    From Chris Broussard-
With the Cleveland Cavaliers looking to move on from the LeBron James Era, clubs are calling about Anderson Varejao, an energetic role player who would help any contender. Portland has interest, and San Antonio, with ex-Cavs GM Danny Ferry now in its front office, is also a team to keep an eye on. After contending for titles the past few seasons, Varejao wouldn't mind being dealt to an elite club either, according to sources. So stay tuned.
Where there's smoke there's fire? In my opinion, it all depends on Cleveland's asking price. If we can offer up some expiring contracts, maybe a first round pick..who knows? I'd love to have him on our team and boy we could have used his rebounding last night.

We have an ever dwindling stock of healthy "expendables".  My concern would be giving up necessary assets for the acquisition of a long term fix at the point.  How is Cho going to go about picking up a big of this caliber, without sacrificing plans to move on a point guard of similar value?  A package, multi-team deal perhaps?  Where there is smoke...it may be a smokeSCREEN :)  I don't believe whatever it is that Cho decides to do will become public, until the move is actually made.  I admire and respect that.

While he is goofy looking and does flop, I'd rather he flop for us.  :)  No trading Batum, AJ, Dre, Lamarcus or god who else is not part of this trade can we trade with?  Are we talking about sending them Rudy?  I hope not.  He's playing very well for us and we needed him last night.  Though he will walk on us in the end, he is honoring his contract with us very professionally this season.  So who do we trade?

Okay, to everybody saying 'we don't need him', in a sense you are right. We have Camby and Joel coming back and Oden to return in the future.

However, I think this would be a good asset AS LONG AS WE DO NOT TRADE: Roy, Batum, Miller, Camby, AJ and Aldridge. I could part with Cunningham, rudy, joel, oden in exchange for a flop-a-jao.

Even by having 3 skilled centers (Oden, Camby and Flop-a-joa), it would give our returning injured big man a very limited amount of minutes JUST to be sure he does not get injured again.

I like the idea but what would I be willing to trade? Not anything big, but a lot of trash. No offense Blazers. Besides, Cleveland could sure benefit from inhaling 3 new players for the exchange of one.

A little pet peeve I have on here. Can we please stop referring to players as "flop-a-jao",etc. Just call them by there name please.

He isn't a bad player and would be a great asset to have on our team. He's young, under contract for a while, and doesn't care about starting or coming off of the bench.

Flop-a-joa is one of my favorite centers (Joakim Noah being dead last). Have you seen his remix on Youtube of ALL of his flops? Something like 120 games of PURE FLOPPAGE. It is pretty epic.

You have to wonder that maybe Rudy is one of those possible pieces in acquiring him and that his 'back' troubles were to just keep him healthy.  Maybe Cleveland is asking a little too much to test the waters and seeing what else they can get from San Antonio.  I wouldn't mind Rudy with a second round pick, or luke babbitt.  Wouldn't give up Rudy and a first rounder though

I hope we don't sign him. I think we are set up to do a nice trade right now, and if we can just get someone to fill in from like the D league or anything just for a month that would be better. I think we would have to give away too much to have Varejao, plus I hate the way he doesn't really play any d.

I'm not too sure I'd want to make a trade for Varejao unless it was possibly a future first round pick & some cash, which Cleveland would likely turn down in a second. I do believe he is a hard worker on the boards (which we sure could use these days) and it sure wouldn't hurt to add his playoff and international experience to our roster (a reason I liked Oberto). With that he does flop quite often which is annoying to watch and not too sure what Nate would think about that or some of the dirty fouls he comits. Also pretty sure Cleveland would want Rudy and more which in my opinion just wouldn't be the best fit for our team. I like the chemistry that's growing within the players we have now. And to those of you who are quick to trade D.C. for any player so far that has been mentioned are ridiculous! So far he has been a pretty consistent player and recently has done even better on the court. He just now started to get quality minutes, he's only a sophomore and he's a hard worker. Let's give him a little more respect and stop throwing him or even Joel for that matter into the trade basket every flippin' rumor we here about. GO BLAZERS!!!

Why do you feel we shouldn't put Joel in the 'trade basket'?

He's 31 years old and just injured himself... He maybe only has 3 or 4 more quality years. I think trading Joel would be a best option for us. Besides, if he gets injured again, he's done.

D.C is a great player. I don't see why not wanting to trade him would be any good for us. It is not like D.C has plays getting ran for him (not very many at least). Most of his points are off broken plays or plays in which Miller finds a gap in the Def.

The more I think about it, the more I like Joel + D.C for Flopperson Flop-a-joa (lol)

Perhaps I understand your point. Yet as a Blazer fan it just seems harder to trade Pryz, or D.C. simply because of their determination and effort on and off the court. Pryz's return is going to be epic and I would miss having him defend our players when needed. He's the Manilla Gorilla! And sure D.C. doesn't get many plays drawn up for him, but still finds a way to make his presence known on the court which is admirable. Again I value Varajeo's experience and would like to see him on our team, just as a fan it would be hard to part with some of the guys Cleveland is likely asking for in return. Guess it's all part of the game/business though. However maybe this is all just irrelevant since we are supposedly signing big man Sean Marks. GO BLAZERS!!!

