.*

Detailed reasons why posted in my Blog I didn't want to muck up the post

Those are the free agents for the end of the year there are no good centers on the whole list except Perkins who is coming off an injury and Celtics wont want to give him up

My spologies Kim Marc Gasol will be a RFA so he is my #1 choice easily to go after we might have to give him around 5.5 a year but Memphis could match that easy

But like I said it's not that easy, we are not the only team after a real center with skills like Marc. if we could get him that would be awesome, but I doubt it.

Maybe Cho can try to trade Oden for Gasol, selling point..... he played with Conley :)
I know I got sick of Blazer fans trying to use that logic to get Conley here. Glad that  has stopped.

I have and will advocate bringing Marc here til he is old and ready to retire.  Even is he "isn't as good as his brother" to analysts he always seems to give Pau problems.  That would be a huge positive for us and idc what everybody thinks Marc can grow out a beard and be our Spanish Lumberjack

That's totally way out of context. When you say "everyone else is doing it" it means people going with the flow, giving in to peer pressure. That is not what I am saying at all. I am saying EVERY team wants a young 7' dominant center with skills and since we all know every team wants that why are you being so naive in thinking we can just call up a team and say "hand him over" and convince one of the very few teams who already have a talented 7 footer to give him up for ANY team, let alone for us and what we have to offer?!? And wouldn't you think in the same manner we would want someone like Gasol for the rest of his young career, that the Memphis Grizz are thinking the exact same thing? They won't just trade him because we need a center. That is not very realistic and if it does ever happen it wouldn't be overnight. That's like saying "Why didn't the Blazers trade someone for Dwight Howard, or Shaq when he was young, or Hakeem Olajowon, or Patrick Ewing, or whoever in their primes. It is most likely not going to happen.

And I'd appreciate it if you'd quit condescendingly comparing me to your kids.

I agree with LTG, and if that is the best options, no options would be better. Making a deal just to make a deal is not good for business. And Gasol is the only thing that would be a great acquisition but realistically the Grizz will match any offer.

Oden hasnt done anything but bankrupt this team, why would you want to resign him, "history repeats itself"......
Rodney Stucy however is one of the most inefficient players with a basketball, there was a project conducted with him and the detroit pistons, and actually when rodney stuckey had possession of the ball, the Pistons acually lost points.
Really like if he were to come on this team i dont think i could watch Blazer games.
Aaron Brooks could be part of that missing link, Blazers need a Center or a PG and if they cant get some dominant players in those position compromise with really good ones for each.

Oden and Dante I believe are both RESTRICTED Free Agents.  Not sure about what that means, but I think it means we get to offer first before anyone else does, or we get to choose to sign him.  I think we need to extend Oden.  He may not be able to play an 82 game season, but I'd rather him play at least some.  He had a great "rookie" year, in which he played 61 games + playoff games.  He's growing, even when injured.  I think he'll play great this season

Being an rfa meens that if the player gets an offer from another team and decides to take it, the Blazers still have the ability to match the deal up to seven days after it is signed, and if the Blazers match the deal they get to keep the player.

Perhaps you need to look a little further abroad for another GASOL type centre instead of fighting with another 27 teams for the same player, which means giving up more than he is worth. There are plenty of GASOL type centre's playing Euro League that are un contracted to an NBA team that could be picked up for small dollars and added to your current roster without sending out players/draft picks in return - which would happen in a trade to another NBA listed player.
Not every Euroleague center will transition across to the NBA style game but hey it worked out for Marc and Paul and many other solid 'big' backup type centers.

I'd throw my own pick into the ring as an example with Aleks Maric 6'11' 275 pounds played College at the University of Nebraska. He moved over to the Euroleague and during his first season in Partizan, Marić went from the status of a relatively unknown basketball player to one of Euroleague star. He was named to the 2009-10 All-Euroleague First Team. In the summer of 2010, he was signed by Greek giants. Panathinaikos BC.

He is only 26 years old so there is plenty of time to develop his game and he has a big NBA space filling frame with GASOL type finesse. He is Australian and was considered as a contender to knock Andrew Bogut off as the starting center for the national team, and Bogut is a solid NBA center.
My point is if I can name one potential big man not on an NBA list then so can others - you just have to look outside the square instead of fighting over the same old same old, you might just uncover another GASOL for peanuts.

Battier can play the 4 spot too, PF. But i agree we do not need to shoot for another SF.
We need either the PF who plays C or the C who can go to PF.
And honestly it doesnt need to be a guy who scores, i dont care if he is 8 ft tall and cant dunk.
If he can rebound, grab boards till the sun goes down, that is what would help us.
Then again a 7 footer with a 15 - 20 ft jumper is just unbelievable.

I think we need some consistent role players who can bring energy off the bench, space the floor, and hit the 3 ball, like Jared Dudley or CHANNING FRYE for example. We're really lacking in there. Rudy has returned to his former-self, inconsistent, bad selection of shots, not happy with him. Our bench is nothing compared to what it was last year.

I like Aaron Brooks, he lived down the street from my cousins aunt, I used to play against him back in the day, he could never measure up though. lol

And we need some players who WANT TO WIN. Im sorry, but Roy and alot of the Blazers act like it.

We definitly need a point guard in my opinion.  Andre is great but a young guy is a necessity to have.  Maybe we need to look in an upcoming draft for a young point guard with star potential?  Andre has a couple of years left and it would be cool to see someone under his wing with a huge career.  Armon could prove me wrong, but I have a feeling we need to give up some goods and find a reliable facilitator.  We don't need another scoring option.  We need a guy who has a good 3 point shot and can space the floor so that we can drive it in like we used to.  What ever happened to Steve...

And I'd appreciate it if you'd quit condescendingly comparing me to your kids.
it makes him feel unintelligent. especially when he USES RUN ON SENTENCES THAT STING THE EYES!
Why do you have to follow me around non stop? You are so infatuated you need to read all my posts and scour them for grammar mistakes because I picked yours apart in the past. You always try to correct me on things I already corrected you for. That is pretty pathetic. Just quit talking to me. The mods have asked that I stop arguing with you so I stopped talking to you and yet all you do is follow me around like a dumb animal. In order for things to be easier I asked them that you quit talking to me but since this is not happening I am asking you directly to quit talking to me because I am sure no one wants to read your smart ass remarks and my smart ass replies. Stop being a pest and a troll! Grow up, be a man and shut up.

TomL, I will tell you , the same thing I tell my daughter when I hear "everybody is doing it " .....
I don't care what everyone else is doing.

My concern is the Blazers, and everyone else does too, only means Cho needs to step up his game.

All I'm saying is there are only a handful of talented 7 footers who aren't injury prone that may or may not be available, on top of every other team wanting one who doesn't have one and those that do not wanting to part with them. I'm sure every team is looking at every league in the world too.

@Fallen_Deity...Gasol may be more available than you think.  Keep an eye on what Memphis does with Randolph

I have been keeping an eye on it thats why I believe there is a chance but most people don't see anything but stats and don't understand team workings

You believe there is a chance to get Gasol? What team workings do we not understand?
I think it would be even harder after the blunder they did in giving the Lakers another Gasol, so I think they are keeping this one except for an amazing blockbuster deal.
And also if BDawg is suggesting they are going to move Randolph, that would seem to make Marc even more important to them.

That remark wasn't  directed at you Tom, I have had enough conversations with you to know your very knowledgeable about team aspects.  I was talking about the people that don't understand that they need to make a choice between Z-bo and Gasol.  If they move Z then obviously they will offer Marc a larger contract and thats why its only a chance it could happen and not probable

It's like they dont believe they can win. They give up too quick.
    WE NEED SOME KILLAS!!!

Jared Dudley and Channing Frye are horrible examples of consistant 3pt shooters.
first off we already had frye on this team, it look a little foolish if we went back after him because he devloped a medicore 3pt shot.
And if Rudy is returning to his former self let him do that, because it was the "former" Rudy who set the Rookie Record for most 3's, at like 178.

Brooks is often talked about and would be a totally great asset for this team, but there is no incentive for Houston to trade, because if they were to ask for someone like Batum, well portland clenches up their rear end and walks away.

This organization needs to be willing to sacrifice one of its "godsend" players in order to get a good one.

Infatuation whoa, hey, stealing my words.
creative. please try  to make some sense,
    OHHHHH NOOOO.

Oh I didn't think you were, but I was wondering if you heard something I haven't. I don't actually keep tabs on the Grizz. I don't know what's going on between ZBo and GBo.