If we could get him we should. He is good at what he does and what he does well we could use. Our middle needs a big body. And if he flops he uses it as a technique to get fouls for his team and I don't hate that tool or it's outcome. Look at fisher he has had a pretty good run using the "flop." Our moral selves want to have our people play straight up, but I suspect If he flopped for us a couple of times and we got points and/or the ball, we as fans would cheer for our flopper. I don't think he is defined by this though, I think he is a really decent 4/5 and we need that right now. What would it take to get him I have no idea, but I still think he would be wanted on this squad not just for the short term, but maybe for a couple of years; since the jury is still out on what Oden is going to do this season. Remember Oden didn't get an extension and this might mean the position could be up for grabs to a player like V.

The Blazers need to look at a big man long term.
Imo, LA/Roy/Camby and Miller are playing to many minutes to play at this pace in to the playoffs successfully.  Tired legs = weaker D, and lower shot percentage.

I don't care how Varajeo looks, or what he's called. He is a baller.
It's the name on the front , not the name on the back. That's why the new guy 6 foul, practice guy was signed. Anything else they bring is bonus, until we see Pryz.

I dont really like varejao, but then again I'm not the biggest Pryzbilla fan either so if all we had to give up was him and a draft pick or someone we dont need like babbit than I would definately pull the trigger on this deal.  Also we are kind of in need of a backup pf (I see cunningham as more of a small forward) so Varejao would fill that spot nicely when Oden returns.

All i have to say about Verajao, is if he were on this team, the blazer would have such an easier time scoring on offense. The team currently seems like they have to fight for every basket, the offense it to predictable and "still".
Anyone who watched Cleveland, knows this. Verajao is a GREAT pick and roll guy. He can score down low. He is big and healthy, which right there makes him more valuable than Oden and Joel, who are still sitting, just....sitting. He's got that Fro, which is annoying, distracting, and a perfect weapon that is unintentionally used. The Blazers can sit their bigs the rest of the season, put em down on two knees and have them say 2 "our fathers" and 1 "hail mary" or they can sign someone who can help this offense score with ease.

Sidenote. I really dont understand this

We have Pryz coming back in a couple weeks... WHY WOULD WE TRADE OR SIGN THIS GUY WITH A 5 YEAR CONTRACT FOR A COUPLE WEEKS?? That makes no sense, regardless of his weak D and flopping. Then we have Oden coming back. It seems Cho at least understands this and signed Mark.

Id love to have Varejao after seeing our team get outhustled on boards esspecially against OKC  he hustles and gets big boards blocks shot and flop but if someone flop and the Blazers get a turnover i can ignore the flopitude and maybe even that hair of his.  We need a beast on the board.  A less costly high volume rebounder would be reggie evans from toronto he has a very natural nose/eye for the ball.  If we can get Varejao i believe we should attempt to pull daniel gibson to help out Roy and Aldrige we need a point who can be on the court and keep the defenses honest I know we have Rudy and Batum but too maximize an offense with Roy we need players who can stretch the floor.  Whether or not he says it Steve Blake was one of the better off  pieces he ever had because he could make defenses pay for loading up on him.

Yes I knew you were going to say that, that is exactly why I only said Pryz at first!! He will be back in a couple weeks, so why sign Varejao who has a multi year contract? That was my point. But you skipped that part of my reasoning and went directly to Oden again. You sound like a broken record. We all know you dont like Oden. We all want a center to be healthy but complaining about it every day is not going to make him get healthy sooner. We also are not going to get anything good for him right now anyway so we might as well hold on to him and hope he stays healthy. We have Camby and Pryz in a few weeks. Injuries are a part of every sport. It is very frustrating but we have to deal with it, and we can't say this or that is directly responsible. It just happens! Yes it happens to us a LOT! But I find it ridiculous to harp on someone continuously for getting injured as if he does it on purpose, and I find it equally ridiculous to think our management can just push a button and voila!! we just traded for another dominant center just like that. There isn't some magical store where you can just buy a great big man. We are not going to get any one even close to Greg's ability, and quite frankly anyone we could get would not be worth it if in fact Greg stays kinda healthy, So yes we are gambling, but that could either have a huge payoff or it could flop, as opposed to getting someone else who would have a mediocre payoff or flop.

Not at all. And Varejao's flopping and bad defense aside, I think it makes no sense to have a quick fix for 2 or 3 weeks with a guy that has a multi year contract and is ok at rebounding. And who would we have to give up? I think in the long run it will greatly hinder our options for making productive deals. All we have to do is wait a couple of weeks!! That's all!
